I've fallen behind again....Xing I'd been wondering how you were getting on, hope they can sort you out.

70sDuvet frozen shoulders are so painful, I can remember lying in the bath for hours on end because that was the only thing that worked. Wish I had some more practical advice. Those Next boots look good to me. And I'm so impressed at only buying second hand for a year. I've sometimes thought about making that a new year resolution but forbidding myself something is a surefire way to make me obsess about it and it would end badly.

Elle my dream day is a window table and a good book in a left bank cafe. And I know the left bank is all designer shops now and that people watching isn't the same with masks but I'm still Envy

Oi bo where's this coat?

botemp · 07/12/2021 09:41

Good to hear you've gone out and had an exhilarating time duvet. Did you try on the Next boots? I'm only asking because my BV lookalikes are a pain to get on and I think I'd struggle to get in them with frozen shoulders. Might just be down to me and my high arches but I've always assumed it's the combination of the leather being on the stiffer side and the narrow ankle where the elastic has to do all the work.

I've only seen two narrower ankle types, one at Zara in Khaki with a slightly different design. I've attached a picture because linking to Zara always goes wrong with regions, product code is 1176 810 1-032, if you stick that in the search they'll come up.

I've also seen some at vagabond which are really narrow because they're stretch leather at the top, I'm linking to the tall version because they better show the stretch leather downside, but that doesn't bother everyone but IME if you have skinny ankles and/or calves those stretch ones can look a bit baggy. But I know you initially wanted the tall lug boots from BV and these are quite similar and the stretch leather would be a lot easier to get on.

My coat only despatched yesterday Flo, but I've attached some pics.

Speaking of coats and Zara though, they've not got another really interesting Collab with South Korean brand Ader Error and I'm in love with all the coats, I'm seriously contemplating a double puffer coat in a caramelly brown cognac colour which is one my favourite coat colours. I've always like the AE brand but being South Korean the fits aren't that great for me but the coats are oversized enough. I'm going to se if I can see it in the shop.

Thanks bo the vagabond ones you linked I think are too wide. My calves are 11", possibly less after no exercise for weeks those appear to have a shaft of around 13", its impossible.
I used to pad my legs as a teenager Blush; I don't think I can be bothered/realise how shite it looked now.

The ones I tried on were my size though were a bit big so were easy to get on, I would probably need to go down a size which would possibly make them impossible to get on pain-free Angry

Ah i"ll maybe just wait until this whole situation is over. Though there's nothing like a pair of shoes to make you get well.
Years ago I was very ill in hospital, and was due to spend a lot of time in a wheelchair. My mum immediately went to town and bought me a pair of shoes I'd been admiring in a magazine. Red, platform, peeptoe leather heels (it was the 90s)
And they sat on my hospital locker, or I wore them in bed or while being pushed around the hospital and then eventually on many many nights out.

Will impatiently wait for white coat pictures Grin

Floisme · 07/12/2021 14:42

Thanks for the coat pics bo - hope the real thing looks as good.

The Zara/Ader Error collab doesn't seem to be available in the UK but I think I've seen a pic of the cognac coat - promising but, as you say, where to start with sizing? I also read the blurb about buying digital versions of the clothes for your avatar and felt very tired all of a sudden.

Here are a couple of pics of that other vintage jacket. It's quite fancy, not really the kind of thing I'm wearing at the moment to be honest, but it's so well crafted and very much of its time, plus it reminds me of one of my aunts who I always thought was very glamorous, so I walked away and then went back for it. I've not figured out a way to wear it yet. I know they had a revival with jeans a few years ago but I'd like to think of something a bit more fresh. I think Chanel have been teaming them with teeny tiny skirts but that's not going to happen.

Ha, I love that label Flo, and your mum, duvet for cheering you up with red shoes. You deserve some nice shoes, but definitely worth checking they go on easily. Are there not more cheery shoes out there instead? Boots are nice and all but ever so practical.

I think the UK may be trailing behind again Flo, iirc the Zara Kassl Collab was a couple days difference too. I'd attach pictures but apparently we're only allowed three a day now and I've reached my limit Xmas Hmm

Hmm, I'll have to think of a novel way to wear the Chanel style cardigan, I kind of like the idea of balloon leg trousers maybe, but I mean proper balloon leg ones 80s style, quite a lot being sold now are more of a minmal barrel cut and I don't think those would juxtapose the proportions enough. Or maybe over a 90s maxi straight skirt/slip dress with some splits in the side but it would have to be in similar tone to the cardigan. You're not usually a pastel person so it's a bit of a surprising buy. Thinking of what you probably already own some light tan 40s style pleated trousers?

And urgh don't get me started on clothes for your avatar. The fashion industry is getting way too overinvested in this Metaverse thing from Facebook. I think they've always fallen behind with digital innovation and are trying to overcompensate that now but it honestly feels like a dud. I said the same thing about the Google glasses and whatever Microsoft had cooking for a while with VR and occulus. Have we not learned already that Facebook and Instagram are terrible places that are detrimental to mental health (disproportionately women too), I don't want it interfering with my wardrobe

OP posts:
Floisme · 07/12/2021 16:05

You're right, I don't normally go for those kinds of colours or, if I did wear one of them, I'd probably team it with something stronger. I think I bought it mainly because it packed an emotional punch, if that makes sense, which is why I'm struggling now to find a place for it. Yes I have some light tan pleated trousers - will try them together, maybe with a fuckton of pearls.

70sDuvet · 08/12/2021 09:06

Flo
Terrible screenshot but some quick ideas I looked up while having breakfast. Also def for shapes not full outfits as a lot have elements that are to be desired

I like the idea of a graphic tshirt to dress down the formalness of the jacket. Also as its so heathery in colour could it look good with jeans? The ones I've grabbed are wayyyyyy too embellished for my liking but a nice straight legged shape that I know you like.

I also liked the slight high necked slightly chunky jumper under, but if yours fits would there be room?

I thought Flo wanted something other than jeans, maybe I'm misremembering (and too lazy to scroll back). How far down does it come? If it's long enough you could probably do a swishy pleated oversized skirt worn a little low with it too. But maybe shit ton of pearls is just the thing it needs. I've attached my favourite Chanel look, I'm not really a Chanel fan at all tbh but this one remains memorable and why I was going down pleated trousers rabbit hole. Wondering if some brocade or similar would work in your situation Flo to sort of shake it out of the 'proper' sphere?

Floisme · 08/12/2021 13:36

Thanks both! Yeah it does look ok with jeans but I saw that look so much the last time around that I'm trying to think of something fresh. It's a bit longer than in that photo bo, which is probably another issue - either cropped or below mid hip normally works better for me.

I'd been thinking of graphic Ts 70s. A chunky jumper sounds good too but there probably isn't enough sleeve room. However you did get me thinking, and I've just tried it over my new +J hoodie. The colours aren't right (hoodie is burgundy) but I do like the 2 styles together.... I've got an old navy hoodie in the wash so I'll try that later although it's quite chunky too so I've a bad feeling it might not fit too well. The +J off-white one would probably work well but a) my size is sold out and b) even if it was in stock, I don't really want to start throwing more money at it.

Alternatively I could just accept that I bought it more for emotional reasons and forget about trying to wear it and just hang it on the wall or something.

botemp · 08/12/2021 13:57

Well my coat arrived, it's nice enough but it already has some dust stains on it and it's just a little too transparent if I'm not wearing a light colour underneath, size was good though. Back it goes, but joy of joys when I was doing my return I was able to exchange it for the almond green one in the same size as that came back in stock. I'm happy with this size, the size down (which I tried on in a boutique way back when in summer) with a chunky jumper would not have worked as I had feared then as in this size it's just right and not ridiculously oversized with normal knitwear. I think I'll be banned from ordering from the Outnet if I return the latest order though 🙈

I'll post pics of the white one later as I need to do the background cropping thing.

Flo on the picture I posted she seems to be wearing a fitted cardigan (roundish neck I think), they've nonchalantly left a few buttons open for a flash of belly but bar that, it could be worth a try? I do like your approach of just treating it like a layer as opposed to the star item as I think that's the way it's been styled previously with jeans and mini skirts, etc.

God I'm erratic on the thread!

I liked the article on the little fella and Abloh, but agree that something felt a bit sad about it, this sort of gadgety feel to a lot of men's hobbies maybe - has to be the right brand and the right stuff. He'd be bit older now, hope he's doing well :)

Elle, lovely with a trip to Paris, great photos! Sounds like you had a nice time.

Jersey/knit dresses are so great when you're pregnant I think, it's much easier to get good maternity tights than trousers really and when you're pregnant you never need feel that your belly is too big Grin

It's been really cold here for a while, -10 to -17 constantly. It's lovely and the world turns beautiful and sparkly, but you do need to be dressed right. Duvet, we're not over-using the alcogel here in Suecia now but I'll give the sensation a try, for science - in general water on skin in negative degrees = bad idea of course.

Also waiting for Bo's coat ;) what a saga this has been!

Flo that jacket is very unusual for you! I think mostly because of the colours, which are a bit prissy delicate? I think imagining one of them Japanese style personas styling it would help - who said ballon trousers?

Stockholm street style - ah well I say. I get so many compliments for my yellow coat let me tell you. Was on a bus the other day full of people, all in black or possibly navy. Plus me!

Floisme · 08/12/2021 18:26

You're right bani it's not my usual thing. I think I probably need therapy to help me fathom it out Grin

botemp · 08/12/2021 19:16

Ha, I love that you're the belle of the ball on the bus Bani the latest Stockholm style video has snow I'm all Xmas Envy but then I see everyone in their practical fugly shoes (instead of their uniform on trend gigantic pristine £££ trainers) trudging through the sludge and I don't feel so bad anymore. Really must go and look at the puffer coat at Zara but I'm really poorly motivated to go into the shops- cold weather and the shops all close really early per covid regulations so by the time I think let's go there's like an hour left until closing.

Ah yes it's been quite a coat saga hasn't it, sorry to subject you all to it Blush but I feel somewhat vindicated for holding out for what I want and I'm glad I don't have to order it from the French and their illegal practices. Attached is the coat in white on, nice enough but it did not feel like I'd arrived, there's a better white coat for me out there, I'm sure of it, but in this coat the almond green colour is really what's doing it for me.

Poor ExistentialCrisisFlo, you should start a 'but what does it mean that I bought this' Confused thread. I think it's the colour more than the item that's throwing me. Must have a think of what I've bought for reasons I don't understand.

There was definitely something subliminal going on. Like I said, I had an aunt who used to wear something like that. I had better warn you, she also had a fur pillbox hat - probably real fur, this being around 1963. She used to go on holiday to far flung places like Spain and (I may have mentioned this before) she'd always bring me back a doll dressed in national costume, but I wasn't allowed to play with them because they were 'too good'. I can still remember standing in front of the display cabinet, my nose against the glass, just looking.

And there's enough material for a book right there.

Speaking of which, major respect for the white coat bo, even if it's not quite right. I would never dare - I can't even keep a white T shirt clean. All fingers crossed for the green.

botemp · 09/12/2021 09:20

Yeah, it has made me realise if I'm buying a white coat the material has to be a resilient sort. Maybe I'm better off making my own, I seem to be less precious about clothes I make myself. I do actually already own a white coat, it's my one and only puffer but it's getting on a bit in age, not as puffy as it was and starting to yellow hence looking longingly at the Ader Error one but I fear I'm on a bit of a coat binge Blush

Your aunt sounds very awe inducing to a child, I can definitely see the appeal. And now I want a fur pill box hat. Unpopular opinion but I don't really get that upset about fur, don't see it that differently from eating meat, which I don't eat so maybe that's why 🤷 Anyhow, I think we've effectively explored your keep for best trigger. I've never understood toys for children which can't be played with but I'm guessing this had much more to do with displays within the home which has somewhat been outsourced to social media these days.

OP posts:
banivani · 09/12/2021 09:40

Now I wouldn't say belle of the ball, and I do think a lot of it is just people enjoying colour, in the manner of medieval peasantry. They might not actually like the item in question, but they react and have to say something ;)

-3 today. Looking a bit sludgy and no more sparkly prettiness. :(

quirkychick · 10/12/2021 14:50

Wow, just catching up with bo's white coat saga and Elle's delightful Paris photos. I'm not sure whether I prefer the food or fashion, happy to go for both.

Very behind the times, but I finally got my +J puffa jacket after a lost parcel saga. It arrived yesterday in a huge, battered box about 5x the size of the jacket inside. Anyway, I am very pleased with it (despite the mixed reviews) and was glad I sized down. I think it does what flosaid about effortless, the shape is good and just hangs well. So, that's a late birthday present for me Grin.

faustina · 10/12/2021 15:05

@Floisme just popping my head round the door again to say those culottes are restocked.

Floisme · 12/12/2021 09:17

@faustina thank you, that's really kind!! I've ordered the olive ones im 2 sizes. Also grabbed the jeans - I'd been eyeing them up because my current straight legs are indigo and I've wanted some in darker denim for a while. I also like how they look loose on the thigh without any obvious tapering. Hard to tell whether that's clever cutting or clever photography or whether it's just that the model doesn't have thighs, but the chinos were similar last year so I wanted to see them,

I'm half hoping I agree with bo's review of the culottes (when did they drop the gaucho label?) cos I could do without the expense and it's not like I need any more wide leg trousers. But I'll be disappointed if the jeans don't work.

Glad to hear about the puffa jacket quirky

Redandblue11 · 12/12/2021 14:44

Just about catching up with all here. So Elle went to Paris sounds like a good nice trip specially now.
Ah the coat saga …
I am back in the uk. Just need to quarantine for a few days till negative pcr back / or till they tell me I caught it.
I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to have that long haul flight in the current circumstances. All the checks, pcrs, and paperwork needed are a massive malarkey and cost, but I suppose they are needed.
I didn’t do a Lot of shopping as my trip was mainly spending time with family and friends, so loads of bbqs , trekking in the local mountains and swimming in the pool.
But I got an alpaca poncho (present from my brother), leather black patent like flat sandals made in an Argentinean factory that I really like and do also football boots. These ones victoria.
Also got a pair of trousers lovely tan colour, a red long summer dress like a vest just plain long, a yellow top (photo) as I needed something other than vests, a leather belt in gaucho style to wear with jeans.
All the stuff made in Argentina, so incredibly cheap as unfortunately their local currency is crashing at an alarming rate.
I felt very safe there in terms of covid, being summer things help but there nobody questions the mask wearing they all wear them in all indoor circumstances and I would say half continue to wear them outdoors.
When you go into any indoor venue, shop, restaurant, anywhere you are greeted by someone who sprays your hands with diluted alcohol. In societies where rules are less stringent and personal space is non existent they had to put those measures to counteract I think.
I have to say, wearing masks in a long haul flight was extremely uncomfortable and being so close to so many people in a plane made me uneasy. But also was very exiting and emotional .
Like I said right now I feel extremely lucky to have been able to go and enjoy.

red, that sounds like a lovely trip. The second photo is a beautiful view and it sounds like you bought some good items from home.

faustina · 12/12/2021 16:38

@Floisme - please post pics of the trousers as I really like them too, but I don't think I can be arsed to do another stab in the dark with Uniqlo - especially not since it's a 9 mile drive to the nearest Hermes collection place to return

I bought the same jeans last season and the leg does look a lot like the photos - I ebayed my dark rinse pair a couple of weeks ago as they weren't the most comfortable for my shape - 25 too big, 24 not too big but the waist was a bit unforgiving - legs perfect though! I've kept the off white ones as they seem slightly stretchier. Good luck with yours!

botemp · 12/12/2021 16:53

Yes, I missed the memo too where the +J gauchos became culottes. Have I missed a Twitter mob accusing them of cultural appropriation?

Red, beautifully breathtaking landscape there, and it sounds like you've had a great time, here's hoping it will be more easily accessible next time in the not too distant future. I'm very Envy, I'd love to go there again, the food, the beautiful landscape and people, I'd love to take it all in again (the long flight has always puts me off though). Sad to hear the economy is still struggling I think when we went a peso was already cheap at a third of a dollar and it's something like a tenth of that now Sad

OP posts:
Floisme · 13/12/2021 11:27

Well we are due to be cancelled remember, so maybe the gauchos were judged to be adjacent Parisienne. Or something.

Yes I'll post pics and thoughts faustina. They're supposed to be delivered today but I'm away again so it'll be a couple more days before I get to see them.

So pleased to hear you got to see your family and enjoyed your trip Red. I love that yellow top on you.

botemp · 13/12/2021 12:33

I'm not sure switching it to French makes it any less appropriating 🤷 I mean technically they resemble culottes more than actual gaucho trousers, or what we know as culottes these days anyhow, still odd. They definitely said gauchos on the cardboard thingy attached to them, I doubt they've reprinted those but now I'd love to know...
