And I will email the thread to a few companies and see if they will do something about it.

There are threads about this so often that there is clearly a market for it.

All suggestions gratefully welcomed.

So, I will start

I think that something in a smartish waterproof but breathable fabric (must be washable) with the following;

Style - A choice of plain straight, belted straight or A-line.

Colours - Black, Brown, Navy, Biscuit, Cream. Also seasonal colours would be good I guess.

Hood - Option of detatchable or not

Lining - zip out washable padded lining so you can wear on the tube to work without sweltering and zip it in when you go out in the cold. Choice of plain or patterned would be ideal.

Pockets - decent sized with a closing flap thing to fill with tissues and random crap

yy to hood that does not blow off as soon as you start walking

perhaps a drawstring around the waist that you adjust inside the coat so you don't have unneccesary dangly bits on the outside?

onebatmother · 18/01/2008 10:26

And with a hood that's not so stiff that if you turn to chat to someone at the side, your coat is still staring rudely ahead.

LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 18/01/2008 10:27

Yes, long arms, may be with a turn up option for shorter armed people, so when you are pushing s buggy in s hurricane, you don't lose feeling in your bright red rain battered hands/wrists.

TigerFeet · 18/01/2008 10:31

the detatchable lining could perhaps be worn as a fleece in its own right?

snowleopard · 18/01/2008 10:36

Yes! MY DS has the perfect raincoat that has a big hood, long arms, drawstrings, detatchable fleece liner that you can wear on its own. It's made by Gelert. I think what we need is mountaineering/outdoor coat features and technology, combined with funky design that women would actually not mind being seen in. There's such a gap between outdoor-type manufacturers who have no clue about appearance, and fashion manufacturers who forget that it does actually get cold and rain. Maybe they need to team up.

ahundredtimes · 18/01/2008 10:42

Yes it is all about the shape isn't it? Nothing too boxy and big which rustles all the time. Thin and straight, with decent pockets and warmth, the main thing is you want to wear it without having to look like a post-box.

Can it come in black too? With a bright lining?

CountessDracula · 18/01/2008 10:42

Lots of good ideas here

I hope they listen!

dd has this and I would happily wear an adult version it is so versatile

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 18/01/2008 10:47

dd's coat has a detatchable hood and gilet - I think it is fab (other than the fact it is bright pink and I would rather be soaking wet and freezing than wear a bright pink coat)

onebatmother · 18/01/2008 10:49

I need some brightness otherwise I feel as grey as the day.

ahundredtimes · 18/01/2008 10:51

I'd prefer a coat that had style over fun though. Basically it needs to come in a range, from black to feminine doesn't it.

Also length. I think it needs to be mid-thigh or even a bit longer.

CountessDracula · 18/01/2008 10:52

Yes I would think just above the knee

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 18/01/2008 10:55

it would have to be something I could wear to work otherwise it wouldnt' be worth me forking out the £££

I don't have to look like an undertaker but swirly whirly patterns wouldn't cut it!

definitely need a good range of colours

Mid thigh for length.

Can the range include waterproof trousers too?

tictacto · 18/01/2008 10:58

I have this and it is amazing, waterproof and looks great with everything.

looks crap on her though

CountessDracula · 18/01/2008 10:59

YY but it has no HOOD!

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 18/01/2008 10:59

no hood though tictacto

saadia · 18/01/2008 11:00

what a great thread, hopefully I will soon be able to ditch my M&S anorak that I have seen on a lot of old ladies lately. Could we have it in petite sizes too for the not so tall.

tictacto · 18/01/2008 11:04

Yes it does a mahoosive one. you can't see it on pic. I covered my freshly washed and dried hair with it this morning.

finknottle · 18/01/2008 11:05

Zip pockets better than flap and poppers imo. Less bulky.
Also choice of length - if you cycle you need longer. Also more flattering and less anorak-y.

Yes to zipped in/out padded lining/gilet.
Drawstring/cord on hood for wind.

CountessDracula · 18/01/2008 11:06

ah how odd
it doesn't say so
don't really like the look of it personally
Is it truly waterproof and breathable?

OP posts:
tictacto · 18/01/2008 11:09

I agree it looks really fugly on gorgeous model. I go out in more than just a shower doing the school run and I've yet to get saoked, the cuffs are tight too so no leaky bits there, it looks quite shiney but in RL it's more like a Barbour-ish finish.

tictacto · 18/01/2008 11:10

This was gorgeous too (how odd that the models look worse in the clothing than normal girls) but I didn't want something as short.

Shame such a dull colour tho
coat

TigerFeet · 18/01/2008 11:14

I'm not really after something with such a parka-ish design. I would prefer something a bit more tailored for this particualr project!

Maybe I should find a designer and do it myself?

Any fashion designers on MN?

OP posts:
tictacto · 18/01/2008 11:16

What about Barbour weren't they designing things a bit "more on trend" lately.
Hhaha have always wanted to say thank pantsy phrase.

Oh I've come over all Mark Hayes
