Christmas party dress - yay or nay?

Is this dress good for an office christmas party do you think? Then I've got some dinner parties to go to and I thought it would work for new years eve too. What do you think? Is it a bit much?

It's fine. If you like it, it should be enough. Monsoon is quite good. They've really raised their game.

miniproblem · 26/10/2023 22:58

@lamalamalamasquirrel I don't mean a dress that's a Christmas dress, just that it doesn't look like a party dress to me so not for NYE either.
As I say, it wouldn't be something I'd wear. The pattern is a bit Glastonbury town.

Lentilweaver · 26/10/2023 22:58

Not keen on the pattern. Reminds me of Harry Potter.

chocopuffs · 26/10/2023 23:00

I like @Jewelspun choice. It's more modern, the other dress feels a bit dull and dated. Hence the frumpy comments. I assumed @Jewelspun was just suggesting something else at Monsoon - it's hardly the height of fashion.

Seriously? The one Jewelspun suggested is boring.

What exactly is a "safe" neckline?

It's just a bit neither here nor there I suppose. It's not a high neck or low cut, it's just...there, being all boring and modest and not very party-ish 😁

Verite1 · 26/10/2023 23:05

Not really a fan. A bit meh really

MissingMoominMamma · 26/10/2023 23:06

It’s really lovely, and not at all frumpy!

MidnightMeltdown · 26/10/2023 23:07

It's not bad but I wouldn't choose it. I don't like the cut or the chiffon fabric.

DresdenDoll · 26/10/2023 23:09

I really like it

caringcarer · 26/10/2023 23:09

Jewelspun · 26/10/2023 22:18

That's lovely. Such pretty sleeves.

bellamountain · 26/10/2023 23:10

I think it's the cut? It looks shapeless and that's on a model! Warehouse have some lovely party dresses if you're looking at a boho vibe and they have a 40% sale on at the moment.

SarahAndQuack · 26/10/2023 23:10

To me, the print, the sleeve shape, the bow and the skirt shape make it look like the sort of nightie women used to wear in the 80s. The model looks delightful in it, but if you look properly, she looks lovely because she is pretty and slim with a face full of angles that contrast interestingly with the shapelessness of the dress. She'd look just as good in a sack. You look at any of those photos and crop out her face, and they say 'I just popped on my fluffy slippers to nip these leftover chips to the bin, tell your gran I said hello'.

Avatartar · 26/10/2023 23:12

I think it will either look gorgeous on you or dreadful with no in between

Isthisit22 · 26/10/2023 23:12

Very frumpy. Shapeless and twee pattern

MidnightMeltdown · 26/10/2023 23:13

It think it's the empire line cut that makes it look a bit frumpy. That, combined with the sparkly chiffon, makes me think 'older lady on a cruise'

coloursquare · 26/10/2023 23:18

I think it would make most people look way bigger than they are. It's too billowy.

ReginaPerrin · 26/10/2023 23:28

I like the sleeves, neckline and pattern on the dress but I’m not blown away by the length and frilly bit at the bottom. But if you like it, go for it! Particularly if you think you’d get quite a few wears out of it.

Peggoty · 26/10/2023 23:28

caringcarer · 26/10/2023 23:09

That's lovely. Such pretty sleeves.

It looks like the fabric on cheap furniture from the 1970s. It's horrible.

mathanxiety · 26/10/2023 23:36

@Jewelspun
That's a truly gorgeous dress!

WhichEllie · 27/10/2023 00:50

I agree that it’s frumpy. The overall shape, plus sleeves and hemline all come across as frumpy to me.

I also dislike the pattern, though I know that’s more subjective. I’d worry that anyone wearing a print like that would be trying to sell me crystals or essential oils on the side. 😂

threecupsofteaminimum · 27/10/2023 00:57

Harry Potter 😂😂😂

lokimoki · 27/10/2023 00:59

I'm sorry but it's the fugliest thing I've ever seen in a while! You could do so much better.

kkneat · 27/10/2023 01:08

I really don’t like it, think for me it’s the pattern, which to me looks like something a child would wear to dress up. It is definitely frumpy and twee.
if you like Monsoon (which I do) how about this one

But I’d change the buttons to a different shape
