Would you get married in this dress?

We are getting married in a few weeks, on a little island in Denmark, just us and our two kids presnet (1&5). No guests, photographer+her assistant as a witness. Boys will wear navy / beige trousers + royal blue wool jumpers. Still need to think of what to get for my little girl. After the ceremony (it will only take 10 minutes max) we will go for ice cream and then to the beach for a run around.

I suppose I’m looking for some reassurance, dress is already here, I plan to wear a baby blue wool coat over it if it’s cold/ for outside. Still need to think of shoes - suggestions welcome!

What do you think re tights- no tights? Navy? Sheer?
Shoes - I like the idea of red little heals but I haven’t settled on anything yet!

Well i wouldnt get married in it no, but your wedding doesn't sound like traditional wedding I had. So if you'd like to wear it go for it.

GinMama400 · 05/04/2025 21:16

Fair point, I asked the wrong question! I guess I wanted to know opinions about the dress for the type of wedding we will have.

Wouldn't wear it at all, never mind get married in it.

AliBaliBee1234 · 05/04/2025 21:17

I really like it! I see the vision.

Mumdiva99 · 05/04/2025 21:17

I wouldn't because it would look hideous on me. But I think you should if you love it. (My wedding dress was non traditional and I have no regrets.)
Have a great wedding - it sounds lovely.

Overtheatlantic · 05/04/2025 21:17

I think it’s pretty and fun. It would look great with red Mary Jane pumps. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Mum2jenny · 05/04/2025 21:19

I wouldn’t, but again I got married in a grey silk dress

GinMama400 · 05/04/2025 21:21

Thank you all! I appreciate it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, to say the least! I also question how will the pattern photograph, it may look rather messy…but I do like how quirky it is.

Your wedding plan sounds like perfection! ❤️

I think the dress works for what you’re doing. I wouldn’t personally wear it because I don’t suit or like print and colour - but if you love it and it fits with your style then I think it would be great for the occasion.

HeyItsPickleRick · 05/04/2025 21:21

Do you love it?

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/04/2025 21:21

What a cute dress, lovely for the wedding you are having. I’d go for Red Mary Janes with heels.

Gundogday · 05/04/2025 21:23

It’s a nice dress. Certainly not traditional for a wedding.

I looked at a lot of more plain/simple dresses but I kept coming back to this one. Something draws me to it although I know it’s a bit bonkers haha.

If you’re questioning how it will photo are you questioning the dress? Because your wedding dress no matter what colour or style should be a ‘this is it!’ job! Also love the idea of your wedding! Congratulations in advance

whycantibeselfishforonce · 05/04/2025 21:26

I love the dress! But I love bright print midi and maxi dresses so it's right up my street. I'd say sheer tights though I'd probably go bare leg and wear red high heels. Though I'd take some red flip flops for running around on the beach afterwards! Congratulations OP - hope you have an amazing day - sounds fab!

That’s a fair point. I’ll try it again to see if I truly like the dress or just the idea of this dress… if you know what I mean.

thank you for all the nice words everyone! We are excited about the day! Different than most weddings but perfect for us.

It's sweet and nice but maybe with a red or darker blue coat rather than baby blue?

I like heart prints and your main guests are your kids so it makes sense to have something jolly they'd appreciate

RobinHeartella · 05/04/2025 21:43

And I suggest flat shoes, especially as you'll be on the beach afterwards

Actually yes! 👍👍👍👍👍

I am super conservative, don’t like loud patterns or colour, not very Bodeny BUT …

I have surprised myself by thinking that’s absolutely perfect for what you are planning!

The hearts and doves are perfect symbolism and it’s playful and quirky. And noone will be there to judge! I think with what you have in mind a bridal get up would be … weird.

My one hesitation is that while the red heels would be fabulous with it, I’m not sure how they would look once you had a baby blue coat on? A bit like a dress up doll? I just couldn’t see that bit. Have you got a navy coat?

Yes this post echoes my thoughts exactly.

I had a non traditional wedding dress and wedding, and everyone had an opinion on it ahead of time. On the day it worked perfectly and I have no regrets. Go with whatever makes you smile. Your wedding - your way.

Calliopespa · 05/04/2025 21:53

Buy it quick op cos I’m getting “ going fast” warnings when I click on the link!

It’s a wacky, romantic, playful dress for a wacky, romantic, playful wedding. The children are your guests. It’s formal but fun. I doubt you’ll do better actually - and this is coming from a person who has never bought a Boden loud pattern dress in her life …

howsthehair · 05/04/2025 22:13

I love it, I think it’s perfect for the day.

dudsville · 05/04/2025 22:18

I love the sound of your wedding and I can see how this dress fits perfectly in that scenario! I got married in a dark indigo denim midi skirt with a deep plum brown thick wool jumper and smart dms and will tights. DH write his best fleece, jeans and walking boots. It was mid-winter and icy. Our wedding was just the registrar and her assistant, who are friends of my husband, and 2 witnesses. After the brief ceremony, my husband and I went to an arcade and played some games and then went for a nice meal, replicating our most wonderful first date. It was a fabulous day. I'm pretty sure if I posted asking others opinions on what I wore it would have detracted from some of the spirit of what we chose to do. I hope you have a wonderful day, it sounds perfect!
