An expert, Jenny Smith from the American Graphic Institute has told the NBC, that the Wales family photo is heavily edited. The photograph appeared to have been edited by hand, not by AI and new clothing added. Smith told the NBC it would have likely been edited by someone very experienced, not Kate.

If they were so experienced, why did they leave obvious discrepancies on the finished result?

Because they aren't miracle workers. What is/was the RF trying to hide?

JubileeJumps · 12/03/2024 05:21

People need to get a life.

I think she meant more experienced than an amateur, enough to do it by “hand” on Adobe and make drastic changes. It wasn’t a few tweaks here and there that got out of hand.

I really do, but at the moment I’m unwell and this is utterly fascinating. I also note that every news outlet in the world is analysing this so we are not alone.

there have been many articles for many years about Kate’s interest in photography, and any mum would have a bent towards getting a decent family photo. Which is to say of bloody course she is technically proficient enough to hand edit a photo. And for some ‘expert’ to come along and say couldn’t be her is probably sheer misogyny. Disbelief that a woman could be any good at her hobby of many years combined with a soupçon of judgyface that a royal can do anything at all.

The expert is a woman and if you listen to the interview she’s explained why it’s a bigger job and not AI.

I would assume that if KM was going to make drastic changes, she’s sensible enough to have someone highly experienced do it. She’s not exactly someone that isn’t conscientious. She has an art history degree with honours & doesn’t seem like the sort of person to submit something haphazardly.

I think she’s saying that to add vast swathes of “new imagery” to a photo, it’s not something you wouldn’t leave to a professional.

I totally agree. What is all the fuss about !

Willmafrockfit · 12/03/2024 05:42

they are all being so snooty about her photos.

HaveringGold · 12/03/2024 05:43

The media doesn't really care, they just want clicks or views. Search engines and social media tell them what people are fussing over and they create stories from that. Any expert who wants their 15 minutes of fame can add to the speculation and the media will cover it because they have 24/7 slots to fill - ideally with something people are fussing over.
Then - full circle - it's in the media do people fuss some more. And repeat...

I mean it's a shit show and god help the current PR team but it's not really earth shattering.

somewhereovertherain · 12/03/2024 05:47

The fuss is more what are they hiding the fact they’ve lied to the photo agencies and the image has been pulled because they don’t accept brushed up images.

flapjackfairy · 12/03/2024 05:50

@Primrosecottagelover
and before you give a sarky reply I am genuinely baffled.
What does it prove if it is edited? . Genuine question. Do people think she has died and the truth is bring kept from us.? Or has she been replaced by a doppelganger ?. What exactly do you and others think is going on in the situation ? And why ?
There was another instant thread dramatically titled BREAKING NEWS about the picture in the car taken yesterday and within a couple of post people were saying it is not Kate but someone else deliberately looking away from the camera. etc etc. It is madness
Surely she is simply recovering from her medical procedure as stated and will be back after Easter like they said. Some people will not be happy until she has stripped naked to show them her scars.

I think the speculation has gone mainstream. Yes, the media do things for money, they always have been driven by the public’s interest.

Many of the theories at ludicrous. Agree.

I think what makes this unusual is that it’s not just a bit of editing. For the picture agencies to pull this photo it means it’s been majorly changed. It’s a misrepresentation, not just some tweaking.

Yes, I think there’s an element of picture agencies and the media applying pressure for the Wales’s to not do their own photography.

I think there’s more going on here and that many people have that feeling especially now. It’s not just the photo, it’s many small things that don’t add up.

For a woman who the conspiracy theorists would say has mental health issues or separating from her husband or she wants to step back from royal life, the press and the public are really making it worse for her.

And there's another thread at the moment about Y6 social media access - the same age George is now, must be nice to see even a tiny piece of this speculation about your mum. And before someone says he'll be protected, I'm sure they'll do their best but it won't be fail proof.

CwmYoy · 12/03/2024 06:02

Which is why I want this to mark the end of the royal family. It’s not an institution that facilitates basic human rights, like freedom or privacy, especially for kids.

But it won't go away? At least for them and indeed the rest of us consuming the media. It will take generations for them to be "just" very rich folk.

Can you imagine George going to Uni without the implicit discretion of the press. I suspect we'll see that shit show hit when Harry's grow up outside of the royal family. A small taster is seeing Obamas kids get papped and fat/slut shamed.

I'm no royalist but the combination of the RF, commercial drivers of the 24/7 press and public consumption has created the monster. IMO it's not as simple as just cutting one head off.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 12/03/2024 06:13

I think this is a 'propaganda' photo gone badly wrong. I had accepted the photo and message from Kate at face value initially but now have doubts. I'm not even sure about the recent messages from Kate. She may have been persuaded to add her 'C' signature rather reluctantly.

The photo manipulation may have been done 'stealthily', with few in the know about it, and you won't get the best job done that way.

I'm back to being a conspiracy theorist, I'm afraid!

If they can navigate Brexit, they can navigate getting rid of the monarchy & even the mainstream media are saying that the wheels are falling off since QE2 died.

Britain has a constitutional monarchy so I don’t think it would be that simple.

If William says he doesn’t want the job when it’s his turn it goes automatically to George who will have to decide as well. And so on until you came to an heir that the country and parliament agreed on.

But I’m not a constitutional expert obviously 😁 so could be talking out of ass. Probably am as I’m on strong meds and steroids again 😬

Having worked for a family firm for years the guilt, obligation is inbred. Even now that I’ve retired I still feel guilty that I’m not ‘helping out’.

I suspect the some of the royals also have that guilt deeply embedded.

If they are hiding anything it will be personal and sensitive. You, OP, are part of the problem, hounding a woman who is unwell and a family with young kids who are trying to come to grips with a challenging situation. Leave it alone for heaven's sake. She felt pressure into publishing some sign of life when she wasn't ready. It was a mistake. People make mistakes when they are unwell, maybe on meds and severely under pressure, even the royal family. Let them sort out whatever personal situation they're grappling with with dignity and some privacy. In this instance it's Kate and her family being severely bullied and mocked online but that same online mob mentality may come knocking your family's door one day. I wouldn't wish it on anyone including the royal family. I am no royalist, I don't mind critical posts or articles that actually make intelligent arguments against the monarchy but these disparaging, below the belt, no shred of empathy or humanity threads on Twitter and now sadly on Mumsnet are too much. They hurt us all, not just the victim of online bullying, which in this case is Kate and her family including her young children. This tone of 'debate' or sharing opinions is harmful to society.

This isn’t online bullying, it’s speculation over how the institution is run. Anyone can see that the royals are just cogs in the machine, it’s the same questions that the media are asking.

The royal family are an institution and should be accountable.

The blame has been thrown at Kate and if anything this thread is in her defence.
