Things that annoy me on S&B because

yes I'm in that type of mood today . . .

The main one is the often commented 'oh you can only wear that if you're tall and thin'.

I mean if you have the figure of a model it goes without saying surely you can pretty much wear anything.

But what are the rest of us meant to wear.

It may look best on someone tall and slim but that doesn't mean if you're not those things that you still can't look good.

Oh and it is allowed for people to spend £££ on clothes - just because some people don't it doesn't make those who do bad people.

And relax . . .

I'm quite a scruffy lass, but even I have embraced the SRD. One item of clothing to throw on with boots or sandals to see you through the day.

I hate the posts where people mock others' style. There was one a while ago where someone was excited about getting some purple Dr Martens, and people were soooo scathing. FFS, if we all dressed the same, we'd be in uniform.

I sometimes ask seemingly stupid Qs, but I have spent a looong time not going out in a fug of PND, and need reasurance that you can wear, for example, smart jeans to dinner midweek.

school run dress....But it is a bit about showing off isn't it?

I am pregnant and have very much enjoyed purchasing some nice new things, have a wedding on saturday and a very nice dress to wear to it.

Georgie - the only thing I liked about pregnancy was teh really valid excuse to buy new clothes

I spent my pregnancy on another forum (not NM incidentally) and threads about maternity clothes always had people saying "I'm just spending my pregnancy in dp's pyjamas / tracksuit bottoms / t-shirts" or "I've got some leggings and a couple of oversize Primarni tops". WTF - I'm a professional woman so those options are quite simply not an option (and even if they were I wouldn't be seen dead in either of those ensembles)!!
Could have done with S&B's links to find the things I so desperately searched for to avoid looking like a bag lady!

school run dress threads make me weep, as I will never ever spend £100 on an outfit to wear to school. never. Nor will I wear my PJs and a coat, but I think I am somewhere in between.

dexter73....I said I enjoy the thread. And this one, is supposed to be lightheared, I think? Confused We don't all need to be told/advised what to look like.

Ah S&B is great for being a bit of fluff. The more links to nice stuff the better.

ah well 'i am a size 16, can i wear..'

that depends!! are you tall? pear shaped? toned or lumpy? how is your body apportioned?

size 16 covers a huge range of sizes.

I have norks. I wear V-necks. it is because i have a short neck.

my friend with a long neck and large norks, looks great in high necked things.

neckline: think neck not norks.

School run doesn't necessarily mean the school run! It refers to everyday clothes. It has just become, over time, a bit of a S&B phrase.

Brilliant thread (and yes I have asked for advice before)....my nark about S&B is when women say "it will be suitable for the school run" What ? Am sorry, do people really pay that much attention or look for a particular top to drop the kids off ?

Do they only wear the outfit until they get back and then change into 'going to shop' outfit ? or 'cleaning bathroom' outfit. Always amuses me.

And without any danger that they will tell you something looks nice when it doesn't :)

It's the online equivalent of going out shopping with your friends, isn't it?

Report
dexter73 · 07/06/2011 10:55

Well everyone can managed to get dressed themselves wendi, but some people would like a bit of help knowing what looks nice, or just looking for ideas without spending hours trawling round the shops.

I LOVE S&B. It's twaddle really, first class twaddle. All of it.

"Can I wear this/that/whatever and get away with it?" "Can you help me put an outfit together?" How old are you?! I've managed to get dressed, all by myself, every day for the past 42 years, or thereabouts!

Actually, I'm mostly lurking in the emotionally draining Special Needs section so, I find all of this delightful. Even in my darkest moments.....I still want to know WHICH IS THE BEST WATERPROOF MASCARA Grin

Since this thread started, there have been several threads, where the OP begins by apologising for asking for advise, ha ha ha!

Actually, that's quite sad.

French women (well, Parisians) are scared to take risks and dress very similarly to one another, IMO. They adhere nervously to narrow ideals of 'femininity' and 'taste'. I like British style far better.

I was in Paris last week (Oh yes) and saw a woman wearing red tights, huge red platform shoes, camel skirt, white blouse and patterned scarf. She looked amazing. Everyone was staring at her like she was walking around in a bin bag- in London she would have got nothing further than admiring glances.

I will not get over it.
I am thinner than most people. According to DH I am quite pretty.

There is plenty of time for dressing like a middle-aged minor member of the Royal Family when you are old and can't be bothered. Because that's what the classic navy blue blazer tasteful bollocks look says to me.

I am being belligerent now. I must go back to my marking.
