Will Stanley cups become the next "must have" in the UK?

Somewhat lighthearted! Grin

So, on TikTok/ Instagram etc, it seems that pink Stanley cups are the next big accessory! I must admit, they do look very pretty!

Who's buying one for their spring wardrobe?

I don't see the point in a bulky inconvenient leaking flask? I'm happy with a leakproof £15 one.

Workingtomorrow · 07/01/2024 06:43

I don’t think so. A few women got them at work from partners at Christmas. They brought them to work and left them on their desk. They don’t use them as travel cups as they are so big.

and tbh on social media, they are becoming a thing of ridicule. Taking the piss out of fighting and arguing to get the valentines x Starbucks version, even though social media was full of ‘boycott Starbucks’ a month ago, is becoming a trend. Skits about how ridiculous women look taking one everywhere is a trend.

I think we will see more of them in the Uk but then it will die out.

I am talking about them from a social media trend perspective, as we are talking about trends. If you have one find it useful and like it, go for it. But buying one because it’s ‘on trend’ is probably not a great idea.

Workingtomorrow · 07/01/2024 06:43

Oh and yes, they aren’t leak proof apparently

I'm quite partial to an iced coffee I must admit.

Me too, and I distinctly remember drinking iced coffee in the long hot summer of 1976, so it’s not new.

Admittedly it wasn’t Starbucks, but mums home made mix of full fat milk, Camp “coffee” and ice cubes.

Mariposa85 · 07/01/2024 06:46

I was bought one as a gift, it leaks from the side even when the straw hole is fully closed. I emailed Stanley customer service about it (as the cups allegedly have a lifetime guarantee) and they said the cups are “splash proof not leak proof” so it’s normal that it will leak. It means I can’t carry it in a bag anywhere which seems ridiculous for such an expensive cup. Glad I didn’t buy it myself as it is crap. Why advertise that it has a fully closing lid if it leaks and they accept that it does?! Weird.

Guineapig123 · 07/01/2024 06:53

I’ve had mine for nearly a year. I keep it at work and fine it brilliant to make sure I drink loads of water as it I keeps it cool and I don’t have to go and fill it up all the time.

Bunnyannesummers · 06/01/2024 22:59

I love mine! My only complaint is it doesn’t fit in UK car cup holders so I had to get an adaptor

What adaptor did you get?

I'm waiting for them to come back in stock in the UK. Only one that seems to be available is a cream.

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 07/01/2024 07:04

I have to admit I’ve not heard of this. I have two Stanley flasks big and small and they are fab and completely leak proof.

I think this craze is really interesting 110 year old company, traditionally marketed to men / manual workers. Woman buys one in a nice colour sells out on her blog, convinces company to offer a greater variety of colours changing their target audience and bam took the company from $75 million to $750 million in sales in 12 months. I'm assuming the weird shape was because originally they were for long distance truckers to keep their drinks hot/cold on the road. Its like if suddenly Thermos offer flasks in sparkly pink - although I do own three in their red version.

Going viral is really weird, it's similar to when Spotify accidentally released 30 seconds of static as Taylor Swifts new song instead of the actual song and it went to number one.

Edited

This is interesting ^^ shows the power of influencers and social media. Influencers have always been a thing to some degree but the scale is insane now and concerning in some ways!

everygreensock · 07/01/2024 07:11

God I hope not. If so, we're doomed.

EasterIssland · 07/01/2024 07:22

As others have said they’re too big for my liking and if they’re not leak proof then they are crap 😂 but social media is powerful and will bring things to trend

God no all that straw sucking is a recipe for wrinkles. I'd rather smoke a fag 😂

🤣Laughed so much I woke the Whippet

I read that in Ab Fab Joanna Lumley voice !

RampantIvy · 07/01/2024 07:31

I had to Google this as I have never heard of them.

What is so special about them?

Haha! Made my chuckle

NeverStopTwinkling · 07/01/2024 07:36

I've never heard of them and hadn't really noticed them around. I'm obviously not very observant.

TK Maxx has a great selection of what I consider to be much more attractive coffee cups/water bottles. My newest one I bought myself for Christmas was £7.99 and it's lovely.

I don't have tik tok or Instagram or anything and I find the idea of influencers quite unnerving. People I've never heard of and don't care about, no qualifications, being paid, with hundreds of millions of followers listening to them. People on the ground in positions of 'power' without anything like the same reach. Makes me feel quite unsettled.

Jumpingpogosticks · 07/01/2024 07:46

Lol I thought I was the latest person on this trend!
I've had a knock off one for about 6 months. 1.2l of liquid, has really helped me to not be dehydrated. Keeps water cold and fresh tasting!
I see Starbucks has just released a pink Stanley (though unsure if it's the US/UK Starbucks who emailed me about it!)

Denimdenimdenim · 07/01/2024 07:52

My DH bought me a white coffee style one with no straw a few months ago. I wondered why so many people commented on how amazing it is. I had no idea this is the reason why 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are they these? If they are they are just incredibly ugly, tacky looking, plastic tat.

Oh, they’re truly horrible!

SD1978 · 07/01/2024 08:03

I think they look bloody awful- and don't understand the obsession of having to carry a water container big enough to cross a flipping dessert with, whilst living in a country with easy access to clean water everywhere....and if the straw is in....the lid isn't waterproof. So you're carrying a bloody big leaky cup around everywhere. And I'm probably 20yrs past the demographic that seems to be obsessing over this GrinGrin

Looks like a barbie doll accessory

dorry678 · 07/01/2024 08:10

People love to buy into a craze 😁 £40 for a water bottle!! Over years of many different bottles, honestly Sistema are imho the best. They never leak and you can squeeze them, so no sucking wrinkle marks. If I want it to be cold, I just freeze an inch of water in the bottom. I have two that are about ten years old now.

eatsleepfarmrepeat · 07/01/2024 08:16

Yeti are infinitely better quality.

I’m sure the cups in the playmobil camper used to look like this!

Loussa · 07/01/2024 08:18

American social media influencers have been going on about them for a while now. How a company has got people excited over an overpriced flask of all things is incredible.

Guess people really are sheep

And penicillin was discovered in 1928 so not a couple of generations ago.

My grandparents were born in the late 1910's, so yes, for lots of us, 1928 is definitely 2 generations ago!
