Would you get married in this dress?

We are getting married in a few weeks, on a little island in Denmark, just us and our two kids presnet (1&5). No guests, photographer+her assistant as a witness. Boys will wear navy / beige trousers + royal blue wool jumpers. Still need to think of what to get for my little girl. After the ceremony (it will only take 10 minutes max) we will go for ice cream and then to the beach for a run around.

I suppose I’m looking for some reassurance, dress is already here, I plan to wear a baby blue wool coat over it if it’s cold/ for outside. Still need to think of shoes - suggestions welcome!

What do you think re tights- no tights? Navy? Sheer?
Shoes - I like the idea of red little heals but I haven’t settled on anything yet!

Congratulations! Love your ideas sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought in to make it personal
Mumsnet style advice is overall staid with wear a bolero as the universal advice to any dress related query
Rock your own style, you know what you want.you know what suits you. This isn’t a group decision by delegation.
If you want staid, conservative. What would liz Truss wear, just ask mumsnet

I wouldn't wear it at all. However, if you like the dress and you are comfortable in it then go for it - I imagine you will look beautiful in it x

TwinklyNight · 06/04/2025 04:26

I think red shoes, no hose if planning on running on a beach. What's your dp wearing?

Enjoy your day!

wandawaves · 06/04/2025 04:32

No I don't like the idea of a patterned wedding dress, and I think it will date really quickly in photos.
I'd go a solid colour personally.

bridgetreilly · 06/04/2025 04:37

Sheer tights and red shoes. Fabulous.

I don’t know how old you little girl is, but what about a sweet sailor dress, with red tights?

SociableAtWork · 06/04/2025 05:39

Love it and it sounds perfect for the day you’ve planned - I love the pattern because of the hearts and what look like doves (peace/love).

I’d be tempted to get a second dress and have someone make a mini one for your daughter and bow ties for the boys - really embrace the hearts/love/peace theme (but appreciate this might be too OTT / tasteless for other people)

Bare legs or sheer tights and red Mary Jane heels. Congratulations - have a lovely day!

I love that dress, and I think it's absolutely perfect for the kind of wedding you have planned. The swallows and the hearts are just perfect, and very romantic. It would look great with red shoes. Swallows are symbols of love, hope, and fidelity, so I think it's really wonderful. Best of luck!

Abandonedandalone · 06/04/2025 06:57

No definitely not.

PopeJoan2 · 06/04/2025 07:04

I really love it.

Abandonedandalone · 06/04/2025 07:33

The jersey material doesn’t lend itself to such a special occasion even if it’s a wedding by the beach.
Also, I think you risk focus being on the pattern of the dress rather than how scrumptious you look in it.

This dress could be worn the day after the wedding or the day after that. It’s an everyday dress.

luckylavender · 06/04/2025 07:33

It's lovely. Have a wonderful day.

Gremlins101 · 06/04/2025 07:36

I hope you have a lovely day OP. It sounds like a wonderful wedding you have planned. X

cannynotsay · 06/04/2025 07:41

No I would not

but I am not you, you do you and have a fab wedding congratulations x

I agree but actually think this dress is peak of the mumsnet bolero vibe

Eenameenadeeka · 06/04/2025 08:06

You are going to look fabulous. Have a fantastic wedding day!

coldcallerbaiter · 06/04/2025 08:10

No it is too busy. It just looks high street, and every day wear. The focus should be on you and the dress should compliment. I would go for a plain colour floating dress of high quality with maybe a sash/belt in a brighter colour and match the shoes and accessories in.

Ohdearieme2025 · 06/04/2025 08:18

No, I definitely wouldn't. But you do you.

Solveago · 06/04/2025 08:26

Just perfect for your wedding and what you'll be doing afterwards

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2025 08:27

I don’t like the dress at all, but your wedding sounds absolutely gorgeous. Have a wonderful day.

CaptainCavey · 06/04/2025 08:28

I don't think navy tights would look great tbh OP. If you need tights I’d go with sheer as there’s already plenty of colour in the dress.

SoScarletItWas · 06/04/2025 08:36

Perfect for the wedding you’ve described. Go for it!

I would do sheer tights and red shoes.

Look for a short swing jacket in red or navy, LK Bennett and Gap used to do them so you’ll find them on eBay or Vinted.

I got married in a very untraditional dress (and red shoes as it happens!) and every time I wear the dress it reminds me of our fabulous day.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2025 08:37

Agree - sheer tights or bare legs

Augustone · 06/04/2025 09:08

I love it and think it is perfect for the wedding day you have planned! I wouldn’t go for baby blue coat though - I think navy or red would be better.

whatever you choose, have a fabulous day
