Will Stanley cups become the next "must have" in the UK?

Somewhat lighthearted! Grin

So, on TikTok/ Instagram etc, it seems that pink Stanley cups are the next big accessory! I must admit, they do look very pretty!

Who's buying one for their spring wardrobe?

🤣

Not as good as the juice box one!

Themountainwithsnowonit · 07/01/2024 09:43

I don't understand why anyone would buy a cup that leaks.

WeAreBorg · 07/01/2024 09:50

Imagine the shame of having the wrong plastic cup
The entirety of 2023 involved me drinking out of a mug or a wine glass like some haggardy hag from ye olden times

Peteryourhorseishere · 07/01/2024 09:56

So many people where I live walking around with them (probably knock offs, but big cups).

They look like overgrown toddlers with beakers. I drink a lot of water and herbal tea but I’ve never felt the need to take any to Tesco with me.

Kalevala · 07/01/2024 09:56

I refill a 1l juice bottle. Does the same job.

43ontherocksporfavor · 07/01/2024 09:58

@Peteryourhorseishere i know what you mean. A colleague carries about a 2 L bottle and I’m wondering if she’s ever heard of a tap.

Daisies12 · 07/01/2024 09:59

I hope not, they’re horrible and I bet people never clean them properly, it can make you really ill

43ontherocksporfavor · 07/01/2024 10:01

@WeAreBorg 😂

LenaLamont · 07/01/2024 10:02

Another confused one here, expecting hockey enthusiasts. My neighbour had a model of the Stanley Cup his junior team won. We were all very impressed.

QueSyrahSyrah · 07/01/2024 10:05

Weird how in the 80s and 90s (and beforehand, but my experience only extends that far) we managed just with whatever access to taps and glasses we had, and yet didn't dehydrate or become extinct.

All through school and my early days at work we drank at breakfast, at breaks and then at dinner after. Nobody carried water around from place to place because we don't live in the middle of the Sahara.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 07/01/2024 10:15

I have one that I keep in my classroom and the children in my class think I am very cool! I do find I drink more now I have it. I bought one for my niece for Christmas and that has added to my cool aunty rating. I actually used some gift vouchers that were going out of date so they didn't feel too expensive. I probably wouldn't have spent my own money on it though.

pictoosh · 07/01/2024 10:18

God almighty people really will copy anything.

Rafting2022 · 07/01/2024 00:06

No-one has said drinking water isn’t good for you - taps exist. The same ones you’re filling your cup from. And presumably also have access to at work.

This. When I was working I'd use a glass - going for a refill was a chance to stretch my legs and gave me a brief break from staring at screens.

Why? Is it easier than other cups?

This is so true!!
My dd school has stopped the ability to buy a drink in the canteen so they HAVE to remember their water bottle or no drink all day.

kitsuneghost · 07/01/2024 10:28

I think they will sell a lot and be thrown you the back of the cupboard quite quickly. They look impractical and too bulky.
Airup had the same problem and are beginning to die off after the huge hype last year/year before

Rafting2022 · 07/01/2024 00:09

And penicillin was discovered in 1928 so not a couple of generations ago.

1928 is a couple of generations ago for some of us.
My gran was born in 1928

DragonFly98 · 07/01/2024 10:34

They already are , I bought mine a year ago it's great doesn't leak keeps drinks cold. They are very popular here with teens and tweens too,

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 07/01/2024 10:35

Dd got hers in the summer when we went to the US on holiday. We visited a few targets before she found one in Orlando.
then when we got home John Lewis started stocking them and so she brought herself a lilac one and I inherited the sand coloured one.
I do drink a lot of water so it’s handy that it keeps it cool all day and I don’t have to refill it. But it leaks and it’s not very steady. It often falls over when it’s on the floor by the side of my bed.

the problem for teens is we don’t get the cool colours here. We won’t get thr pink Starbucks valentines collection so it’s a bit of a show off for teens that go to America regularly or have parents that travel for work and get the colours that you can’t get here. Dd is 17 and would probably give her right arm for a hot pink Starbucks Stanley colab.

I love mine! My only complaint is it doesn’t fit in UK car cup holders so I had to get an adaptor

My 40oz one does they are narrower on the bottom. That's strange yours doesn't fit.

BoohooWoohoo · 07/01/2024 10:40

They aren’t designed for popping into bags- you carry them in your hand or in your car cup holder.

This has been massive on TikTok for months (although this is the first I’ve heard of pink being the on trend colour) . I would consider buying one (more likely a dupe) so that I can carry around a drink with ice cubes that don’t melt quickly in summer heatwaves.

I saw a TikTok predicting women who are heavy users of these cups wanting fillers in a few years when they end up with lines around their mouth from making the mouth shape for the straw /nozzle depending on type.

RampantIvy · 07/01/2024 10:41

I can manage the 2 hour drive to visit DD without needing to drink several pints of water.

converseandjeans · 07/01/2024 10:43

What happened to Chillys? Are they not as good as Stanley's?

www.chillys.com/uk/products/bottle-monochrome-all-black

That's interesting they used same marketing person as crocs. What next?

To be fair I was in school in the 90s (graduated 2002) and definitely remember carrying water bottles around. Those 500ml ones with flip lids and squeezy tops, useful for water fights. A water bottle was one of the few things we could take into exams and everyone had one by their chair.

Wytchy · 07/01/2024 10:50

I've just seen a TikTok from a trends predictor bod saying the Stanley trend will soon drop off as they're currently so popular with the 11 year old demographic thus making them less desirable for teens and adults.
