Will Stanley cups become the next "must have" in the UK?

Somewhat lighthearted! Grin

So, on TikTok/ Instagram etc, it seems that pink Stanley cups are the next big accessory! I must admit, they do look very pretty!

Who's buying one for their spring wardrobe?

Part of the thing in America is the water flavouring craze. Apparently you need lots of fruit syrups and drops to add flavour to your water. Your Stanley cup means you can drink more of it. Dread to think what it does to your blood sugar levels. I just have water in mine.

Its hysteria .. it has to be lol

fatimashortbread · 08/01/2024 18:57

I don’t play Ice Hockey 🏒 in the United States or Canada so no 😀

I think this craze is really interesting 110 year old company, traditionally marketed to men / manual workers. Woman buys one in a nice colour sells out on her blog, convinces company to offer a greater variety of colours changing their target audience and bam took the company from $75 million to $750 million in sales in 12 months. I'm assuming the weird shape was because originally they were for long distance truckers to keep their drinks hot/cold on the road. Its like if suddenly Thermos offer flasks in sparkly pink - although I do own three in their red version.

Going viral is really weird, it's similar to when Spotify accidentally released 30 seconds of static as Taylor Swifts new song instead of the actual song and it went to number one.

Edited

Thermos do have a sparkly pink, rose, dark and purple. I have it, it's the rose one that you drink directly out of and it's absolutely beautiful, we have matching mother/daughter ones as they do it in two sizes.

their surge in popularity is thanks to the same guy who turned ugly old uncool Crocs into a must-have shoe.

hoping he turns it around for high waisted “full briefs” in 100% cotton now! Grin

Love this. Big knickers for the win!

Nope!

Not so keen on these, however I love the Cath Kidston large ceramic Stanley mugs and have several lovely designs, my favourites being the polar bear and penguin design and the” otterly amazing” design.

DH would be horrified at this trend, it is Yeti or nothing. He has loads of them and certain lids do not leak, and go in the dishwasher

Oh god are we married to the same man? The kids even have them in their own set of unique colours. I put ice in one once, for my rose when I was drinking in the park with friends, forgot about it and it was still frozen 3 days later. They’re really good!

Edit: yes I realise that make me sound like a teenager but I promise it was classy cote de provence from Waitrose, not lambrini from the offy 🤣
Anyway, Yeti cups for win!

QuizzlyBears · 08/01/2024 21:09

I have two, fully admit I’m easily influenced but they are great and I think well worth the money. Mine are the 40oz and fit in my car cup holders, but mine are adjustable (Ford).

Thefsm · 08/01/2024 21:43

It’s so ridiculous. People queuing outside targets for hours just to get to buy a dumb cup. At least it leaves the other grocery stores empty when I need to get shopping in.

Oh no, another Yeti obsessive exists! He insisted the kids had one whether they wanted one or not!

BooBooDoodle · 08/01/2024 22:13

I got a knock off version from Temu for £4. Keeps a brew warm most of the day, dishwasher safe and a pretty colour. It’s an adult sippy cup at the end of the day. I bought mine for football matches of a weekend and to hold a decent sized brew in and to help wash down my sausage sarnie. Don’t get the craze if I’m honest. I look a right twat on the sidelines but love a brew 🤣

Please tell me they are at least using sugar-free syrups!

God, Americans and their addiction to sweet flavors really is something. They manage to have an even sweeter tooth than the British, which is saying something.

breathinbreathout · 08/01/2024 22:57

Squash really isn't a thing in the USA.
Although flavored iced coffee is massive as are Starbucks cold drinks.

breathinbreathout · 08/01/2024 22:59

Although don't be too critical of Americans not drinking tap water, we get free lead testing kits from the city because our pipes have so much lead in them.
I live in a large USA city not a backwater.

LevelBy · 09/01/2024 06:53

There are worse trends at least they're affordable

LevelBy · 09/01/2024 06:55

If I lived somewhere then I'd probably buy one because they keep water really cold and I love ice cold water on a hot day. Not much for one in the UK right now though

LevelBy · 09/01/2024 06:56

I had a look on Vinted after reading this thread and some were over £100 Confused

Nanaof1 · 09/01/2024 11:50

I would think a Stanley like this would be more usable.

Stanley

WotNoUserName · 09/01/2024 12:06

I have a Stanley knife. Are they trendy yet?

LadyWithLapdog · 10/01/2024 00:09

I’ve seen what looked like a SC dupe in Sainsburys tonight. I haven’t seen an original SC (to my knowledge). The dupe was hideous.
