Christmas party dress - yay or nay?

Is this dress good for an office christmas party do you think? Then I've got some dinner parties to go to and I thought it would work for new years eve too. What do you think? Is it a bit much?

Indeed that looks nothing like the 1970s velour upholstery dress.

Apart from the cut, shape and sleeve style. Inspired by / a derivative of / watered down cheaper version.

I see it as the ‘cerulean blue’ of a Vampires Wife dress. If you don’t, that’s cool.

Here are some others from Monsoon that you might like (if the one you've ordered turns out not to be the one for you).

It's the same as the neckline @HeadNorth

It looks like they want to ship it to as many people as possible so studiously avoided making any design choices.

It's all designed not to put anyone off, not to make anyone stand out, to feel safe as an option because it is safe; nobody will do a double take at you but guarantee nobody will notice it either.

That's great! That's what I need. Thank you. I just need to fit in not stand out.

I love it and if it suits your personality and style think it could look great. Just be careful how you style it or it will look like a book day costume for Mrs Frizzle from the Magic School bus.

Well then happy days @lamalamalamasquirrel hope it fits well when it arrives!

notforonesecond · 27/10/2023 10:02

The pattern looks like a Halloween cape I had in the 90s.

Looks nothing like that. Why so rude?

Almost all the Monsoon dresses linked here I don’t like at all.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 27/10/2023 10:14

not saying I love all of these but they’re better!

I’m eye-rolling at all these ‘fashionista’ posters who think they’re so much cooler than OP with their alternative suggestions & bitchy comments 🙄

Nowtbettertodo · 27/10/2023 10:23

Wear what you want. Some people on here are so rude! Not everyone has the same style but there is no need to take the piss if you don't like something.

ItsmeImtheproblem200 · 27/10/2023 10:27

It’s appropriate for a woman in her 60s. I’m 34, I wouldn’t wear it.

That’s a very ‘stand out’ dress.

That's incredibly ageist

All too short or velvet from my quick scroll.

It is quite 90s. I'll give you that. But 90s are in and I love it. I was just wondering if it was "too much" for all these events. But seems a lot of people think it's frumpy so I guess that means it's not

OP posts:
WeighDownOnMeStayTillMorning · 27/10/2023 10:32

It's not ageist to say a particular dress or style is maybe more suited or targeted to a demographic. You did ask for opinions!

Thats not what they said they said it was "appropriate" implying only that age group should wear it

OP posts:
WeighDownOnMeStayTillMorning · 27/10/2023 10:33

Oh yes it does have 90s vibes actually! I'd maybe have worn it with knee high boots back then.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/10/2023 10:33

Lovely. Would give the shoes a miss though.

Spirro · 27/10/2023 10:34

How old are you? It’s a bit frumpy. Im mid 40s and wouldn’t wear that. It’s the sort of thing my mum (mid 60s) would wear.

lamalamalamasquirrel · 27/10/2023 10:35

Right I'm not looking at this thread anymore. It's just a load of people laughing at it or being ageist.

OP posts:
Shadesofmediocrity · 27/10/2023 10:50

I don't get the hate for the dress. I like it and I'm sure you'll look lovely in it. You've already said you're not particularly confident with your figure so you need to wear something that you feel will be flattering and appropriate for your figure, there's no point wearing something more cutting edge if you'll look uncomfortable and self-conscious all night.

I like your original dress more than any other Monsoon dress that other posters have suggested, I think your dress is the least frumpy of all the options. I'd probably wear it and I'm 32.

luxuryinteriors · 27/10/2023 10:54

Not keen, a bit meh.

ThirdDressStress · 27/10/2023 10:58

kkneat · 27/10/2023 01:08

I really don’t like it, think for me it’s the pattern, which to me looks like something a child would wear to dress up. It is definitely frumpy and twee.
if you like Monsoon (which I do) how about this one
