Bridesmaids and nipple covers

Giraffe317 · 26/03/2024 19:45

I have 3 bridesmaids, all with the same ‘multiway’ dress. They look lovely but the fabric is so thin and clingy that without using the bandeau that comes with the dresses we have 6 nipples on show through the fabric. They understandably would rather not wear the bandeau if possible as it makes them look a bit frumpy/matronly and they’re all early 20’s with lovely figures. We’ve tried some of the tiny nipple covers but the only problem is now that you can’t see the nipples you can see the nipple covers!
Is boob tape an option to just tape the nipples down?! Or do we need some other type of nipple covers? Hit me up with your recommendations or ideas ladies please?

How the fuck is it empowering showing off your nipples?!

And it's a wedding. Really not appropriate.

Because these days making other people feel uncomfortable is a form of empowerment.

Oh my god, get them different dresses, no-one wants their nips on show all day!

This! I couldn't even imagine asking my bridesmaids to wear something like this. So inappropriate. I can't believe they've agreed

Can you read?

I said they should be covered for a wedding.

Really?
Why would you want to do that?

I don't like making people feel uncomfortable - whether is is by not wearing underwear or any by other method.

If I don't wear a bra it is because I don't want to, not to play silly mind games.

Winterstormm · 27/03/2024 11:10

Get a different dress so they can wear a strapless bra. It's more difficult to get bras for open back dresses. I'm in my 20s too and I don't think it's 'frumpy' to wear a bra. I'd rather wear a bra than have my nips on show.

Whatifthehokeycokey · 27/03/2024 11:21

Are you having dancing in the evening? I wouldn't want to be jiggling around without a bra. I did it once at a wedding with a ceildh. Wouldn't recommend.

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 27/03/2024 11:29

Is there any of the multiway styles that allow for, say, a plunge bar underneath? If so, I'd stitch the dress to an actual bra.

StrawberryJellyBelly · 27/03/2024 11:34

Op, my daughter had a version of that dress for her 4 bridesmaids of different ages and no ones nipples were on show. In fact I still can’t work out what you mean about the bandeau despite knowing how how’s those dresses work.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/03/2024 11:35

Can you have extra layer of fabric sewn in?

My daughter used this style of dress and each bridesmaid styled it the way they wanted to. They looked lovely, were able to wear bras and no ones nipples were on display either.

StrawberryJellyBelly · 27/03/2024 11:43

Op, the ones we used didn’t come with a bandeau and I’m wondering if yours have come with one because the fabric used for yours is perhaps thinner to allow for the lower price of the dress.

the ones we used came from Canada and were about 140 pounds each

RampantIvy · 27/03/2024 11:47

As an aside, what cover up options are there if it is cold?
A backless dress on a cold day is utterly miserable.

canyouletthedogoutplease · 27/03/2024 12:00

They'll need to think about their underwear in general beause those images show you can see anything that's under those dresses, the fabric is VPL central.

The style needs a heavier weight fabric, I think originally these type of dresses were done about fifteen years ago by a company called Two Birds or something similar based in London, but I've just looked again and it looks like it's gone down the pan in the meantime and is now based in the USA. There's one called Willow and Pearl that looks slightly better quality, but even they sell a bandeau, it's there for a reason I'd guess.

If they're going to use adhesive stuff get them to do a trial beforehand, not sure what you can stick on your bum cheeks though!

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 27/03/2024 12:02

Good point about the bum cheeks. I'm fat but firm and some people are slender but very wobbly. (I'd happy swap to look great in jeans.)

AlohaOptima · 27/03/2024 12:06

Perky pears are fantastic but I think a seamstress could easily and cheaply add cups. Perky pears can be tricky to get the hang of so have spares.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 27/03/2024 12:08

I don't understand why you're saying that the crossover straps at the back of the dress mean no bra with a back can be worn? Literally any multiway bra, even a cheap one from Primark, can have straps crossed at the back. It could not be easier, just unhook the removable shoulder straps from the back strap of the bra and cross them over.

We found that there was no easy way to hide the back of a bra in these dresses, the straps weren't an issue as much. We ordered them and had a play around with tying them different ways, in the end my bridesmaids said they'd happily go braless but didn't like other aspects of the cheap thin fabric so we changed dresses.

Katiesaidthat · 27/03/2024 12:27

Get dresses where half your body isn´t on show and you can wear appropriate underwear.

Unless all of your bridesmaids are built like models, and I mean tall and very thin, with no jiggle whatsoever, those dresses are going to look cheap and feel uncomfortable. They will show everything, not stay in place, and requjre some serious smoothing underwear.

Choose a different, properly structured dress where your 'maids can wear decent underwear is my advice.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 27/03/2024 12:39

When I had a bridesmaid's dress which had a sort of angel sleeve and then low cut bust area I wasn't sure what to do.

The other bridesmaids were younger and smaller in the bust than me so it wasn't so much of an issue but was a 28F then and had to get a Freya Deco nude strapless bra which more or less solved the issue (I was a 10-12 dress size) but there's no way other bras could've worked and tit tape would've been uncomfortable.

I'd get a proper dress and pay a bit more so it actually fits, first one is green, the rest are just sample colours:
