And I will email the thread to a few companies and see if they will do something about it.

There are threads about this so often that there is clearly a market for it.

All suggestions gratefully welcomed.

So, I will start

I think that something in a smartish waterproof but breathable fabric (must be washable) with the following;

Style - A choice of plain straight, belted straight or A-line.

Colours - Black, Brown, Navy, Biscuit, Cream. Also seasonal colours would be good I guess.

Hood - Option of detatchable or not

Lining - zip out washable padded lining so you can wear on the tube to work without sweltering and zip it in when you go out in the cold. Choice of plain or patterned would be ideal.

Pockets - decent sized with a closing flap thing to fill with tissues and random crap

I haven't read all of this - but it needs a decent hood that covers all of your head, not one that leaves your fringe sticking out so you look like a pampered poodle with a top knot (.... maybe that's just me )

However, hood that is soooo large that it has the same effect as blinkers is NOT good

Whizzz · 18/01/2008 19:30

LOL I like the Lady Coat - the lady skirt made me laugh, so do they have a man skirt too??

MrsCarrot · 18/01/2008 19:30

Cremolafoam · 18/01/2008 19:54

GOOD FOR YOU, CD.

You may remember that as part of one of the many 'hooded mac' threads I contacted Boden 3 years ago, to no avail, but we should definitely keep up the pressure. Ridiculous, it feels like a political campaign.

There are nice woollen hooded coats out there - I currently have a lovely grey TopShop one (not unlike this, but with more of a puffball type shape to the 'skirt' bit), and just put up (rather grimly) with it getting soaked through in the rain.

For example, this or this in waterproof material would be good.

My requirements:
Definitely NO FUR round the hood
Not too short (probably mid-thigh is best)
Bright as well as neutral colours
No silly patterns (Boden please note)
Not parka-style
Not remotely hillwalking style
Adjustable hood

Agree with you about the Muddy Puddles one you linked to, CD - what I fantasise about is basically a bright and rather glamorous 1960s style mac, probably a-line, and your DD's fits the bill. In fact there are lots of girls' styles that could be copied - I even envy DD1's, in spite of the pattern

MrsBadger · 18/01/2008 20:33

NB the Elfin No Wind is a nice shape but it is fleece and Not Waterproof

franch · 18/01/2008 20:34

Not gimpy AT ALL. (Don't neglect to scroll down.)

princessmel · 18/01/2008 20:35

Thank goodness

princessmel · 18/01/2008 20:36

Oh foul!!!

I'm loving that GIMP/GIMPY is catching on .

OverMyDeadBody · 18/01/2008 20:37

Oh I'm a tad disappointed to be honest, I thought the OP was going to start manufacuting stylish macs herself!

CountessDracula · 18/01/2008 23:46

Well I am considering it

I need a designer though

You'll be saying gimp soon too Cod. Its the new word!!

Cremolafoam · 22/01/2008 10:51

CD have you made a definitive list at all?
thought i would bump in case anyone missed this thread.

Nbg · 22/01/2008 10:56

Why havent I seen this thread before!

My requirements, although they have probably already been suggested, are;

Plain, not printed patterns
Pockets at the bottom, not on chest
Different colours
And is reasonably priced.

And yes, what is it with the word Gimp? My dh has started saying it.

hatwoman · 22/01/2008 11:01

hate to say it (having given Boden quite a slating recently and being in general of the opinion it's gone a bit crap) but isn't this what you're after? not so sure about the print nor the colours but the basic idea is good no?
