Will Stanley cups become the next "must have" in the UK?

Somewhat lighthearted! Grin

So, on TikTok/ Instagram etc, it seems that pink Stanley cups are the next big accessory! I must admit, they do look very pretty!

Who's buying one for their spring wardrobe?

I am obsessed with mine, had it for a wee while now.

MotherOfRatios · 06/01/2024 22:28

I want one but can't get one!

Mirrormeback · 06/01/2024 22:28

Are they leak proof

OnlyCorrect · 06/01/2024 22:28

They've been popular for a few years now, I think?

Bainbridgemews · 06/01/2024 22:30

I dont get the appeal of them myself, but think you're about 18 months behind the trend on this one OP!

Mirrormeback · 06/01/2024 22:30

They've been very popular all year due to TikTok popularity but they don't look leak proof and with the bottom being smaller than the top I don't get the point or love of them really.

LuluBlakey1 · 06/01/2024 22:33

Are they these? If they are they are just incredibly ugly, tacky looking, plastic tat.

Singleandproud · 06/01/2024 22:39

I think this craze is really interesting 110 year old company, traditionally marketed to men / manual workers. Woman buys one in a nice colour sells out on her blog, convinces company to offer a greater variety of colours changing their target audience and bam took the company from $75 million to $750 million in sales in 12 months. I'm assuming the weird shape was because originally they were for long distance truckers to keep their drinks hot/cold on the road. Its like if suddenly Thermos offer flasks in sparkly pink - although I do own three in their red version.

Going viral is really weird, it's similar to when Spotify accidentally released 30 seconds of static as Taylor Swifts new song instead of the actual song and it went to number one.

Ridingthegravytrain · 06/01/2024 22:40

God no all that straw sucking is a recipe for wrinkles. I'd rather smoke a fag 😂

Ostryga · 06/01/2024 22:41

They’re becoming passé rather quickly now so you’re a bit behind the trend op.

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/01/2024 22:42

Hmmm. They don't look like I could chuck it haphazardly into my gym bag or into the passenger footwell without leakage, so it's a no from me.

wageslavery · 06/01/2024 22:43

The side handle is really useful but they're too big. They do a smaller one but it doesn't have the side handle. I'm not lugging 1.2 litres of water around all day as I work in an office with access to a tap!
DD (18) is normally very into all this stuff but doesn't want one due to the size.

FirstFallopians · 06/01/2024 22:46

I’m absolutely fascinated with the obsession over these things!

I’ve seen videos on TikTok from the last few days of women in the US queuing up outside Target at 6am to get the newest colours they’ve released, videos of teenagers going mental with delight over getting one for Christmas.

It’s a flask? It’s not even leak proof- you need to buy another attachment so you could put it in a bag.

Poppytops88 · 06/01/2024 22:47

I got one for my secret santa pressie!! I'd never seen one before. My 14 year old dd was like "omg you got a Stanley cup, can i take it to dance with an ice coffee in?"
Its just so big, doesn't fit in cup holder but does keep things hot/cold for a long time..

Bunnyannesummers · 06/01/2024 22:59

I love mine! My only complaint is it doesn’t fit in UK car cup holders so I had to get an adaptor

HighHolidays · 06/01/2024 23:04

They already are!
They've been popular here for ages but almost every girl at DC's swimming club seems to have had one for Christmas.
I've got one for home and a smaller leak proof one for out and about. I love how they keep my water the same temperature all day. Before I got it I was always leaving half empty glasses of water around the house, now I just have my big cup of perfect water.

In my (slightly wanky) work circle they are already. Everyone I know who has one swears by theirs.

FannyFifer · 06/01/2024 23:08

I think they've been a nurse thing here for a while, I've a couple that I've had for a year or two anyway.

SemperIdem · 06/01/2024 23:09

They are apparently not leak proof, unlike their traditional model.

The pp above is completely right about how interesting it is that an older company has managed to tap into a previously untargeted market demographic and experienced massive success off the back of it.

Granted they’ve done it with an inferior product, but that’s quite fitting, all things considered.

padsi1975 · 06/01/2024 23:04

Oh no! I haven't even ordered one yet and I'm already out of fashion! Sad

I'm sorry OP but who buys a cup for their "Spring wardrobe"?

The whole worlds gorn mad I tell you. Mad.

Wytchy · 06/01/2024 23:23

I find the Stanley craze very odd. I am baffled at the hysteria these flasks provoke.

I am now my mother, tutting and shaking my head at the young 'uns.

You're best joining the UK website waiting list if you want one

uk.stanley1913.com

I got mines in the summer. I do like it, but my god it leaks when it falls over which is really annoying considering how bloody expensive it is!
