Big paragraphs appearing when I try to reply to threads

I'm using the browser on a Samsung phone and getting a weird thing - if it happens here I'll leave it so you can see what I mean! Big spaces are appearing at the bottom of posts, like when a cat stands on the enter key. And paragraphs are jumping apart

by themselves and the cursor skips around.

It's not happening on any other sites so definitely not my phone - just had to abandon a post entirely as it was "skipping" so much it became completely unresponsive!

Hi OP

This sounds really frustrating!
We're keen to look into it for you.

First thing is - can we suggest clearing your cache/Mumsnet cookies? This tends to resolve many issues so it's worth trying. Let us know how you get on.

rubydoobydoo · 24/11/2022 17:21

OK I have tried that - fingers crossed!

Nope still happen...ing

The dots in the middle were when the cursor jumped, they were meant to be at the end!

Hi @rubydoobydoo - sorry to hear that didn't work. Are you able to post a screenshot so we can see what's going on?

Thanks in advance.

rubydoobydoo · 25/11/2022 21:53

Struggling to reply but try this... The bottom of the text box starts getting very long !!

Aha!

Happening to me, too. Also Samsung phone. If I send more than about 10 seconds writing a reply it starts adding line breaks, and occasionally the cursor jumps to a completely different part of the box.

There are spare line breaks below the last para as well, but those don't show when I post - just the ones between paras.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 19:37

I only put one line return between the 1st 2 parts there, the rest added themselves.

That was a relatively short one - some are 30+ lines.

FlissMumsnet · 27/11/2022 21:36

Sorry to hear this is happening to you too BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn

we're trying to figure out a fix for this so please bear with us.

motleymop · 27/11/2022 21:40

This happens to me too. It's really weird.

motleymop · 27/11/2022 21:40

Someone else said the same on a thread I was on the other day

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 27/11/2022 22:28

Possibly related, I also can't use the emoticons button. The emoticons panel pops up briefly but then vanished before I can select one.

Impressed by getting a response on a Sunday - thank you!

BrollyMixture · 28/11/2022 09:07

This happens to me too on Samsung. Cookies, cache etc all cleared, other sites working fine. Only started in the last week.

VenusStarr · 28/11/2022 10:57

Yes! Its happening to me too, also Samsung ... very annoying!

Although interestingly, hasn't happened on this reply 🤔 but if I tag someone the formatting goes off and the cursor jumps around all over the place.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 11:18

Yes, tagging's a disaster. The cursor goes mad and the whole post gets included in the tag coding!

I've found writing the rest of the post then quickly adding the tag at the very last moment mostly works.

HebeMumsnet · 28/11/2022 11:56

Hi again @rubydoobydoo and others. It does sound like this might be an issue with the Samsung browser. We've not been able to replicate it anywhere else.

Would you mind trying it on Chrome on your Samsung phone and seeing if that's any better?

And if anyone else is having this issue but not on Samsung, please do let us know what device and browser you're using.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 12:06

I don't think I can. Chrome boots me over to the app.

kittensinthekitchen · 28/11/2022 12:32

Same here, Samsung browser, but only on Mumsnet.

LilyMumsnet · 28/11/2022 18:10

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 12:06

I don't think I can. Chrome boots me over to the app.

It's a massive faff, we know, but could you uninstall the app temporarily?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 20:02

App uninstalled, @LilyMumsnet

Let's see what happens if I write a post with a few paragraphs.

Maybe a link as a test (anyone want a Waterbutt as that's what I happen to have in my clupboard?).

Hmm - all seems to be behaving itself, so it looks as if the Samsung browser is the problem.

LilyMumsnet · 28/11/2022 20:28

Thanks for trying - we'll keep trying to replicate. Flowers

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 21:10

Thank.you.

I'll stick to using the Chome browser for now - that seems to be a successful workaround.

VenusStarr · 30/11/2022 19:49

Still happening for me. Tried changing go chrome but it keeps defaulting to Samsung browser. Again, not happening in site stuff 🧐

LilyMumsnet · 01/12/2022 11:44

Hi all

Can we double check a few details -

Which device are you using? (i.e. Samsung Galaxy S10 etc)

What Android version are you using? You should be able to find this in your device’s settings

What version of Samsung Internet are you using? You should be able to find this in Samsung Internet if you open the app, head to settings and select ’About Samsung Internet'.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 01/12/2022 13:26

Phone: Samsung A33

Android: 13

Samsung internet version: 19.0.1.2
