And I will email the thread to a few companies and see if they will do something about it.

There are threads about this so often that there is clearly a market for it.

All suggestions gratefully welcomed.

So, I will start

I think that something in a smartish waterproof but breathable fabric (must be washable) with the following;

Style - A choice of plain straight, belted straight or A-line.

Colours - Black, Brown, Navy, Biscuit, Cream. Also seasonal colours would be good I guess.

Hood - Option of detatchable or not

Lining - zip out washable padded lining so you can wear on the tube to work without sweltering and zip it in when you go out in the cold. Choice of plain or patterned would be ideal.

Pockets - decent sized with a closing flap thing to fill with tissues and random crap

Mid thigh length so that it doesn't drag on the ground if you need to squat to deal with children, dogs, etc.

Ability to tighten hood so that it doesn't blow off in a high wind - so many hoods are rather capacious but disappear behind you at the slightest puff.

CountessDracula · 18/01/2008 10:07

Yes good one

iPod pocket would be good too

I would second not tight under the arms and not too fitted generally. Too many coats are alright in the body but too tight in the arms. Not good when you are at the park reaching up to pluck a child from the climbing frame.

Hood not to huge - hate hoods that fall over your eyes all the time.

Compromise on the belt - some sort of drawstring in the middle.

If you could get it sorted within the next couple of weeks that would be great - I can't find anything I like that is affordable and not frumpy.

Fab idea. (This thread, not cocaine pouch)
Basically it needs to perform like a proper waterproof berghaus type thing but look cool and feminine. Proper breathable fabric a good start. The shape is the most important thing - semi-fitted?

I would like a nice green (ie vibrant foresty green, not barbour or khaki)

(My trespass jacket has an inside "comms pouch" for mobile - it actually says "comms pouch" on it in Tron-like font. Makes me feel like Jack Bauer)

doggiesayswoof · 18/01/2008 10:15

lol at gavel pouch

Buda · 18/01/2008 10:16

And decent sizing - not stopping at size 16 for all you skinny minnies!

onebatmother · 18/01/2008 10:19

like boden but less bloody bodenlike

snowleopard · 18/01/2008 10:21

Please ask them to put long arms on it too. maybe cuffs that can be unfolded out to give more length so that it fits long and short-armed people.

And make the hood BIG ENOUGH not a token hood that hardly covers the back of my head.

And sew the buttons/zip on properly as I do actually intend to USE THEM

Thanks.
