I feel that this warrants it's own mini thread as it could be a pretty severe event. Blizzard conditions and snow up to 40cm over higher ground are possible. This could cut off isolated communities and lead to power cuts

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2023-03-09 is the Met Office warning.

Please do not take either the exact location of the amber warning, nor the timings as exact. If you live just outside the warning area, think of it like a fuzzy boundary, not a hard boundary.

If school finishes at 2:45pm, don't think that's ok, the warning doesn't start until 3pm. The area will already be under pressure from snow through the day with a yellow warning already in force. Don't be that person stuck in a drift somewhere!

Friday afternoon may see a partial thaw, but with freezing conditions overnight on Friday night, ice could be a real issue on Saturday morning.

Someone needs to take my tablet away, I am getting rather cross with people on AIBU justifying why it was ok for all those people to be out stuck on the M62, creating a nightmare for emergency services.

@OhYouBadBadKitten You really cannot argue with stupid. You're not allowed to dream about smacking them over the head with a virtual cricket bat either more's the pity

Lovely here in Cheshire. Snow has gone, daffs and crocuses (croci?) are glowing. It's a cracking day.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow Have you been able to assess the damage yet? I hope the climber is ok, you should be able to trim it and fit it to a new arch if the old one isn't fixable. 🤞

Just had an avalanche of snow land on the conservatory. On the bright side, hopefully the sliding snow is cleaning our solar panels.

I made it to Carsington Water, I have to say well done Derbyshire council, they've done a good job on the roads here. It's wonderful seeing beautiful snowy views all around but driving on a clear, dry road. So lucky.

Melting well here but -10 predicted tonight so ice tomorrow. I prefer snow.

Weird seeing all these pics with barely a flake here in Central Scotland. Usually us that gets it.

RampantIvy · 10/03/2023 17:29

Minus 8 predicted here tonight. The sky is very clear so temperatures will plummet. I have put the windscreen protector on my car.

Our local mountain rescue were out all night looking after folk stuck on the M62. Junction 22 is the highest motorway junction in the country. Madness to attempt that stretch in last nights weather.

Every other road across the moor was closed last night. I don’t understand why they don’t close the motorway too at that point. People always get stuck up there. (it’s local to me too).

Well, DS made his flight to Poland from LBA although it was delayed by over 4 hours and didn't leave until lunchtime and the taxi we'd ordered couldn't get to the airport so had to do a u-turn and come back so DH drove my 13-year-old knackered Vauxhall Astra to the airport in a not very direct but more flat route as he couldn't even get his Mercedes off the drive. Now breathe.... I'm just glad he was flying from LBA and not Manchester as the M62 East was a car-park for much of the day by the sounds of it.

Melting fast now but yes, we did have a bit of snow in Staffordshire Moo. This is 3 miles from where I live.
