Bridesmaids and nipple covers

I have 3 bridesmaids, all with the same ‘multiway’ dress. They look lovely but the fabric is so thin and clingy that without using the bandeau that comes with the dresses we have 6 nipples on show through the fabric. They understandably would rather not wear the bandeau if possible as it makes them look a bit frumpy/matronly and they’re all early 20’s with lovely figures. We’ve tried some of the tiny nipple covers but the only problem is now that you can’t see the nipples you can see the nipple covers!
Is boob tape an option to just tape the nipples down?! Or do we need some other type of nipple covers? Hit me up with your recommendations or ideas ladies please?

It does but it’s totally optional. We all (mums included) feel that the bandeaus make the girls look a lot older than they are and slightly matronly. They don’t feel as good wearing the bandeau and I want them to feel comfortable, we’ll go with it if we have to but it’s a last resort really

What do you mean by matronly though sorry? Can you describe?

You might have to go for a different dress then I think. They will have put the bandeau with it for this reason

Unless all of your bridesmaids are no larger than a B cup, they are going to need far more support than that dress can offer.

lunar1 · 26/03/2024 20:29

I would send them back, it's going to be a long day for your bridesmaids and their comfort has to be a priority.

Geranium1984 · 26/03/2024 20:31

Have cups or some extra fabric put in by a seamstress

shakeitoffsis · 26/03/2024 20:31

Perky pairs are amazing! Used them on my wedding day with my 34e chest and they didn't budge. Used them a few times since too, fantastic.

Unless anyone is particularly busty you could try a lace up stick on bra?

^ this was my thinking. I'd speak to your seamstress as well, she might be able to build something in to the dress to give a little more coverage.

AutumnCrow · 26/03/2024 20:33

I think that's a bit cheeky of the retailer tbh. In the group photo on the link, the woman on the left is sans bandeau and you can't see any nipples - in fact the image makes the fabric seem thicker than it obviously is. Quite misleading really.

My granny from Glasgow would have brought them a lovely pac-a-mac.

Doseofreality · 26/03/2024 20:37

Can’t you have cups sewn in? Would give more support as well.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/03/2024 20:40

Stick on bras if they are not too booby, I have a strapless bra where the back strap is clear plastic, something like that might work?

Snowdropsarelovely · 26/03/2024 20:43

I would get cups so, the dresses are beautiful Smile

Sewn in !! How do I edit?

AcrobaticCardigan · 26/03/2024 20:46

Agree with the pp. Take it to a dressmaker who can perhaps sew in another layer of fabric / mesh or cups.

MaisieMacabe · 26/03/2024 20:47

I don't understand why the bandeau makes them. look "matronly"?.
Plus, you keep calling them "girls" - how old are they?.

silverscythe · 26/03/2024 20:49

Have you tried silicone as well as fabric covers? I find the fabric ones show through dresses like that but the silicone ones are absolutely fine.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 26/03/2024 20:50

How do the bridesmaids feel?

Surely the point of a multiway dress is that each can choose their own preferred underwear and method of styling.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 26/03/2024 20:53

They will need some sort of underwear with that dress.

I own a couple of very similar dresses and I have to wear a multi way bra or stick on bra or a strapless spanx type thing depending on the configuration

Especially as a lot of ways those dresses tie they don't always stay tied as the fabric is very smooth and stretchy - it's one thing wearing it to try on and make sure that you have the right size, it's quite another to wear all day and go to the loo and realise that things have started to slip down!

EarringsandLipstick · 26/03/2024 21:05

The picture of the bride & bridesmaids makes it clear why a bra is needed. Even the smaller-chested woman could do with support & structure & the bigger women look desperate in the boob area.

Absolutely multi-way bras are needed.

MaisieMacabe · 26/03/2024 21:40

Sorry, you did say their ages, I missed that. I really don't understand why the bandeau makes them look "frumpy" or "matronly" ? - it's just an extra layer of coverage. I agree with pp that some sort of bra is needed, going by the manufacturer's own image.

Meadowbird · 26/03/2024 22:11

Looking at the group pictures they will really need bras - really unflattering on the larger boobed models.

Wooloohooloo · 26/03/2024 22:36

They'll need some sort of bra support or cups sewing in.

1983Louise · 26/03/2024 22:52

I used to use sellotape, it worked fine 😁

Agreed. The dresses look awful. Really unflattering.

TheSnowyOwl · 26/03/2024 23:15

I think they will need support wearing them and that will end up being the issue rather than just taping down half a dozen nipples.

I used Micropore from a first aid kit once! Two pieces per nork in a cross shape.

But, in this case I think a multi-way bra with transparent straps, or a stick-on bra would be better to give a bit of support and smoothing.
