Would you get married in this dress?

We are getting married in a few weeks, on a little island in Denmark, just us and our two kids presnet (1&5). No guests, photographer+her assistant as a witness. Boys will wear navy / beige trousers + royal blue wool jumpers. Still need to think of what to get for my little girl. After the ceremony (it will only take 10 minutes max) we will go for ice cream and then to the beach for a run around.

I suppose I’m looking for some reassurance, dress is already here, I plan to wear a baby blue wool coat over it if it’s cold/ for outside. Still need to think of shoes - suggestions welcome!

What do you think re tights- no tights? Navy? Sheer?
Shoes - I like the idea of red little heals but I haven’t settled on anything yet!

I think it's a lovely frock and completely appropriate for your wedding. I agree with previous posters who said red mary janes, would look great with it, maybe a little posy of red and blue flowers. Have a fantastic day x

Trovindia · 05/04/2025 22:45

It doesn't look special enough for a wedding dress to me, I get that you want quirky but it looks like something you'd wear to a lunch rather than your wedding.

SwedishEdith · 05/04/2025 22:48

"And noone will be there to judge!"

Exactly. If you love it and you feel great in it, wear it happily. Your wedding sounds lovely.

TeaRoseTallulah · 05/04/2025 22:50

I think it's perfect for what you describe,have a lovely day 😊

wonderstuff · 05/04/2025 22:52

I love the symbolism on it, I think it’s lovely.

ThomasinaTankEngine · 05/04/2025 22:53

I think it’s beautiful OP and perfect for a fun non-traditional wedding. I second those recommending flat shoes since you’re going to be running around on the beach after. I think these would look great with it:

Ooh I love these! May get them anyway and keep even if they don’t go with the dress!

Thanks for the tips everyone. I don’t have a navy coat but will look around, I do think baby blue may not be best option for above shoes or red ones either - as someone said upthread I may look like a dolly 😅
Or I may just hope for good weather/wear something underneath and ditch a coat altogether!

Why question how it will look in photos when you can see it looks fab in Boden photo? Go for it and if you have narrow feet, go for Boden shoes as well. It all sounds so lovely and fun for the kids afterwards.

Wishing you and your future husband a very happy life together.

I really like it! I see the vision.

yes. sounds precious and fits the vibe you are describing. good for you for following your own vision here. congratulations on the wedding and best to your family.

DoComeToMeKitty · 05/04/2025 23:14

No

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/04/2025 23:17

I got married in trousers and killer heels. Wear what you feel fabulous in.

i did have a top on too! Not just trousers and heels!

HouseCaptain · 05/04/2025 23:17

If it’s your style, suits you and you’re comfortable in it - then go for it!

Curious0yster · 05/04/2025 23:18

I like it and I think it’s perfect for your wedding, which sounds amazing!

Outofthepan · 05/04/2025 23:19

No! Absolutely not. I’d rethink that and I think it will not photograph well

There are so many nice dresses out there, don’t do this!

Livingthelife88 · 05/04/2025 23:20

I like it, with the birds and hearts; if it looks good on you and as it is not traditional wedding go for it.

I don’t think it would look good on me but I loved it when I saw it.

TheSnowCanGoNow · 05/04/2025 23:21

I think it’s really lovely and fun, and the hearts and theming are perfect for the wedding you describe.

I would wear sheer tights, just so my shoes didn’t rub 🤣 and red heels sound lovely too.

monktasmic · 05/04/2025 23:22

The wedding sounds beautiful- I’d go a bit Jackie O I think? Baby blue if that what you like? Pill box hat - lovely coat - shift under it.,

Outofthepan · 05/04/2025 23:23

I’d rather die than wear anything “fun” mind you.

Your wedding sounds perfect. Just get a nicer dress, or just wear jeans

cornishatheart · 05/04/2025 23:24

I think it's brilliant, you'll look fantastic. I love the bluebirds on it.

Same, it's so cute!

Wildegeese · 05/04/2025 23:47

I'm all for a non-traditional wedding dress tbh- this looks fun and joyful. Itwould be fabulous with a red lipstick and some red shoes if you were that way inclined- I can imagine it looking really vibrant in photos.

My wedding dress was closer to a typical bridal dress but still something I could wear again if I wanted to. I got it for fifty quid on eBay for my courthouse wedding. It was perfect and I'm still very happy with my choice, more than 10 years on :)

Congratulations to you, OP. I hope you feel wonderful in your dress and many happy years with your soon-to-be DH! xxx

CottageGoblin · 05/04/2025 23:52

i would do red tights and blue shoes with it.

I think it’ll be great OP. just glow and own it

I would actually be inclined to do a red lip and a birdcage veil like this

ChristineKo · 05/04/2025 23:53

It's nice!!! You should totally wear it and congratulations!

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 06/04/2025 00:12

Yes I would. I think wear only once, generic white wedding dresses are awful.

Congratulations.

DrJump · 06/04/2025 00:22

If you are worried about how it photographs show it to the photographer first so she is prepared. She will find a way to photograph it well.
I'd go with the metallic blue shoes linked above as they a bit fancy/elevated/special.
The coat colour is tricky without seeing it over the top of the dress.

I think it's really fun.
