Maybe it's two trapeziums but it's so badly fitting (the model's arms are pushing down the pouffe at the side to make it halfway decent) I'm convinced it's just two rectangles as there's so much badly fitting excess fabric. It just looks to be a bit wider than the absolute minimum width it would be with a high street chain.

The belted big waist on jeans seems to be to imitate a pear shaped figure, Shangpie. Never thought I'd see the day people actively trying to look like they have massive thighs 🤷

Great find in the blazer Flo, and the men's scarf/tie.

@botemp my hair is still great! I will not
cut for at a while to see how it pans out! I did out a little colour in it to break the nun like grey. and it worked.

Love the jacket @Flo and great idea re the socks!

@ShangPie - I would love to go to china. Only made it to Hong Kong.

It is nice to post @red but I learn so much from reading.

@microbius was there anything unclear about the unanimous response on the yellow skirt?😁However, it does remind me of a Ghost skirt I had years ago BUT that skirt was cut on the bias so the hang was great and it waved around the knees. There was also a nice weight in the fabric. (my slim youth).

Floisme · 02/02/2023 15:59

Ah I had a couple of those Ghost skirts, absolutely adored them. They felt so glamorous and yet they also machine washed, didn't need ironing and if you were going away you could screw it up into a ball, throw it into your bag and then give it a shake and you were ready to go out. It was a very happy time and I honestly thought I'd wear them forever, and then Trinny and bloody Susannah pointed out (correctly to be fair) that bias cut was pitiless on the thighs and after that I could never un-see it. Sad

EffortlessDesmond · 02/02/2023 16:31

Justasec, today's radio 4 noon news said HK was giving away 500,000 free tickets to revive tourism. No advice on how to apply though!

Flo I nearly bought a bias-cut silk Ghost dress in Selfridges sale, but it was in my top heavy days and there would have been no room for the civil engineering.

Justasec321 · 03/02/2023 01:55

I used to look great Ghost and bias cut. @Floisme I loved those skirts too- so comfy and good with a sneaker or a heel.

I am so MATRONLY now, a flat wide backside, big thighs, and a large bosom! I was wondering the other day how I stayed so slim. Well, a song came on the radio and I remembered -I used to DANCE all night almost every night. 😁😀

@EffortlessDesmond you have taken my breath away!

botemp · 03/02/2023 08:48

Sheesh Flo, any mentions of thighs really are your kryptonite. I'll never dare mention them for fear you'll hide them away under a table again 😱 not sure what Trinny and Susannah were on about being anti-bias cut 🧐

(China is great to visit but I'd go to South Korea over China for a proper marvelling experience. Never been to Hong Kong though.)

Update on HK ticketing freebie, according to the Times. The three HK based airlines are participating, and the word is that it will either be "a buy one, get the second free" or a lottery lucky dip, so that anyone buying a ticket, might get it free when they push the pay button.

Floisme · 03/02/2023 10:03

Ha ha you're spot on bo but it's very hard to think yourself out if that mindset. It was one reason why I turned against the idea of dressing for your shape - I decided it just encouraged us to be self critical and most of us don't need encouraging.

That Hong Kong deal has reminded me of the free flight to New York offer that nearly bankrupted Hoover in the 90s.

ShangPie · 03/02/2023 22:28

According to Cathay Pacific, the free tickets are coming in three regional tranches, with long haul tickets coming out in May. No idea how it’ll work in practice, but a free ticket would be very nice indeed!

Risking a Russian bot onslaught kicking from bani here by daring to propose a boot for her endless quest, but I spotted these and my first thought was to come here and suggest them. No idea if they are in any way suitable, but I humbly suggest they may just be sturdy enough, long enough, stretchy enough and not-plain-but-not-showy enough.

Written the word enough enough

enough

Lovely boots! I am waiting for the return of boots with zips. I am eyeing Aeyde but I think I'll wait for a trip to Berlin. I laughed so hard to the reaction to the yellow skirt. Must try harder with dream wardrobe 😂

Maybe it could go with the dream of the free ticket to HK. Flo's new blazer would work well in HK!

Redandblue11 · 04/02/2023 22:25

I missed Flo s blazer and think is a great purchase. Very you Flo, I can definitely you wearing it.

I like the trousers too shangpie. my cos wide legged one unfortunately are tad on the uncomfortable side on my waist which is a pain as I really like them.

This is the Dries blazer, but is size 42 which is probably a bit big for me unfortunately. I believe it will be an equivalent size 12.

A 42 is closer to a UK 14, I think. Must admit as nice as it is I was expecting something more Driesian (it's a word, I've decided) than that, Red.

If the Hong Kong tourist board is lurking, I'm sure we'd all love free tickets to Hong Kong for a meetup <bats lashes> (Flo will expire from the heat in her jacket though, only suitable on the plane).

OP posts:
botemp · 05/02/2023 15:22

*Flo's blazer, but it would be a men's jacket in tailoring jargon <urgh>

OP posts:
microbius · 07/02/2023 10:04

A meetup in Hong Kong would be great! We could review the fashion landscapes of HK (bats lashes too).

Red, I am so sorry that jacket hasn't worked out. I have a long list of expensive eBay buys (and also some charity shops) that I go through mentally in moments of shame. And then try to forget. I think it's the imagination that's the problem; I just imagine very colourfully how nicely something could fit and work in my wardrobe. Of course the item has no obligation to fit with your imagination 😂

My latest wild buy is Isabel Marant's bag on eBay. New black suede basko bag. Very plain how I like, spacious, ideal everyday bag for going around the city, with soft rounded and slouchy silhouette. And I will make peace with suede becoming worn. That's the current magic horizon as I am expecting its arrival. Might all come crashing down

Sooverthemill · 07/02/2023 17:19

@botemp I wanted to let you know that we had a lovely break in Paris last week. Almost nothing went as we had planned ( the general strike was fun) but we still enjoyed it very much. We ate at a neighbourhood bistro on night one (because it was heaving and clearly very popular and the food was great), a restaurant called Fulgurances on the second night which has a guest chef for six months at a time. The 8 course menu degustation was superb and the atmosphere delightful. Our final night we had booked a classical concert in a church in the 7th and just walked into Brasserie Balzac which was as ever busy and decent enough food on a bloody cold night. I looked in a lot of windows at gorgeous clothes and homewards and drank a lot of mint tea. Otherwise we wandered around and visited a few museums And generally enjoyed being away. It was lovely and I'm determined to return as soon as possible ( maybe when it's warmer!).

thank you so much for all your tips especially about pastries!

botemp · 07/02/2023 18:46

Good to hear you had a good time @Sooverthemill, I did wonder if you were there during the strikes Sad I'm taking note of Fulgurances if I haven't already. It's reminding me of an amazing roof top bar in the 11th that aside from the amazing view also has a rotation of guest chefs. A little less fancy than 8 course tasting menus and more experimental sharing plates type stuff. But that's more of a nice weather recommendation.

How much bread did you end up bringing back for DS and what pastries did you end up eating?

Morning mes amies!

I just wanted to pop by and share these virtual workshops that Toast are hosting this month. I know some of their clothes can be a bit ‘shipwrecked Amish widow’ but they have a great approach to repairing and reusing clothes

micro, pic of the new bag when it arrives!

Shipwrecked Amish widow 😂

botemp · 09/02/2023 17:22

I have a shocking confession, I've never actually looked at Toast 😱 I just know of it from chatter on here and I assume I'll just be disappointed when there's no shipwrecked Amish widows to be found ☹️ I do enjoy a bit of mending so I'll finally venture onto their site...

Can someone start me a Politician Style thread, I have opinions on Roberta Metsola's Dior Bar jacket that she was wearing today. (Don't anybody actually start that thread it'll be a shit show in seconds, MN seems to be very easily swept up into madness ATM, is it school holidays?)

(Sorry seemed to be locked out - every time I tried to write a post it disappeared so I retired in a huff. Nth time lucky!)

Is this the white jacket she wore to meet President Zelensky? (Lights touchpaper for bo and runs away…)

flo if this post succeeds I was hoping/posting weeks ago that you would post a photo of your frock coat (v much liked the blazer).

Floisme · 10/02/2023 09:59

Ooherr sorry mm47can you remind me some more about the frock coat cos my mind has gone blank. Blush And sympathies - I'm still having trouble posting too!

Right I'm off to Google image Roberta Metsola. J'adire the Dior Bar jacket so if she's murdered it there's going to be trouble.

Floisme · 10/02/2023 10:00

Fucks sake.
J'adore the Dior etc. etc

botemp · 10/02/2023 10:23

Yy, the white blazer/jacket. Murdering is a strong word, it doesn't look that bad but the fit is awful. Think she earns a fair bit in her position (tax free as well) but probably not enough for it to be couture. So I can't make up my mind who to point the finger at, did she go to a Dior boutique and did the staff say, yes, it's totally supposed to have your shoulders poke out past the shoulder pads and your bust point to hover somewhere vaguely in the vicinity of your breasts pointing like that or did she just order it online and thought, hey that fits 🤷

And look away now, I'm about to mention the M-word, when Meghan Markle had some actual Dior Couture on (well assumed to be couture or at the very least made to measure), it also fitted like shit and it was enough to get commented on this thread about when we all know what a bit of a whiff of Royal gossip does to Flo. Similar body type so similar fit issues, but wtf is happening at Dior to just turn a blind eye to it.

OP posts:
botemp · 10/02/2023 10:32

Pictures to go with my tirade, it looked worse in video than still images but I've also come to the unfortunate conclusion this is on Roberta Metsola (yes, yes, shouldn't be going after female politicians for their wardrobe choices, bla, blah, mea culpa and all that) but she appears to buy blazers that are too tight on her shoulders more than once that makes the shoulders poke out and the whole jacket/blazer sit higher than intended... Bah, I just wanted a moan about Dior, not the women that wore it.

Totally forgot I came bearing monumental news before mm47 set things on fire.

Phoebe Philo will launch her line in September, and she's just launched her Insta account for those interested in that. It'll be a digital brand, whatever that may mean. I assume just sold online and no shows 🤷 there'll probably be more to it than that. I could see here doing something like the Alohas model where you essentially preorder and things don't go into production until enough orders are in. Some sort of direct to consumer, quality and sustainability marry up anyhow.

Also, Demna Gvasalia did an interview with Vogue about the Balenciaga drama, but I've yet to read it.
