Things that annoy me on S&B because

yes I'm in that type of mood today . . .

The main one is the often commented 'oh you can only wear that if you're tall and thin'.

I mean if you have the figure of a model it goes without saying surely you can pretty much wear anything.

But what are the rest of us meant to wear.

It may look best on someone tall and slim but that doesn't mean if you're not those things that you still can't look good.

Oh and it is allowed for people to spend £££ on clothes - just because some people don't it doesn't make those who do bad people.

I'm with Get Orf on the french women and style thing. Whilst there are lots of stylish women in my own little favourite & frequently visited part of France (Evian and the surrounds), there are an equal number of women with an alarming reliance on dodgy burgundy hair dye and trousers cropped at a deeply unattractive length.

I am always a little when DH tells me I am "working a french look"...that dutch sense of humour means I am never sure which way he means it!

Now, dutch women are not always the most stylish, IMO but they do know that beauty starts with fabulous skin. You rarely see dutch women with make up - they have a gorgeously fresh look of which I am hugely envious.

What always occurs to me with these threads is how much women judge other women... and we do... we all do it...

I am thinner than most people. According to DH I am quite pretty.

There is plenty of time for dressing like a middle-aged minor member of the Royal Family when you are old and can't be bothered. Because that's what the classic navy blue blazer tasteful bollocks look says to me.

French women (well, Parisians) are scared to take risks and dress very similarly to one another, IMO. They adhere nervously to narrow ideals of 'femininity' and 'taste'. I like British style far better.

I was in Paris last week (Oh yes) and saw a woman wearing red tights, huge red platform shoes, camel skirt, white blouse and patterned scarf. She looked amazing. Everyone was staring at her like she was walking around in a bin bag- in London she would have got nothing further than admiring glances.

I LOVE S&B. It's twaddle really, first class twaddle. All of it.

"Can I wear this/that/whatever and get away with it?" "Can you help me put an outfit together?" How old are you?! I've managed to get dressed, all by myself, every day for the past 42 years, or thereabouts!

Actually, I'm mostly lurking in the emotionally draining Special Needs section so, I find all of this delightful. Even in my darkest moments.....I still want to know WHICH IS THE BEST WATERPROOF MASCARA

Brilliant thread (and yes I have asked for advice before)....my nark about S&B is when women say "it will be suitable for the school run" What ? Am sorry, do people really pay that much attention or look for a particular top to drop the kids off ?

Do they only wear the outfit until they get back and then change into 'going to shop' outfit ? or 'cleaning bathroom' outfit. Always amuses me.

School run doesn't necessarily mean the school run! It refers to everyday clothes. It has just become, over time, a bit of a S&B phrase.

size 16 covers a huge range of sizes.

I have norks. I wear V-necks. it is because i have a short neck.

my friend with a long neck and large norks, looks great in high necked things.

school run dress threads make me weep, as I will never ever spend £100 on an outfit to wear to school. never. Nor will I wear my PJs and a coat, but I think I am somewhere in between.
