Some of my suggestions, all rejected and I don't disagree! Surprisingly hard to find. She's prefers something fitted and while I personally feel it can be a touch dated I know she'd be more comfortable.

She has a pale pink Goat one on the way. The style is great but the colour is not.

Hmm, I'm notoriously terrible with wedding suggestions but my first thought was Prada but knowing that would probably be well over budget I looked at Yoox, this any good? Annoyingly the pink is a bit iffy, the beige looks white to me and the best colour is navy 🤦but I feel as a dress it ticks the boxes of formal fitted where you'd want it fitted but not staid and good for a pear shape. Not above the knee but it would work with flats imo, especially if she's of height with you.

Have you considered looking at rentals, the whole designer dress rentals seem to be booming and they've vastly improved their offerings.

Where does she stand re sleeves?

Floisme · 17/04/2021 18:46

Sos X post - that was to Elle.

Floisme · 17/04/2021 18:49

And does she definitely want a dress or would she consider skirt or trousers as well?

ToEllewithIt · 17/04/2021 19:04

She's not as tall as I am, she's 5'7" but similar body type. She's fine with sleeveless, her shoulders and arms are toned but strappy would be a no. Prada dress is a great shape but violates the colour rules! She feels wearing same colour as MOB is a faux pas. I can't remember to be honest if it is or not. It doesn't have to be pricey either. She'd be happy in high street but is picky about quality.

ToEllewithIt · 17/04/2021 19:08

Flo I think she'd probably lean away from trousers but would do a skirt.

Floisme · 17/04/2021 19:23

Would she wear vintage or retro? I was wondering about a bit of Jackie Kennedy homage, although it might not show off her waist. It would have the advantage of being relatively timeless or as much as anything can be - important at a wedding I always think because those family group photos can be on display for years to come.

ToEllewithIt · 17/04/2021 19:31

Flo she doesn't like shopping so I think the time commitment of vintage shopping wouldn't appeal. She's not adverse to second hand but I think it would have to be online and take returns. These are the two she had ordered which have definite retro / Jackie O vibes to me. Just the colour is not the best on her. These in a green/ teal/ raspberry would be 100%

Ah, that's a tricky style as I suspect the pandemic has pretty much killed the dressed up workwear market. Maybe the fold has something?

I found this in a lovely green, just the one size left though and the model is absolutely not selling it but it is 100% silk. On the long side though.

This Erdem one is maybe too dark?

In other news, I now desperately want a giant tule coat for the bargainous price of €1800 Blush

OP posts:
Floisme · 17/04/2021 20:13

I like the Erdem. The Fold is a good call - there was a thread about one of their dresses a while ago and I remember thinking it would be good for a wedding, although it was oyster coloured so might only work for the bride.

Where's this coat then?

Floisme · 17/04/2021 20:15

What's the other place people talk about on here for mother of bride / groom outfits? I was mildly obsessed with one of their dresses at one point and now I can't even remember their fecking name.

botemp · 17/04/2021 20:15

I quite like this from the fold, would be great in photographs* but it would have to suit her personality. I am, however, Shock at the price of the matching shoes consider the prices of everything else. Is red still verboten at weddings?

*Speaking of photographs and Flo's comments about things being better off looking timeless, I absolutely love how outdated outfits are in wedding photos, it sort of encapsulates it's a single moment in time.

OP posts:
Floisme · 17/04/2021 20:17

Oh I do too - I'm in a couple of corkers and they really make me laugh - but I know not everyone appreciates them!

botemp · 17/04/2021 20:18

Tule coat madness

OP posts:
botemp · 17/04/2021 20:20

Hmm, I don't remember the other company either, it's not bombshell dresses I'm sure that's for the busty brides. Not Winsor London?

OP posts:
Floisme · 17/04/2021 20:27

Oh I wonder if it was Bombshell, just not one of their their va-va-voom frocks? I'm being called away so got to go now but I'll have a look and report back tomorrow.

ThisNameIsDifferentFromTheLast · 17/04/2021 20:35

Have you looked at LK Bennett yet Elle
they have some new colouful dresses in that might work. Not the most exciting of cuts but a better price point for wearing as a one off

Bo that NAP dress would definitely scandalise the pope, it barely covered the model in the video Shock

I'm seeing halters every where at the mo. Was very taken by this Toteme top till I realised it's two scarves knotted together.

Les Parisiennes des Mamansnet: For the Love of Well Dressed Women in Repose
botemp · 17/04/2021 20:42

Oh me too, they sent me an email with all the scarf combos and then I realised it wasn't tops inspired by their scarves but required two expensive scarves and me perilously hoping it would all stay put. Marketing genius move (why sell you one scarf you weren't interested in when we can sell you two you suddenly desperately want) but I'm too scared of scandalising more than just the pope with that construction. I hadn't looked at the video of the NaP dress, so not only does her boob look like an alien growth, it's not even secure at that? Shock

Maybe it is bombshell, this is very classic MOB/G but no clue how that would look on someone not busty.

OP posts:
botemp · 17/04/2021 20:48

I've seen it now, poor model is also desperately trying to cover up the front split with her bag as clearly it's not enough for your boobs to pop out with any movement, we also need easy access and view to her underroos Shock

OP posts:
ThisNameIsDifferentFromTheLast · 17/04/2021 21:22

I was so busy looking at the top detail I didn't even notice the front split, you'd definitely want built in knickers with that design!

You can tell they've had to be very careful with the models poses and camera angle for the photos to hide just how high cut it is. I foresee a lot of returns!

botemp · 17/04/2021 21:34

I assume it's for a very specific market

Found another dress but it's a tough one to see properly, I think it's more taupey grey their photographs are always overexposed. Secondhand Jil Sander bias cut dress, they take returns and it's free shipping this weekend (think free returns too). I found an old listing for it on NAP here they describe the colour as blush 🤷 anyhow, may not even be her size but I am somehow invested in this one out of morbid curiosity what it's like in RL as I suspect it's really nicely constructed (it has silk lining )

there may also be a bit of shiny metallics in there 🙈

Thank you all very much for the shoe tips! Mr bani esp says thank you. He spent a long time browsing El Corte Ingles so we’ll see what he decides on in the end.

I’ve really enjoyed seeing the dress suggestions. Love the tulle coat too. That Prada dress was awesome what a shame the colours were disappointing! but such is fashion apparently 😡 Anyway if she’d like the Prada I doubt she’d like a Bombshell? Loved the green suggestion too. It was so exciting to see party dresses!!!

Thank you for the dressing room pictures Bo - I liked the Hennes jumper fwiw but I’d wager you already own something similar 😉 Was the linen knit dress also Hennes! They had the same or similar model last year I was sort of tempted because the drape was so pretty but then I copped on to my actual lifestyle and body and didn’t bother 😂

In the striped shirt dress you look more like a runaway orphan than anything else - but an excellent illustration of the fact that not all similar garments are the same. RIP Acne dress. Fun to see you try on something with these exaggerated shoulders I’m seeing a lot of. It looked good, but I don’t think it’s a trend I’ll be following myself. Fwiw I dyed jeans that were faded blue once (from the shop) and they went uniform. But normally I find the lighter bits stay lighter.

Re being average: I wasn’t fishing or thinking of it as something particularly negative. It’s not about attractiveness per se, some people enjoy standing out/being a bit out there in their looks regardless of i they’re “attractive” or not but it’s not really for us - wallpaper not art is us. We have a good enough eye to see that what’s being offered is boringly samey and/or is lacking that extra edge that keeps us from being frumpy and serves to prove that we do have a bit of an eye, and that’s our problem.

Red the shape of those jeans is very good. What a great shop to have near you!

I went shopping too today and bought a pair of trousers in black from the Carin Wester brand in Åhléns. The material is just a polyester viscose crepe blend and I feel like the world’s biggest fast fashion sell out in a way but I own the style in a different colour (the ones from the picture with the blue shirt) and they are just so comfortable and easy to wear so I said fuck it. I wear those all the time, hey not own that I do.

I also tried on two linen shirts for funsies (one from Stenströms one from Part Two) and have a fitting question. What’s the fitting problem when you raise your arms a bit or just shrug and the shoulders sort of stay up? Can’t remember so can’t remember if it’s fixable.

Floisme · 18/04/2021 00:10

I wonder if it was Bombshell bo? It was a similar shape to that - a very Dior 1947 vibe which I've always had a soft spot for - but at the same time more austere than that green one. I'm too tired to start looking now but I'll have a rummage and catch up on the rest tomorrow.

botemp · 18/04/2021 07:34

I get what you mean with average Bani, as we say here, just act normal, it's crazy enough. Bit like the Jante's laws in Denmark, there's a good way to be average by displaying (but not be seen to be doing so) adherence to these unspecified parameters and striking the balance of not too much, not too little. Instead of just an average way to be average by default, one is covetable and the other is not but I think that's a nuance that may get lost elsewhere where average is just a scant baseline that no one aspires to.

I found a raspberry pink fitted number, but the neckline is very marmite and will very much date the wedding pictures but there's also something really weird about the photography, the boots look huge and her head and shoulders tiny Confused Escada dress l had thought that brand would have loads of these fitted type of dresses, they very much used to, but not so much anymore it seems.

Possibly this Rodebejer dress but I suspect it's more wedding guest than MOG, even with the belt (which look like bells Confused).
