Bridesmaids and nipple covers

I have 3 bridesmaids, all with the same ‘multiway’ dress. They look lovely but the fabric is so thin and clingy that without using the bandeau that comes with the dresses we have 6 nipples on show through the fabric. They understandably would rather not wear the bandeau if possible as it makes them look a bit frumpy/matronly and they’re all early 20’s with lovely figures. We’ve tried some of the tiny nipple covers but the only problem is now that you can’t see the nipples you can see the nipple covers!
Is boob tape an option to just tape the nipples down?! Or do we need some other type of nipple covers? Hit me up with your recommendations or ideas ladies please?

I wouldn't expect the bride to organise the BM's underwear. I would also expect nearly all BMs to wear some sort of bra, either for support or to smooth the look (ie no nipples).
Most clothes need something underneath so it's not really that this fabric is thin or cheap or whatever. There are so many different options to choose, whether it be a multiway bra, strapless, nipple cover or sewn in cups.
I guess the bride would offer to pay for sewn in cups since that's an alteration to the dress, otherwise BMs pay for their underwear surely.

I love the dress and I really like how so many brides choose multiwear dresses these days so that all BMs can choose a style they like and feel comfortable in.

I also think the bandeau looks fine.

Unless all of your bridesmaids are built like models, and I mean tall and very thin, with no jiggle whatsoever, those dresses are going to look cheap and feel uncomfortable. They will show everything, not stay in place, and requjre some serious smoothing underwear.

Choose a different, properly structured dress where your 'maids can wear decent underwear is my advice.

Yes, amen to this. It's also handy for if they'd like to wear this again. I've had 3 bridesmaids dresses (first is from when I was 24 so doesn't really count!) and the ones I can wear again are the best.

MushMonster · 27/03/2024 12:45

Use the fabric in the bandau to line the parts of the dress that goes from the waste to the shoulder.
You should not be able to see any nipple or nipple cover over that and it will not take away anything from the dress.
You may actually need more material.
Any seamstress can do that.

Is there any of the multiway styles that allow for, say, a plunge bar underneath? If so, I'd stitch the dress to an actual bra.

Yes. We used multi way dressed precisely because the bridesmaids were very different builds and the idea is that you can choose a style that you feel comfortable in. They wore different styles. It also removes the notion of a dress “fitting properly” as they’re one size.

OP seems set on wearing them in a particular way which may not suit the bandeau but I can promise you there are ways to wear that dress involving the bandeau that are gorgeous

I’d expect the bride to consider / organise / pay for underwear if she chose a dress that meant the bridesmaids had to buy a type they don’t already own and wouldn’t otherwise choose to wear.

mitogoshi · 27/03/2024 13:03

Unless they are all a cups and teens they will need support - stick on bras are an option for smaller sizes, anybody larger will need to configure it to wear a bra. The bandeau looks fine

Could you try adding a layer of opaque fabric in the bust section?

This ...buy another dress & cut the fabric up to be sewn into the boob area underneath each of the dresses

A relatively easy job for a seamstress & you can always 'test' how it would look first with double sided sticky tape ect.

martinisforeveryone · 27/03/2024 13:27

I think the multiple style options of the dress is fab, but I’d be concerned that the quality of this particular fabric, even if you add another layer, or try various options of tape, cups or nipple covers, it’s going to add significantly to the cost in the end, and not really give the desired result.

Obviously the advertising says they're ‘no show’ but that’s adverts for you and the reality’s proven different.

Are they bang on budget OP, or can you return them?

G/GG cup here. No way would I be able to wear that dress.

May I ask why? Do none of the 'infinite' styles work?

Bigcat25 · 27/03/2024 14:35

Bristol's Six brand nipple covers will do the job perfectly. You won't see any outline. They come in adhesive or non but the non adhesive will stay on just fine.

CactusMactus · 27/03/2024 14:37

Also, if it's a church wedding... churches get cold.

BroughttoyoubyBerocca · 27/03/2024 14:43

if I was wearing that I would totally be using the Bandeau, looks lovely.

This is a link to the dress https://www.infinitydress.com/en-gb/products/dark-green-multiway-infinity-dress
as you can see from the photos the bandeau isn’t mandatory and we’re looking at having a cross-back which would mean any sort of bra with a ‘back’ isn’t possible

My partner's daughter had four adult bridesmaids wearing this dress. Yes you could see the nipple covers! I would have been very unhappy indeed about being asked to wear this dress with no kind of nip-preventative measure (mind you mine would have taken someone's eye out 🙄)

I also went to a wedding a few years ago where the bride wore a dress like this. She wore a stick on bra. It worked much better.

That would be the case if the bride hadn't bought cheap, see through dresses.

Elly46 · 31/03/2024 07:17

You can get larger nipple covers that stick over most of the breast or slightly padded strapless bras?

QuizNight · 31/03/2024 09:06

wecantbefriends · 27/03/2024 10:08

Not necessarily, I'm a 30D and never wear a bra, too restricting I hate them!

But I know I'll be a minority.

I quite like having my nips on show, it's quite empowering tbh. Everyone's so scared of showing a nip these days.

I would cover for a wedding though, absolutely.

OP, try a backless bra or stick on chicken fillets. They worked a treat for my bridesmaids (similar type fabric dress) I got my bridesmaids ones from Shein and they worked well and stuck for the whole day and night.

I’m a 30E but I never consider those ‘unless you’re bigger than a B/C’ posts to apply to me. The 30 part of it makes our cup size seem much larger than our breasts actually are. Most shops don’t even sell 30 as the majority of people have a larger band size than that.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 31/03/2024 09:06

@Giraffe317 primark actually have strapless backless bras which are flesh coloured and i think they work by sticking to you. not sure. but full cup.

I'm the same size. I need a proper bra for support. A strapless or stick on thing doesn't offer the same level of support as a proper bra with straps. I'd be uncomfortable with them flopping around all day and it looks more flattering when they are pulled up rather than loose.

MiniAusOttie · 31/03/2024 09:23

A seamstress could sew some cups in, my bridesmaids wore multiway dresses but they had a good structure underneath

Yes my sister had these dresses for her bridesmaids, but on the ones she got (Dainty Yard off Etsy) the skirts were all double lined and there were no VPL issues. All five of us bridesmaids were left to pick what style we wanted and we all went with the bandeau- that’s the main attraction of this style imho, you get a cohesive look but everyone can pick something they feel comfortable in. On the day one of the bandeaus went missing and her saintly SIL took the hit and went braless. You can really tell from a lot of the photos, not because of nips but because her boobs just weren’t supported like the rest of us. The material is so stretchy there’s no support there whatsoever. And yes, the ‘rope’ of material isn’t that comfortable to sit against but sure you’re not usually sitting that much.

If you really want everyone to go with one style of backless dress just buy backless dresses which are made with that in mind, with a degree of support and thicker material.

Buffypaws · 31/03/2024 09:32

I had to wear that awful dress or something very similar as a bridesmaid twice in three months. Whatever I did looked awful but having massive boobs I had a strapless bra on so nipples weren’t the issue. It’s just a terrible dress. Everyone was like oh it’s fine for everyone because you can wear it different ways. Bollocks.

bradpittsbathwater · 31/03/2024 09:42

It looks so flimsy and clingy. It Doesn't matter what type of figure you have, I'd have felt so uncomfortable with my tits wobbling about in that in my 20s. Exposed back and nipples shining though isn't exactly appropriate for a wedding. Strapless bras aren't exactly comfortable with much support.

Topee · 31/03/2024 09:49

The dress will loosen over the course of the day, you really don’t feel very safe in them. I took mine off after the meal so I could enjoy the reception.

WhatsWorkLifeBalance · 31/03/2024 09:50

I bought a stick on bra for mine for this reason from Next. Hope this helps x
