Christmas party dress - yay or nay?

Is this dress good for an office christmas party do you think? Then I've got some dinner parties to go to and I thought it would work for new years eve too. What do you think? Is it a bit much?

That's beautiful. Gorgeous and I imagine it's comfortable too. Win win

PloddingAlong21 · 30/10/2023 22:50

I really dislike the fabric, unless you’re a bit hippy? In which case it’s just frumpy for someone in their 30’s.

Palindrone · 30/10/2023 23:46

Well, I think it's gorgeous and might well buy one myself.

My figure is nothing like the models and I find that shape really flattering - I own similar Monsoon dresses that I've worn for Christmas parties in previous years.

To me frumpy is wearing something that doesn't flatter your shape or suit style. Some of the short, bodycon dresses linked to in this thread would look hideous on me.

minipie · 31/10/2023 10:58

I like it. I would think of it more as a going to dinner dress than a party dress but then I like getting dressed up for parties. If you prefer safe and comfortable then it’s fine for a party. The second, shorter one is more partyish but probably less easy to wear as it’s a bit tighter and shorter.

WombatChocolate · 31/10/2023 16:01

I don’t know what these threads achieve. What someone considers frumpy and unstylish, other people think is fantastic and looks great.

People of all ages like different things and have different body shapes and different goals in the image they want to project. Some people want to be cutting-edge and some want to wear very safe clothing. They are never going to like or choose the same things.

Roxy69 · 31/10/2023 18:33

It's lovely but the shoes are actually deeply hideous.

lamalamalamasquirrel · 31/10/2023 18:38

It's here and I love it.

I shall go and be a festive frump.

Good for you OP. I think it is a lovely dress and I bet you look fabulous ⭐️

4kids2cats · 31/10/2023 19:25

Me too! I thought it was a beautiful dress and I hope you have many wonderful times in it. xxx

Peggoty · 31/10/2023 19:58

I thought it was very nice too.

IMarchToADifferentDrummer · 01/11/2023 00:42

Ooh! I think it's perfect!
For Christmas you could wear sparkly jewellery to go with it, and tone it down for the other do's.
Bling it up with a glittery gold belt, or leave it as it is!
Wear different shoes or/& wear a little bolero cardi with it, to keep chilly shoulders at bay. A proper sized cardi for the other times, or wear it without!

IMarchToADifferentDrummer · 01/11/2023 00:51

@GonnaGetGoingReturns
The first one, the teal, was lovely. The rest, well, OP is going to parties and such like, not spending her night times at work!!
Just my opinion, though!

IMarchToADifferentDrummer · 01/11/2023 00:57

@lamalamalamasquirrel
I think the purple/blue dress is really lovely. NOT at all dowdy!!
I'm not sure about the teal one you shared, but if you like it then try it as only you can tell!
If possible, you could push the sleeves up for one of the do's to make it seem like they're meant to be half length with like a peplum (is that the right word) shorter length sleeve! Kind of push it up so the cuff is just above, or below, your elbow and let the material hang loose, sort of doubling over itself! Yeah, I know, I'm not good at describing things. 🤣
At the party you could wear pretty hair jewels/clips to help do it up, but leave them at home for the meals!

mrlistersgelfbride · 01/11/2023 12:36

Gorgeous print, but I don't like the length or shape sorry.

Blah12345678999 · 03/11/2023 17:17

🎉 I bet you’ll look fab!! X

kurotora · 04/11/2023 12:41

I don't think you'll be a frump at all OP. Rock that dress!

Lilycar4 · 10/11/2023 23:38

Sorry for late reply to this thread but was thinking of buying this dress myself for an xmas party so just wanted to add that I think it’s gorgeous! I’m in my 20s & disagree w all the “frumpy” and “boring” comments! It’s zodiac print, so I can kind of understand the witchy and Harry Potter comments (but let’s be honest, Harry Potter is the dated reference here!) I would agree that it’s a more relaxed and bohemian style, but that works well for an office party!! The reason I like it is bc Christmas happens just after the winter solstice, by Christmas Day the light is already starting to come back and what better way to represent that than by wearing the starry night sky, light that guides even in the darkest and coldest of winter days. Even if this dress didn’t work for you, I hope you found something else and I hope you enjoy the party 🌟

cheleuh · 10/11/2023 23:40

It's beautiful!
