Big paragraphs appearing when I try to reply to threads

I'm using the browser on a Samsung phone and getting a weird thing - if it happens here I'll leave it so you can see what I mean! Big spaces are appearing at the bottom of posts, like when a cat stands on the enter key. And paragraphs are jumping apart

by themselves and the cursor skips around.

It's not happening on any other sites so definitely not my phone - just had to abandon a post entirely as it was "skipping" so much it became completely unresponsive!

Okay, I have disabled what I think a PP was referring to. Seem to have had a few random issues with the phone since it last did an upgrade, where it had 'switched on' settings that I previously didn't use.
Hopefully it'll work OK now.

VenusStarr · 09/02/2023 23:00

I've just disabled it on mine...🙏

rubydoobydoo · 10/02/2023 05:45

Just disabled this on mine too - fingers crossed!! Didn't even know it was there.

No cursor jumping yet - it sometimes takes a while to kick in though! 🤞🤞

Thanks for telling us about this, trying it out now.

Let's see.

It looks to be working fine, hooray!

Wish Samsung wouldn't add in shit like grammarly anyway, it's just annoying.

Blister · 10/02/2023 07:34

Trying
Out paragraphs
And hoping for no jumpy text...
Giving it time
To settle.
Seems to work.
Samsung effed up and grammarly is greedy but MN test team need more test phone configurations.

Natsku · 10/02/2023 07:56

Can this fix be put in a new thread with fix for samsung phones in the title so everyone having this problem but isn't on this thread can find out how to fix it.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 10/02/2023 08:11

Testing testing.

Seems to be working for me too!

🤞🤞

Thank you for the tip!!

Crunchymum · 10/02/2023 11:44

Let's see if @BelleHathor has been able to do what MNHQ couldn't 😂

So far so good 👍

Samsung users: the problem may be due to Samsung integrating Grammarly into it's Keyboard, this app checks everything written for the correct grammar. Try disabling it as suggested in these threads:
www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS21/comments/r9fafq/new_grammarly_samsung_keyboard_causing_issues/

forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s22-s22-plus-s22-ultra/1052889-phone-keeps-adding-extra-lines-while-posting-forums.html

I did it a few days ago and now can post without phantom spaces, which I was experiencing here and on xenforo powered forums.

Would this mean there no grammar/spelling help, if I disabled this ?

The problem seems to be with the Grammar help powered by Grammarly. It sends everything you type to their servers (privacy issue perhaps?) to be checked before suggesting the correct grammar.

To keep spelling suggestions on make sure that the following is toggled on, then you will get the correct spelling suggestions.

This only started for me following a recent samsung update, so anyone updating check this afterwards!

Saisong · 10/02/2023 14:56

Seems to work for me too so far. Thanks @BelleHathor!!

AmberGer · 10/02/2023 14:58

I'm having issues too. I'm having to type in my notes app then copy and paste here. I thought it was just me.

LilyMumsnet · 10/02/2023 15:35

Sorry everyone - it's no secret that we were struggling to replicate this one.
Huge thank you to @BelleHathor if this has sorted the issue for some folk.
We're very grateful for your sleuthing of the issue and sharing a possible fix. Flowers

kittensinthekitchen · 10/02/2023 15:39

Thank you so much @BelleHathor have turned that option off.

Fingers crossed 🤞 it solves it

007DoubleOSeven · 10/02/2023 17:48

I've just disabled grammerly so will see if it makes a difference and report back

VenusStarr · 10/02/2023 18:02

It seems to be working for me! Yay! Thank you @@BelleHathor 😊

007DoubleOSeven · 10/02/2023 18:23

Nope, sadly the grammerly hack didn't work for me. Still the same problems.

BelleHathor · 10/02/2023 19:14

007DoubleOSeven · 10/02/2023 18:23

Nope, sadly the grammerly hack didn't work for me. Still the same problems.

Oh sorry to hear that, did you double check that everything was toggled to off? Mine kept resetting until frustrated I toggled everything off.

Glad to hear it's working for some posters.

Blister · 10/02/2023 19:29

@007DoubleOSeven grammarly does not like being turned off and it keeps turning itself back on again. You need to make sure all apps which have access aren't using it. That's why I called it greedy. You can't switch grammarly itself off.

Meandthemoggies · 11/02/2023 07:18

I've tried that. Testing testing

New parag which is always the thing that makes it jump around

I think this might have worked. I am still.getting underlined words where they have been autocorrected so clearly there is still some sort of spellchecker going on.

Thanks to the pp who suggested this ! It does indeed seem to be the solution 🥳

Hthhehhe brhrh <-- these words haven't been underlined or autocorrected so it could be a pain if you rely on a spellchecker .v annoying that Samsung has done this.

Natsku · 11/02/2023 07:34

On the other hand, I'm really glad to turn that function off because it kept correcting to the wrong word and I'd go back and write in the right word and then it'd "correct" it again wrongly. So annoying if I'm typing in a rush.

motleymop · 11/02/2023 20:56

What is Grammarly? I don't seem to have that.
