Huge adverts making site unusable

I am being plagued by a Taylor Wimpey advert. It takes up the whole page and makes it impossible to scroll. Please get it removed or made smaller.

Forgot to attach to my previous post because - guess what - the blank page came up. @HebeMumsnet

Happened while reading this thread, completely froze after the white screen and had to close the page and come back.

Your users are having major problems with your site and have been for months @MNHQ.

I'm getting this as well, is it full page ads trying to load? its making the site unusable as it happens on almost every thread.

NewName24 · 22/01/2025 16:57

Yes, the one @AncoraAmarena has posted has been happening for weeks, but now and then - perhaps once a day.

The one @Error404pagenotfound has posted (great name for the post!) has been happening since Friday or Saturday and at times has made MN unusable as it happens every few seconds.
At other times it "only" happens every other minute or so.

The blank page is more prevalent and happening All The Time. The virus one happens a couple of times a day for me.

An update would be good @mnhq please.

newtlover · 22/01/2025 20:37

the virus thing happened just now for me on this very thread after about 1hr with no problems

JaneJeffer · 22/01/2025 20:44

Just reminding everyone that @mnhq does nothing! You need to @ an actual MN name!

Garlicnorth · 23/01/2025 20:50

Disney ad currently obscuring navigation and site headers. I'm using Chrome on a Windows PC (all up to date). This ad appears on Talk 'directory' pages but not on individual posts.

Ad source, according to Malwarebytes. (Your filter may have stripped out the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure part)

Oh, it's not just Disney. All the ads with this whole-page placement are obscuring navigation & branding.

... To add unsolicited advice: If this is a standard ad format, you need to push the Mumsnet content block down by 258px when you've got one.

They’re back! After having a wonderful break from the giant creeping ads, KitchenAid and Whirlpool have been relentless for the past few days…

Springsunflower · 08/02/2025 16:35

It's horrendous, the adverts are covering the screen,I can't use the site like this .adverts for yours clothing slap bag in the middle of the screen

Springsunflower · 08/02/2025 16:36

Is this on purpose to get us to sign up and pay for premium.
I give up
Going to have a look at joining net mums ... assuming that's still around

Zonder · 08/02/2025 23:46

They are worse than ever.

Springsunflower · 09/02/2025 07:30

Why are Mumsnet not doing anything about it

Maybe they bought shares in Netmums and are hoping we will all go over there instead

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/02/2025 13:04

Unbelievably annoying

Can't wait to get back to work next week 😀

ISawAMouseThere · 03/07/2025 15:28

Just an update from me, the ad overkill is now making the site unusable, it is affecting my eyesight and making me feel nauseous. I'm not exaggerating either.

Attaching a screenshot to show what I am referring to.
The screen is over 90% ads at any given point.
Actual content (created by us), is barely fucking visible. I am sorry for the language but it's just cheap and insulting.

But most of all, I am definitely using the site less because of it.

The entire interface reminds me of all of those junk ad leaflets that used to fall out of newspapers in the old days. The daily rags are less intrusive than this.

Agreed. It's not happening on every thread but it's so cluttered and off-putting, it looks terrible.

I spend a good bit of time on reddit, and the ads there are very well placed. They are constant but less intimidating and off-putting. Less tabloid-y and cheap looking.

I imagine MN are ever so slightly desperate/struggling right now?
When things scrape the bottom of the barrel, it's usually something like that!

Redrosesposies · 04/07/2025 23:57

I keep getting a whole page of sheds. It's very annoying.

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/07/2025 01:06

Does anyone know how to get them off the page once on it? I can't see an X

HebeMumsnet · 07/07/2025 09:27

Morning, everyone. Thanks for the screenshots. We've had a look and these ads are behaving as they should do. They're what's known as page skins and are a fairly common advertising feature on other sites, too. We are aware that some users find them distracting though. If the ads are really getting to you, we do offer a 'premium' membership for just a few pounds a month that means you won't see ads. You can find out more about that here: https://www.mumsnet.com/premium.

So it’s deliberate to make people sign up to premium then !

Is that why we are now getting a fake virus page loading up now ? Another way to try and get more sign ups.
