Would you get married in this dress?

We are getting married in a few weeks, on a little island in Denmark, just us and our two kids presnet (1&5). No guests, photographer+her assistant as a witness. Boys will wear navy / beige trousers + royal blue wool jumpers. Still need to think of what to get for my little girl. After the ceremony (it will only take 10 minutes max) we will go for ice cream and then to the beach for a run around.

I suppose I’m looking for some reassurance, dress is already here, I plan to wear a baby blue wool coat over it if it’s cold/ for outside. Still need to think of shoes - suggestions welcome!

What do you think re tights- no tights? Navy? Sheer?
Shoes - I like the idea of red little heals but I haven’t settled on anything yet!

@GinMama400 You might wonder why on earth you chose this in 20 years time. It’s close to hideous. Style is never a pattern like that.

I think it's beautiful!

Interested to see your idea of a stylish pattern if you don't like this one. Genuinely interested as I'm mostly suspicious of patterns, because most of them seem ugly to me. I think this is a fun one with a pretty colour scheme though. But most patterns are rather Granny's curtains.

mdinbc · 07/04/2025 02:57

Aw, it's got doves and hearts, it's colourful and romantic! Go for it.

faffadoodledo · 07/04/2025 10:12

For the wedding you've described, I think it's perfect. I'd get a pair of lovely heeled red sandals to go with it. Maybe from Esska.
Have a lovey day! x

What a cute dress, lovely for the wedding you are having. I’d go for Red Mary Janes with heels.

Edited

Yes definitely not heals.

Love the dress - sheer tights and some statement earring will set it off. A coat in one of the other colours might stop it from being over powered by the outer layer.

I really like the idea of the red trainers despite not being a trainer / dress fan usually. It fits the vibe.

I have to laugh at some of the comments on the dress not being suitable for a wedding and the ‘stylish’ alternative suggested being something my nan would have baulked at as too plain. Conformity is alive and well at all ages on here.

Love it!

I just don’t like the dress 🤷🏼‍♀️ Nothing to do with conformity, or pashminas or bolero jackets or any of that.

It looks fun, which I very much dislike in clothing. Like someone off Me Too off CBeebies.

But it’s not my wedding, I just answered the question

Spandaupants · 07/04/2025 17:45

Id like it for a more casual affair, after the wedding perhaps? Something less busy for actual wedding but those shoes in the pic are stunning 🤩 are they B0den too?

LaTristesseDureraToujours · 07/04/2025 17:46

Have the wedding that makes you happy, if you love that dress it’ll show in the photos and I think be much better than going traditional out of a feeling of needing to pick a ‘wedding dress’ and not what will make you feel most comfortable!

I got married in Iceland (not a ‘legal’ marriage but exactly what we wanted) in a sage bridesmaid’s dress (flowy as I was very pregnant, but also super cheap lol), while my husband wore a mix of bits found in a local theatre costume department (think equal parts regal and ridiculous) and our friend did our vows dressed as a wizard in a shockingly-good Gollum voice. Very weird but perfect all round. Wouldn’t have worked so well in traditional wedding clothes I don’t think.

Think what I’m trying to say is, do what makes you happiest. You’ll remember how good you feel in your non-traditional dress, I really like the colours. X

I love it!!! Yes, you should definitely get married in it. I cannot stand white wedding dresses, they all look the same and wearing one suggests no imagination. Enjoy your special day, red shoes sound perfect with navy tights

I’d love to see what your idea of style is, probably something very boring. This is a lovely dress and totally original.

I see the vision too OP. I think it's cute. Also agree with @excelledyourself
shoe suggestion - or at least along those lines.

Have a fabulous day.

Shesnotveryself · 07/04/2025 20:02

For some reason from your OP I was expecting to hate this but I love it. It's very sweet and a bit kitsch.

Are you looking at accessories. I think a birdcage veil would make it a bit dressier and add to the fun.or if that's not your thing, a statement headband

NeverTrustaRabbit2000 · 07/04/2025 20:04

The dress puts you firmly as a family and I think for that reason it is very special indeed. (I also love the theme of hearts and doves. Very symbolic) I'm wondering about patent bright red ankle boots (DM type) for running about on a chilly beach afterwards.

Zone2NorthLondon · 07/04/2025 20:21

That’s a really charming dress. Good choice

irregularegular · 08/04/2025 15:40

I think it looks perfect for the day you are planning.

TwoRobins · 08/04/2025 16:19

I could never carry that off in a million years but to be honest I LOVE IT!!! It's such a happy dress. I say yes, DO wear it to get married in, OP. And red shoes would look great with it. I wore red shoes for my wedding and never regretted it.

Thecobblerscat · 08/04/2025 17:05

Why not if you like it ?

It looks lively and colourful.

Enjoy !

BunnyLake · 08/04/2025 20:04

First reaction was, er no (never mind for a wedding) sorry.

Calliopespa · 08/04/2025 22:44

I think anyone would have to be a bit joyless not to think this is a charming dress for your style of wedding op .

Not everyone could wear it/pull it off, but if you think yon can, I think it’s perfect!

Moonsonetime · 08/04/2025 23:02

Given the wedding is mainly going to be having nice photos I would be want to colour coordinate across you, your husband and your dc so it doesn't look like a day out and is more obviously an event (The Event!)

YourPeppyLilacPoster · 09/04/2025 02:39

I love your dress. I wouldn't wear it to get married but it's your choice. I'd wear sheer barely nude tights and red heels.
