Christmas party dress - yay or nay?

Is this dress good for an office christmas party do you think? Then I've got some dinner parties to go to and I thought it would work for new years eve too. What do you think? Is it a bit much?

That's lovely

Stressedgiraffe · 26/10/2023 22:15

It's lovely. Monsoon have some lovely stuff.

Jewelspun · 26/10/2023 22:15

Depending on your figure and your general style it could look frumpy.

Jewelspun · 26/10/2023 22:18

I prefer this one -

I hate the look of the fabric and neck on that one. Sorry!

Oh dear! What do you mean frumpy? I'm late 30s and not very toned. Do you mean it might swamp me? Maybe I'll order two sizes

I really like it, it's pretty.

Poniesandrainbows · 26/10/2023 22:31

I think it's frumpy, sorry.

The one you picked is way nicer than the one suggested by Jewelspun. If your office party is dressed up for fun (rather than evening dressy)then your choice is a good one.

VisiblyNot25 · 26/10/2023 22:34

I like it & think it could look v elegant

lamalamalamasquirrel · 26/10/2023 22:37

Great thank you all so much! I just hope it fits now :)

What do you mean by frumpy please? Do you think the pattern is too much? That's what I was worried about. But it's so pretty!

I think it's borderline frumpy. Very safe neckline, very safe length, not modern in shape. I'm mid-40s and wouldn't wear it.

Surely everyone knows what frumpy means? Confused
Dowdy, old fashioned, along those lines.

Yes sorry, but just wondering what about it is making you think that.

Oh I think it’s absolutely gorgeous!! Sparkly and fun without being too much or inappropriate length or whatever for a work party. It’s beautiful! And not in the least bit frumpy…

Smileatthesmallthings · 26/10/2023 22:44

I think it would be lovely if it fits well, with some fabulous shoes. I'm late 30s too. My only reservation is the length as the model is 5'8 and being only 5'2 myself it would fall at a really weird length.

Thank you. Helps me know what to look out for when I try it on

What exactly is a "safe" neckline?

miniproblem · 26/10/2023 22:49

It could look nice but I don't really like the pattern and don't think it's very Christmassy if that's what you're going for.

Peggoty · 26/10/2023 22:49

It isn't frumpy. The one suggested by Jewelspun is.

2chocolateoranges · 26/10/2023 22:52

Im late 40s and I think it’s pretty dull and not very dressy for nights out.

not my style at all,

ActDottie · 26/10/2023 22:52

I don’t like the dress. But it’s not inappropriate for a work Christmas party.

I'm assuming they mean my boobs won't spill over or have a nip slip. Which to me is a plus.

I was looking more for something I could wear every time I go out to a do or dinner party so if it's not Christmassy that's good as NYE I'd feel a bit silly if it was Christmassy.
