Bridesmaids and nipple covers

I have 3 bridesmaids, all with the same ‘multiway’ dress. They look lovely but the fabric is so thin and clingy that without using the bandeau that comes with the dresses we have 6 nipples on show through the fabric. They understandably would rather not wear the bandeau if possible as it makes them look a bit frumpy/matronly and they’re all early 20’s with lovely figures. We’ve tried some of the tiny nipple covers but the only problem is now that you can’t see the nipples you can see the nipple covers!
Is boob tape an option to just tape the nipples down?! Or do we need some other type of nipple covers? Hit me up with your recommendations or ideas ladies please?

I used to use sellotape, it worked fine 😁

Wasn’t it painful getting the tape off afterwards?

PennyPugwash · 26/03/2024 23:28

Are the covers you've tried the silicone ones? They're pretty seamless?

Meadowbird · 27/03/2024 07:00

Presumably they have to be thin fabric to do the twisting of the straps though? It’s a clever idea but not very flattering from the back.

How much nipple are we talking about. Can you actually see the nipple through the fabric or are you just bothered by the general shape of the nipple? If it’s just the shape, ignore it. We used to not care. I don’t know why women started worrying about this.

it was always a thing -

Hopefully the tape will work OP, but if not you could try stick on bras, or failing that ask a seamstress if she could add a lining… or if not get a different (better quality) dress. It’s the lack of lining / thin material that’s the problem

However, if they are bigger than a B cup - or a naturally perky C - they are going to need bras. There’s a reason the photo of the bridal party all gave their arms up, and in couple of cases it still looks pretty dire.

What's the big deal about having an exposed back? Lots of skin on show isn't very nice especially for a formal occasion.

Popcorn640 · 27/03/2024 07:22

Slight digression...but aren't dresses like this really uncomfortable to sit down in?? That thick "rope" of twisted ties on the behind shot looks like it would be a nightmare to try and get comfy behind you!

Not a problem I'm ever going to have, as at a FF cup a bra-less dress wouldn't get a look in 😂

soupfiend · 27/03/2024 07:32

I wouldnt be able to wear such a dress because I have to have a bra on, unless you really want the pictures ruined.

Its quite an imposition to ask people to wear outfits that are so exposing like this, you're lucky they are all comfortable with them or have the backs and breasts that can manage a dress like this.

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 27/03/2024 07:35

The dresses are lovely! But yes, unless you have small boobs the nip situation isn’t the only concern.

shearwater2 · 27/03/2024 07:46

I.would just get different dresses. The problem with multiway dresses is they are neither fish nor fowl and aren't cut properly to allow you to wear a bra or something underneath, and can end up tricky to wear for all.

You'd be better with something like this which is actually made to be a certain style.

The fabric does look very clingy - if you look at the woman next to the bride (with red hair) in the picture, you can see the line of her underwear. She's an attractive woman but that dress does nothing for her.
I would agree with @shearwater2 - get different dresses.

I'm still wearing it 10 years on 😂

NameChangedAgainn · 27/03/2024 09:25

A seamstress can add thicker fabric behind just the bust part of the dress.
We considered multiway dresses for our wedding but the cheap thin fabric put my bridesmaids off, not because of their nipples showing but because it hid nothing at all and they were self conscious about VPL and their belly button piercings showing etc. Before we decided to change dresses, the seamstress had said she could line them for us and it wasn't a huge job.

AutumnCrow · 26/03/2024 20:33

I think that's a bit cheeky of the retailer tbh. In the group photo on the link, the woman on the left is sans bandeau and you can't see any nipples - in fact the image makes the fabric seem thicker than it obviously is. Quite misleading really.

My granny from Glasgow would have brought them a lovely pac-a-mac.

They also claim to not be seen through compared to cheaper brands.

pimplebum · 27/03/2024 09:43

Bra cups?

Formular · 27/03/2024 09:47

I think you need to take it to someone and get it lined, possibly adding cups.

Or if you can return them I'd do that and find something better.

BakeOffRewatch · 27/03/2024 09:50

Silicone nipple covers, loads of places sell them.

Or buy sew in cups, ask the bridesmaids to decide how they’ll wear the dress, then take to a seamstress to add them in invisibly. This is a link to a John Lewis pair, but you can buy different ones in different colours when haberdashery and sewing websites. https://www.johnlewis.com/prym-bust-forms-2-pack-white/p301940

Are they not going to be wearing bras of any kind? If not I can see the issue as the material is so thin and clingy looking, I'm not surprised you're having this problem.

I also agree with the poster pointing out that they all have their arms up in the image on the website - it's because it's not very flattering dress for anyone with boobs.

I can see why you don't like the bandeau, but I think you either need to get backless bras or perhaps take the dresses to a seamstress to get some support/ thicker fabric sewn in especially if any of your friends are larger than a C cup.

Stichintime · 27/03/2024 10:01

Considering the price of the dress I wouldn't pay for any alterations, it could end up costing more than the orginal dresses! The dress is not fit for wearing as you want, so return if you can and buy something everyone can wear with ease.

wecantbefriends · 27/03/2024 10:08

Aquamarine1029 · 26/03/2024 20:24

Unless all of your bridesmaids are no larger than a B cup, they are going to need far more support than that dress can offer.

Not necessarily, I'm a 30D and never wear a bra, too restricting I hate them!

But I know I'll be a minority.

I quite like having my nips on show, it's quite empowering tbh. Everyone's so scared of showing a nip these days.

I would cover for a wedding though, absolutely.

OP, try a backless bra or stick on chicken fillets. They worked a treat for my bridesmaids (similar type fabric dress) I got my bridesmaids ones from Shein and they worked well and stuck for the whole day and night.

The 1920s called..

BIWI · 27/03/2024 10:42

How the fuck is it empowering showing off your nipples?!

And it's a wedding. Really not appropriate.

Mrsjayy · 27/03/2024 10:45

Giraffe317 · 26/03/2024 19:56

It does but it’s totally optional. We all (mums included) feel that the bandeaus make the girls look a lot older than they are and slightly matronly. They don’t feel as good wearing the bandeau and I want them to feel comfortable, we’ll go with it if we have to but it’s a last resort really

They are modesty covers though that's why they come with the dresses and how can they look "matronly" didn't they try the dresses on before you bought them.
