Amber snow warning for 9th and 10th March in the Pennines and Peak district.

I feel that this warrants it's own mini thread as it could be a pretty severe event. Blizzard conditions and snow up to 40cm over higher ground are possible. This could cut off isolated communities and lead to power cuts

Please do not take either the exact location of the amber warning, nor the timings as exact. If you live just outside the warning area, think of it like a fuzzy boundary, not a hard boundary.

If school finishes at 2:45pm, don't think that's ok, the warning doesn't start until 3pm. The area will already be under pressure from snow through the day with a yellow warning already in force. Don't be that person stuck in a drift somewhere!

Friday afternoon may see a partial thaw, but with freezing conditions overnight on Friday night, ice could be a real issue on Saturday morning.

I've been alone with my 2 kids under 3 for 2 weeks and husband is due to fly into Manchester today at 3... driving to collect him from Leeds if its even possible 🤦🏼‍♀️ light snow at the moment.. hoping he could get a train but the forecast makes that look very unlikely just hoping he gets into the country!

The children are happy, sledge wise 😂

Getting quite 'good' here in my part of Cheshire now. Flakes much bigger and the sky looks full, starting to settle on grass and cars. I have a Very Important Work Meeting at 9:30 and the expect I'll spend the rest of the day messing about on here and looking out of the window!

I’m on the W Yorks/ N Yorks/ Lancs border, right in the middle of the Amber warning. We’ve got a covering from yesterday/overnight and fine snow has been falling all morning, waiting for it to ramp up late morning according to the Met Office forecast. School is open so far, hoping they get on and close if it does start to fall heavily but I can do it on foot (a couple of miles each direction) if really pushed. The burning question is - I only have one sledge between three kids. If I go and buy another now am I going to scupper our chances of a decent dump of snow?!

London trip cancelled - reckon I'd get down there okay, but don't want to risk being stranded.

So now, I'm happy for it to SNOW SNOW SNOW

A bit rubbish here in Cheshire, snowing absolutely loads but not sticking except for a very light covering, feels a bit wasteful!

Snow settling here in the Belper area! I’m out until lunchtime so hoping I can get up my hill home and I have a rear wheel drive car! 🫣

Yep settling here too. Rural villages already becoming difficult in a 2wd car.

@ListenLinda yeah that would work out better as its closer to where we live, just hoping they take off and just divert if they have to. Looking at UKV, there could be a period where the snow seems lighter for a time early to mid evening. This could then pep up again quite significantly, especially in the south of the amber region. By around 7am tomorrow, hopefully snow should clear out of the area.

I’m in a small village in rural Derbyshire (near Weston Underwood for those fellow locals on the thread😉) and it’s quite bad now.

Message from school to say they are closing at 1pm and to collect from class.
Not sure why they opened at all to be honest.

While it's wet/there's no ice around, I'll move my recycling bin to nearer the house and top up the bird table/feeders (again) they're really hungry and have munched thru a double feed already...there's a queue of starlings on the fence.
