Boyfriend wants money just to talk to him

Belle270 · 21/07/2026 23:20

My boyfriend is in debt and seriously depressed. He has now told me unless I can give him the money he owes he won’t be able to talk to me as he’s not in a situation to be able to talk to anyone unless he solves his problems. He actually told me to block him and not speak to him unless I can get him the money. I’m so hurt, shocked and feel so used. I haven’t given him any money but I can’t believe he says he loves me and says he will only talk to me or be with me if I clear his debt. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

This is very very easy. Do not talk to him again. Do not give him money. Problem solved.

WannabeMathematician · 21/07/2026 23:21

Your instincts are right that’s not how someone who loves you treats you.

Moremelanzaneparmigiana · 21/07/2026 23:21

Block him then

Treetreetreetree · 21/07/2026 23:21

Block him and move on.

Yogafiend · 21/07/2026 23:21

I’m sorry. But honestly the only advice that I can give you is let him go. He’s not the one for you or anyone else to be honest as long as he sees people as a way to solve his problems.

99bottlesofkombucha · 21/07/2026 23:21

i think you should say block him like he’s asked. I expect you think that’s too unkind because you can’t yet see how manipulative he’s being so just say ok then, if that’s what you want I’ll leave you alone. And do not initiate anything.

saveforthat · 21/07/2026 23:22

Block him and move on. He is trying to blackmail you. He is a nasty desperate bastard.

ShetlandishMum · 21/07/2026 23:24

Run.

Lifesd · 21/07/2026 23:26

This is very easy - walk away.

Poonu · 21/07/2026 23:26

Sounds like a scam

Belle270 · 21/07/2026 23:40

Thanks for the replies. We’ve been together for years and were planning to get married so this is a big shock. I really loved him and I thought he really loved me so I’m totally heartbroken. I just don’t know if he’s acting out of character as he’s in a bad situation or maybe he doesn’t mean what he’s saying

He is showing you who he is…believe him this time and be done with him.

extortion is never a part of a healthy relationship.

He will break up with you after he
gets money from you.

Aavalon57 · 21/07/2026 23:44

Is the debt a new thing or has he always had money issues?

DewDropsAndCobWebs · 21/07/2026 23:45

Please see this as the warning it is.
He will never be there to support you, you will always rescue him if you stay, and he will turn on you in a heartbeat if you don't comply

It’s new he’s never had money issues before. He had a shop that’s he’s had to close down and he owes rent and bills for that. He has started a new job but he has to pay off debt for that and is stressing over it. He’s never asked me for money before but he really is desperate at the moment to pay this off

Thanks that’s exactly the feeling I got

This is blackmail OP and this man does not truly love you.

Block and run! I'm so sorry 💐

MeganM3 · 21/07/2026 23:49

Treat this as a wonderful opportunity to part ways guilt free and move onwards and upwards.

Tabarnak · 21/07/2026 23:55

That does sound very tough for him.

But tough for him does not make it OK to treat you like that or expect you to just pay off his debt. No doubt putting yourself in debt in the process.

He needs to deal with his debt by talking to a debt counselling or other relevant advice / support service and he needs to deal with his depression by talking to his GP.

BleedinglyObvious · 21/07/2026 23:55

Block him and never speak to him again.

Belle270 · 21/07/2026 23:56

Any tips on how to stop myself from talking to him again and forgetting him? It’s so hard 😭

Mmhmmn · 22/07/2026 00:00

What a catch!
Block and move on with your life. Accept no attempts from him to stay in touch In future you won’t be able to believe that you entertained a relationship with a guy like that at all.

Mmhmmn · 22/07/2026 00:05

Well he’s a manipulative chancer-loser so by staying in touch you’d be doing yourself a lot of harm. If thst isn’t enough, write a list of all the ways in which he’s a shit head / makes you feel like crap Relationships aren’t supposed to make you confused /feel like crap / used / like an ATM.

Dweetfidilove · 22/07/2026 00:06

It's such a blessing this happened before marrying him 🙌🏾
