Would you get married in this dress?

We are getting married in a few weeks, on a little island in Denmark, just us and our two kids presnet (1&5). No guests, photographer+her assistant as a witness. Boys will wear navy / beige trousers + royal blue wool jumpers. Still need to think of what to get for my little girl. After the ceremony (it will only take 10 minutes max) we will go for ice cream and then to the beach for a run around.

I suppose I’m looking for some reassurance, dress is already here, I plan to wear a baby blue wool coat over it if it’s cold/ for outside. Still need to think of shoes - suggestions welcome!

What do you think re tights- no tights? Navy? Sheer?
Shoes - I like the idea of red little heals but I haven’t settled on anything yet!

'The focus'

🤣🤣 her one-year-old her five year year-old or her husband to be?? The celebrant. The photographer., the assistant.

'focus' 🤣🤣🤣

?????

I mean she might be overshadowed by the dress. You want to wear a dress, not have the dress wear you.

medlobath · 06/04/2025 12:36

I love it except for the high neckline. Def need red drop earrings. Have fun

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 06/04/2025 12:53

No!!!! We had a surprise wedding so not traditional. I wore a 1950s dress so still dressy just diff to the norm but I now regret I didn’t do the whole white dress. You will regret it if you wear a dress you’d go to the shops in.

Mumofoneandone · 06/04/2025 12:58

Love it!! Get some really good wool thermals and then accessorie with red shoes/boots, scarf and cardigan/gilet. Sounds like you just want to have a really fun outfit to get married in - go for it!!

Topsyturvy78 · 06/04/2025 13:33

If you like it and feel comfortable in it then go for it. It might be breezy on the beach though so I would take something to change into to run around after 3 DC for after the wedding.

I saw someone wear a non-traditional dress on Instagram and looked great, I don’t know her but here’s the pic from her page. So yes o can see the vision too 😊

I love her shoes with it!

outerspacepotato · 06/04/2025 13:51

I love it for a chill beach wedding in cool weather. The hearts and dove pattern makes it so symbolic.

I'd do navy tights and flat red shoes and maybe a navy or red wool shawl if needed with a shawl pin to keep it on in a sea breeze.

🎉 I hope you have a lovely wedding.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 06/04/2025 13:58

I wouldn’t but I’m not you. It’s the kind of dress that people wear in the office where I work. It doesn’t seem special enough to me. But it’s your wedding. If you love it. Wear it!

With the baby blue coat, baby blue shoes with a closed toe and block heel.

It’s a lovely quirky dress in keeping with your wedding vibes.

Can you get some photographs taken to test it out beforehand?

I’m torn. Personally I think it’s a bit too busy and the focus might be on the dress, not you. On the other hand, I can see what you see in it.

I know you didn’t ask for alternatives but this is rather sweet and you could add a belt in a contrasting colour or metal and perhaps a dove brooch to bring out the symbolism? Mary Janes and a birdcage hat to complete the look as pp have suggested (especially if your daughter is wearing a sailor dress).

Monsoon baby blue tea dress

Love this one & the styling suggestion! Timeless, classic & love the blues against the background of the sea and natural elements.
Would work perfectly with the blue on the boys too. You could get red shoes & have your daughter in red/blue.

It doesn’t sound like you LOVE the dress you’ve chosen, though the symbolism is sweet and agree that the pattern will be competing for attention.

Alternatively, given your location and the beach setting, you could do a lovely chunky knit or knitted jumper over a skirt with a nice necklace and some boots, with the others in knits too. Beautiful, moody, relaxed against the seaside.

I love a print, but I think this one would date.

PorcupinesAreSpiky · 06/04/2025 15:35

It sounds like a beautiful wedding and the dress will fit in perfectly. I hope you have a wonderful day

Disagree. I also wore a non-white not traditional wedding dress and red heels. My dress was 'dressier' than OP's, but definitely far from a white meringue.

I don't regret it for a second.

If you love it, OP - wear it. Sounds perfect for your little wedding. Congrats! :)

DressOrSkirt · 06/04/2025 15:46

I love it and would wear it. Blue always feels like a wedding colour to me (your "something blue") and the love bird print is very sweet and appropriate.

I wore a non traditional wedding dress and have no regrets!

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 06/04/2025 15:55

Aw, that looks perfect for your bright and breezy Danish beach wedding OP! I'd always go for nude tights but navy could work too. And I love the idea of red shoes with it. Make it a low block heel though, don't want to be sinking into the sand!

GinMama400 · 05/04/2025 21:24

I looked at a lot of more plain/simple dresses but I kept coming back to this one. Something draws me to it although I know it’s a bit bonkers haha.

Oh defintitely go with your heart - this dress is 'you'. I married in a non trad dress and no regrets. I felt lovely when I put it on and that was that.

Flamingoknees · 06/04/2025 17:55

I think it's peefect for your plans. Not with baby blue jacket though. Needs navy. Have a lovely day, and congratulations 🥂

TizerorFizz · 06/04/2025 19:21

@GinMama400 You might wonder why on earth you chose this in 20 years time. It’s close to hideous. Style is never a pattern like that.

TaggieO · 06/04/2025 19:32

I love it!!

AlwaysTryingVeryHard · 07/04/2025 00:43

I think it's nice because your children are quite young and this looks like a fun Mum dress, rather than a sexualised wedding dress. It reminds me a bit of Floella Benjamin in a way, and has a lovely caring warm feel.

Jaessa · 07/04/2025 01:48

I wouldn't personally, it gives me art teacher vibes, the type who day drinks on weekdays

Eh? Art teachers drink during the work day?

I don't think the dress gives art-teacher vibes, anyway. It's too smart for that.
