We always look bo... just in case! I'm still waiting for them to bring back my favourite long sleeved henley T shirts.

Floisme · 15/02/2023 16:28

Thanks bo, even though I usually end up disappointed there are still a couple of things I like. Going to sleep on it - will post tomorrow.

mm47 · 15/02/2023 18:48

It’s thanks to les Parisiennes thread that I’ve got a really nice Uniqlo +J gilet so I know it’s always worth checking (I realise this is +U not +J but U never know!) - thanks bo

botemp · 15/02/2023 18:51

At least the Uniqlo U collection always deliver on weird terminology discussions. This season's entry seems to be joggers that are so not joggers 😂 I do sort of like them though, just not bowled over by the colours.

I also like the ‘joggers’ but also a bit meh about the colours.
the colour that excites me is the orange of that cotton belted dress, but cannot decide if the fit will be awful or loose will look good.
But I never found anything worth keeping in the past from this collection.

Floisme · 16/02/2023 08:38

God Dammit. I wanted the joggers but everything that could have gone wrong went wrong: I had a terrible night's sleep and woke up late. The size I was after had already gone but I sized up, got to the checkout and lost more time when I tried to select a pickup point which doesn't seem to exist any more. I knew when I hit 'Pay' that it was going to be too late.

I'm looking to replace some favourite but ageing Toast trousers and although these weren't really similar and won't have been as well made, I thought they had that same cool but very wearable vibe.

So now I'm sleep deprived and in a thoroughly bad mood.

I used to be good at grab n' dash

botemp · 16/02/2023 08:49

Poor you Flo, but did you look at the stylehint section below. I don't think you're missing out 🤐 and likely the sizing is shit if she's wearing a 24, so expect lots of returns and size down if you insist on trying on the disappointment.

Ha ha yeah, though whatever I wear today will have to be accessorised with a large espresso so they got that bit right.

You are correct, there are always returns - which I normally end up sending back, remember the +J funny trousers, what were they called? (Sleep deprivation, see?)

I quite like that long trench coat too. Silly overlong sleeves and I wouldn't go for it as I've still got that midi Burberry but look, look a hood! How come it takes a French designer to notice that it rains a lot in the UK?

I do always like this range and it's a shame the execution rarely lives up to the design, but then if it did, the prices would be out of my league.

botemp · 16/02/2023 09:07

The Gaucho trousers that were quickly renamed culottes (they were neither) or was it the baker trousers that were also renamed culottes (they were not culottes) Confused

OP posts:
Floisme · 16/02/2023 15:49

Gauchos, that was it! Clever shape but droopy fabric.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 17/02/2023 07:46

I popped into Joseph yesterday looking for a skirt, and popped out again with these trousers:

https://www.joseph-fashion.com/en-gb/toile-stretch-bing-court-trousers-jp0014301460.html#intid=HPP_CB1&prefn1=refinementCategory&prefv1=Trousers&prefn2=refinementColor&prefv2=Blue&start=1

Such a lovely colour that is almost a neutral, it goes with so many colours. I like neat clothes and love the stretchy gabardine that Joseph uses for those, and most of their summer trousers - I've had a number of pairs over very many years and the fabric just lasts and lasts and always looks crisp.

There was an Italian woman in there buying the perfect leather jacket. Oh my it was gorgeous but they only had 1 left.

Plus I'm not sure I'd get £1,600 wear out of it. I still have a beautiful, largely unworn, suede jacket in the loft from 1993 in the attic.

botemp · 17/02/2023 09:43

It's nice to see that powder blue again Poppy. I have a love hate relationship with pastels. It suits me and boutique assistants are always eager to sell me some but it just feels to nicey nice to me, although it does wake up a bit with some bright colours or if it's a sculptural/tailored architectural thing.

I had the same conundrum over a perfect shearling coat (might have a picture somewhere), it was lovely and on sale at 50% off a really good deal but with the weather as it is, it would never get worn so I had to leave it behind <sniff> Sad

Yes, the droopy gauchos, I had warned you Flo but you just had to see it for yourself. And I assume you'll ignore my warning this time again 😜

botemp · 17/02/2023 09:44

*so nicey nice on me- before any pastel fiend is offended.

Google the photos of the mourners at Vivienne Westwood's funeral yesterday for a feast. A massive turnout of Planet Fashion's great and good, and some magnificent outfits for us all to admire.

EffortlessDesmond · 17/02/2023 13:18

It's in the Times and Telegraph, but behind the damned paywalls.

Sooverthemill · 17/02/2023 13:27

Vogue uk has photos. Free. Richard E Grant looked fab. But they all did

Floisme · 17/02/2023 13:40

Thanks MmePoppy, what a great send off for her - some people I've not seen in ages (Bianca Jagger!). Poor Andreas looks sad and tired.

And fab trousers, I do like Joseph tailoring and the powder blue is lovely. I had a look at some of the other colours too and I love that pale aubergine (think it's called truffle) and tangerine.

Will this work.?

Floisme · 17/02/2023 14:01

It doesn't work for me unfortunately Desmond but thanks! I used to have one of those accounts with them where you could read a few articles a month but it seems to have expired.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 17/02/2023 14:17

Flo all the colours in Joseph this year are beautiful - subtle and sophisticated. Last year's weren't so good, but this, I could have bought any of them.

Floisme · 17/02/2023 14:48

I've never associated them with colour MmePoppy although admittedly I only really come across then when the local dress agency has something of theirs. Have they got a new designer / creative lead?

MmePoppySeedDefage · 17/02/2023 17:47

I don't know who does the designing. I've been buying Joseph for years and to be honest it doesn't really change – really useful classics, with well-cut and flattering trousers and things to go with. Usually in very good colours. Quite a lot of expensive-looking pale colours but usually deeper colours too.

I had a pair of deep royal blue trousers that I absolutely loved and got such a lot of wear out of in their cotton gabardine. I took them to the charity shop because I got bored, not because they were looking shabby, though they were 10 years old, and I'd worn them heaps. I regret taking them now, and also regret taking the wide-leg stone colour poplin ones I also got bored with...

Floisme · 17/02/2023 18:12

Yes you're right, the clothes haven't really changed, it's the colour that makes them look so different. Maybe that's the way I need to go, instead of endlessly casting around for interesting trousers.

EffortlessDesmond · 17/02/2023 20:32

I am not sure there's a Designer at work. Joseph seem to rework classic shapes, shorter, longer, wider, narrower, altering the proportions and hemlines, and you/we buy the elements that work for our body shape in the colours that work or flatter. It's a masterclass in styling and shading, because almost every basic is present every single season, and it's well cut and made from very good quality fabric. So it is almost always classic but nods to the moment. All the same reasons I like Annette Gortz, which has a similar attitude.
