Would you get married in this dress?

GinMama400 · 05/04/2025 21:05

We are getting married in a few weeks, on a little island in Denmark, just us and our two kids presnet (1&5). No guests, photographer+her assistant as a witness. Boys will wear navy / beige trousers + royal blue wool jumpers. Still need to think of what to get for my little girl. After the ceremony (it will only take 10 minutes max) we will go for ice cream and then to the beach for a run around.

I suppose I’m looking for some reassurance, dress is already here, I plan to wear a baby blue wool coat over it if it’s cold/ for outside. Still need to think of shoes - suggestions welcome!

What do you think re tights- no tights? Navy? Sheer?
Shoes - I like the idea of red little heals but I haven’t settled on anything yet!

I liked it at first glance and then realised it was covered in hearts so it looks 'gimmicky'. It's up to you what you wear and if the dress style suits you, that would be lovely but maybe a different patterned fabric.

Think ahead, in years to come you mind find the photographs embarrassing, people would have a giggle at all the hearts.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2025 07:00

I really don’t think people would laugh. That’s a mean thing to say. I think some may assume that the children choose their idea of a pretty dress for mummy - and that’s okay.

I don’t like the print but the OP does and for the ceremony they’re having the dress style seems perfect. Sheer tights/ red shoes/ red converse to change into.

twinmum2007 · 09/04/2025 09:59

Love love love it. It's fab. I would wear it for sure. Red ballet pumps with it maybe and sheer tights if it's a bit chillier than you expect. Not navy.

SchoolDilemma17 · 09/04/2025 12:07

I think it will age badly. It’s quirky and fun but for wedding pictures no!

flowersinmyheart · 09/04/2025 18:42

I love it and think it’s perfect! I love the red hearts ! Quirky and gorgeous and yes ! Red shoes will be amazing ! Good luck and wish you all the happiness in the world ! Xxxxx

i do wonder if posters have read the op,it’s her style her wedding
Not what someone else or you’d wear
pointless to tell @GinMama400 it is unsuitable. Won’t look good in photo or a it is a hard no.
Obviously, she’ll look her best in her usual style not attire she’s not usually chose
is it really so difficult for some posters to conceptualise that not all wedding guests inc @GinMama400 want a wedding frock or a bolero and staid doesn’t cut it for everyone

Outofthepan · 09/04/2025 20:03

@Zone2NorthLondon the op literally asked “would you wear this dress”

@Zone2NorthLondon the op literally asked “would you wear this dress”

and then went on to elaborate on her style and preferences including photos
Replies of No! And saying it’s unsuitable and ghastly add nothing other than emphasising someone else style

Outofthepan · 09/04/2025 20:50

@Zone2NorthLondon so the only correct response is to say yes it’s lovely?

Hfjfjfjfjfj · 09/04/2025 22:02

Love it, but for the wedding would go for something cream/white as it won’t date in pictures and will be clear what the day was. A similar design would be great. For mine I just bought a white dress, not a wedding dress.

Congratulations and have a great time. Beautiful place. If it isn’t hot enough for ice creams there are some amazing bakeries.

WilfredsPies · 09/04/2025 22:41

I think it’s fantastic. I wouldn’t choose it for me because it wouldn’t suit my look or my body type, but I could certainly envisage a really cool bride in it. You need something lovely for your hair, too.

I saw my wedding dress on line and fell in love with it. Nothing else came close to what I wanted so I stopped looking. It wasn’t a wedding dress at all, and when I described it, a few people thought I was joking. But I loved it and I felt amazing in it from the minute I put it on. That’s the feeling you want when you’re choosing your dress. Mine was a bit more flouncy than yours, but it suited us, our wedding and, most importantly, me. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of it. They’ve had their day and their chance to choose what to wear. And plain cream or ivory dresses aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. This is all about you and what makes you feel wonderful.

valentinka31 · 09/04/2025 23:14

You've chosen it and you like it, that's the only thing that matters.

Lots of us here will say we'd have something different, but that doesn't matter.

My only thought would be I'd want something really not ordinary for such a moment, and this is a nice dress that I might wear anyhow for any nice day. BUT this day with your children and the ice cream after is very casual and intimate and I guess this is how you've planned it, so in that sense it's perfect.

It is a strong pattern and it will dominate photos but that's part of its charm.

Hope you have a lovely moment xxx

Love it and it sounds perfect for the day you’ve planned - I love the pattern because of the hearts and what look like doves (peace/love).

I’d be tempted to get a second dress and have someone make a mini one for your daughter and bow ties for the boys - really embrace the hearts/love/peace theme (but appreciate this might be too OTT / tasteless for other people)

Bare legs or sheer tights and red Mary Jane heels. Congratulations - have a lovely day!

I love this idea!

80smonster · 10/04/2025 14:06

It’s giving heavy wedding guest vibes to me… I guess as it’s only you guys maybe there is no confusion, but I wouldn’t.

MrsPositivity1 · 10/04/2025 15:00

I love it, and think it would be perfect for you

Confusion? Why would anyone be confused? She’ll be the woman at the front, promising to love, honour and cherish etc, beaming with happiness and wearing a lovely outfit.

Or are you thinking that her DP might mistake her for an overly enthusiastic guest?

Dora33 · 10/04/2025 18:21

I usually love a patterned and bright coloured dress. But the pattern on the dress just seems wrong for a dress. It would be better placed used as curtains or a duvet in a small child's room.
You will have your wedding pictures for the rest of your life. The busyness of the dress could overwhelm the picture of you all.
Your wedding sounds fun and I hope your family has a lovely day.

agreed.

I think it might seem fun when you’re in the first flush of motherhood and all that, but regretted later

Edited

Every single wedding photo in existence is dated and of its time. Wearing white does nothing to change that - just look at some of the 70s and 80s bridal monstrosities of dresses.

Pippyls67 · 13/04/2025 12:42

Kids might like it but to be honest it could look a bit daft to them in the photos as adults. It’s very child like isn’t it. I’d keep it for other fun stuff maybe and buy something bright but a little bit more sophisticated for your wedding. Florals in a more traditional pattern maybe? Love the idea of the pale blue coat though. Stunning!

pusscat1 · 13/04/2025 14:46

Wow! Oh my goodness! I absolutely love the sound of your wedding and I think the dress is totally gorgeous for that type of wedding. I love it! I would also like to make a suggestion of Saltwater sandals in red I think would look super cute with this (or the red heels you suggest)
I think your wedding and all the outfit choices and destination sound gorgeous. I really hope it goes beautifully - enjoy and congratulations !! Xx

Franjipanl8r · 13/04/2025 23:31

I bought a high street dress for my wedding but had it custom altered so it fitted just right. I don’t think it matters at all what dress you choose as long as you like it and it fits and flatters you well. The worst would be getting the photos back and seeing different angles where it doesn’t quite fit your body shape.

Franjipanl8r · 13/04/2025 23:39

I know you haven’t asked for this advice, but if you’re having a tiny wedding (like I did), make sure you choose outfits for the kids that are comfy and they want to wear. If they’re moaning about what they’re wearing and you don’t have anyone else to help pacify them, it can put a real downer on the day!
