Will Stanley cups become the next "must have" in the UK?

Somewhat lighthearted! Grin

So, on TikTok/ Instagram etc, it seems that pink Stanley cups are the next big accessory! I must admit, they do look very pretty!

Who's buying one for their spring wardrobe?

I think this craze is really interesting 110 year old company, traditionally marketed to men / manual workers. Woman buys one in a nice colour sells out on her blog, convinces company to offer a greater variety of colours changing their target audience and bam took the company from $75 million to $750 million in sales in 12 months. I'm assuming the weird shape was because originally they were for long distance truckers to keep their drinks hot/cold on the road. Its like if suddenly Thermos offer flasks in sparkly pink - although I do own three in their red version.

Going viral is really weird, it's similar to when Spotify accidentally released 30 seconds of static as Taylor Swifts new song instead of the actual song and it went to number one.

Edited

that is interesting.

anyone with Stanley shares must be all too delighted at this dramatic turn in the company's story. Grin

I find them horribly big and look awkward. Pass from me 😂

(except when I saw its perfect size to hold a tub of ice cream, nearly had me there 😂)

Grimchmas · 06/01/2024 23:27

I really don't get the appeal. I think they're ugly, and impractical (and i own a pair of cross!)

CrapBucket · 06/01/2024 23:28

The power of marketing I guess! I will stick with my trusty Bodum that doesn’t leak and imo looks nicer anyway….

Klcak · 06/01/2024 23:30

My teen dd begged for one for a long time. I didn't want to get it, but eventually decided that I would get it for her. I got it on Amazon, had to wait a while as think it came from US. However, when it arrived, it seemed lovely quality and I had a drink from it and really liked it. I nick it when she's at school. It's fun to drink out of and makes you piss a lot. Keeps the water cool as well. My ds then kept taking it as well so I bought him one for Christmas. I think they are pretty nice. They aren't leak proof and I think they are more a drink for when you are at home working at a desk, rather than something you take about. But they do get you to drink lots of water.

You don't need to go on waiting lists, just buy one off Amazon if you want one. I am quite a grinchy old woman, but I love the thing!

Klcak · 06/01/2024 23:31

Assuming you don't mind which colour. I don't mind so just got what was available.

TLDRfuckers · 06/01/2024 23:32

their surge in popularity is thanks to the same guy who turned ugly old uncool Crocs into a must-have shoe.

hoping he turns it around for high waisted “full briefs” in 100% cotton now! Grin

RedRobin100 · 06/01/2024 23:34

Just back from visiting my sis she has one,

They are ridiculously big and clunky and no not leak proofs

no way I’d be arsed carrying it anywhere

Are they these? If they are they are just incredibly ugly, tacky looking, plastic tat.

Agree.

I don't get it. It's just a cup / flask? And, by all accounts they leak. So wtf is this all about?

Those of in the know <taps side of nose> have been buying the Amazon big knickers for 2-3 years now.

Luddite26 · 06/01/2024 23:40

I thought you meant the Stanley cups from Cath Kidston I'm totally out of this loop.

It's quite a pleasurable fast flow
Sounds ridiculous, but I think true

Not plastic. Metal.

pastypirate · 06/01/2024 23:48

Dd2 begged me for one. I told her we could if we did a load of boring surveys to save up in Amazon vouchers. It took about 3 months but we both got one a pink one and a cream one. They are very nice and feel like very good quality. I doubt I would have bothered if she wasn't so keen.

That said because they leak they are not a patch on the metal air up flask. Dd2 bought the air up with her own cash and my god it's worth the £40!!! Freezing cold water and solid ice cubes 12 hours later plus the pod things. It's very good and worth the hype.

ShelleyCarpenter · 06/01/2024 23:49

I have one but don’t love it. It leaks if it tips over

Namechange4448830938489 · 06/01/2024 23:50

How on earth did we older generations survive without this constant water chugging all day?

Couldn’t agree more. I assume that everyone works in the desert with no access to taps.

And don’t start me on iced coffees.

missushbbb · 07/01/2024 00:00

I got one a couple of weeks ago from Urban outfitters, the slightly smaller one with the handle at the top. It's fab. Would recommend

CherryBlossom321 · 07/01/2024 00:01

My 15 year old has had hers for ages.

How tedious - I’m sure the generation (or two) before you thought antibiotics were a waste of time.

Drinking water is good for you.

Spending £40 on an ugly, leak prone vassal for said water is the problem.

Lacyy · 07/01/2024 00:05

It's a great example of the power of getting your marketing right.

They look a bit impractical to me. We have a few of the classic Stanley travel mugs which we bought for days out hiking, now they are useful.

Rafting2022 · 07/01/2024 00:06

No-one has said drinking water isn’t good for you - taps exist. The same ones you’re filling your cup from. And presumably also have access to at work.

I'm quite partial to an iced coffee I must admit.

TicTac80 · 07/01/2024 00:07

My DD was after one for ages, but the prices were ridiculous. I did find her one on eBay though, so she is very happy with that. I hate the fact that it is not leak proof. I love the fact that it's encouraging her to drink plenty of water (and that it keeps water nicely chilled) each day.

The Air Up flasks look good - I'd not heard of those before :)

HJ40 · 07/01/2024 00:07

You know they're a thing, but past the peak, when you can buy knock offs in Home Bargains...

12gum · 07/01/2024 00:08

Been popular at my work for around a year now. Almost every woman has one.
