Need some hand holding and problem solving as can't get my head around how it is supposed to work.

DS1 is 2.9 and we started training this weekend. Day one was not very successful but day 2 we went for no pants or trousers and got all his wees on the potty. Although one poo on the floor!

But today he has gone to nursery in pants but has refused to sit on the potty. They put a nappy back on for a bit as he got so upset. Back in pants this afternoon but don't think there has been any success yet.

Anyone want to join?

Hi
I started today. DS is 2.5 and has previously had no interest in letting go of his nappy. Still no interest really. This is the 2nd time, 1st was a month ago. He's moved up a room in nursery where the toddlers are half and half with training so it's going to encouraging him further I hope. He did a wee in potty there on Friday after copying the other children.

Told him this morning we were having a no nappy/pants day. Asking regularly to go on potty. At 11am first wee on floor. Usually he has a poo in morning but nothing! By fluke more than anything he had a wee in potty (stood up) after lunch. Yey! By late afternoon he got a bit upset and distressed over not having a nappy and I needed to go out anyway so nappy on, an hour later and there's the poo. Back home and nappy off again but just accidents.

Day 1 a mixed feeling. Hmm

MidWeekSlump · 21/05/2012 22:39

I started today also.
Day 1 didn't go very well - lots of wet pants and shouting No at the potty.
Hoping tomorrow goes better.

seabuckthorn · 26/05/2012 13:56

We are starting too, I have no idea if I'm doing this right!
Do you leave the potty wherever you are?
DS wants to use the toilet upstairs but when we get there, i pop him on and then I think the moment has past.

WhispersOfWickedness · 29/05/2012 13:28

We are starting this weekend! This is because it's a long weekend so DH will be at home for moral/practical support!
Am slightly freaking out about it!

cuggles · 29/05/2012 15:26

Hi Second time I have joined a pt support thread!!! My dd is 2.7. We tried three months ago and got nowhere. Started trying again today and to be honest I just want to give up again! So far one success when I placed her on toilet and 8 accidents! She just seems to go on the floor whenever she likes - she knows the theory that we go on the toilet and wants to be a 'big girl' but it just doesnt happen - she even says 'sorry' bless her. This is our third attempt so I really want it to work but it has become a real issue in my head! Anyway - please support me and I will you and good luck all!!!

RoRomammy · 29/05/2012 15:46

Read a very good tip somewhere. Play catch the wee and poo in the potty. When you see them doing their business lift them to the potty and even if you only catch a dribble in the potty praise praise and praise again.

Worked for my DS but struggling with the poo still.

WhispersOfWickedness · 29/05/2012 17:26

Oops, forgot to say, DS is 2.5, no idea if he is ready or not but got to be worth a go!

cuggles · 30/05/2012 08:24

good luck today all - 2 wees on toilet for us so far today! - pre 8am - not bad! Dry night time nappy again too (been a month of those now but cant handle tackling both together and poor sleeper until a few weeks ago so dont want to disrupt that!)

tacal · 30/05/2012 08:54

good luck everyone. After many months of trying my ds is doing pees in the potty but I am determind to try get a poo in the potty this week!

RhubarbCrumbled · 30/05/2012 10:04

We're starting on Friday so I think there'll be lots of support needed! DH isn't good with mess at the best of times so I'll be sending him out to the pub and it'll be just me, DS and the potty. And lots of stickers and chocolate buttons.

Good luck everybody!

cuggles · 30/05/2012 18:11

a better day today - 5 wees and a poo in toilet although still lots of accidents (5) but I ws much stricter with insisting she sat on pooty every so often rather than asking if she wanted to which helped I think..will see what tomorrow brings! I just hope we get to bedtime (half an hour more) with no more accidents as it will be the first time more success than not which will help my state of mind no end!! RC - I am fine with the mess although fairly OCD generally it is the patience I have an issue with despite being a teacher (just cant understand why she doesnt get it!!!!!) Good luck everyone..how was today for those already begun?

Girlsville · 30/05/2012 19:51

Hello all
We started in sundaybwith dd1 who is 2.3. Today we had three wees and two poss on potty this morning :) but this afternoon not as good - she didn't wantntonchange out of her nappy into her knickers after her nap and then later int the afternoon successfully did another wee and poo on toilet but also had two accidents? Is this to be expected for four days in -I feel like have no idea what to expect or what is normal etc!!

hawthers · 31/05/2012 18:35

Sorry I started this thread then rl got in the way.

We're doing ok here. Got the wees sorted (apart from a wee outside 20 mins ago shit I knew I should have posted earlier!).

But poos we're getting nowhere. They are always on his pants. We've got poo goes to pooland so we'll try that but it doesn't bode well.

And I'm finding it all really stressful. I don't know why but I guess it could be because I'm juggling DS1 and 22 week bf DS2. Wake me up in 6 months when it is all easier....

WhispersOfWickedness · 31/05/2012 21:38

Aww, it sounds like it's going really well! I anticipate poo problems here too as DS has never done a poo on the toilet but asks to wee very occasionally. I am also worried about how it's going to go with 9 mo clingy DD to worry about too. We are starting this Saturday (eeek!!) and DH has just informed me he has weds booked off as well, so that is 5 days with his support before I'm on my own!
Hope it's going well for everyone else!

cuggles · 01/06/2012 10:31

Girlsville - never mind to be expected I think your dd1 is doing brilliantly - we are now on day 4 and a 50% success rate but I remember when I tried last time we got better and better until about day 10 then she completely lost interest so I am poised for that. Hawthers it is really stressful - I have a DS just turned one so it is a real juggle to deal with each of their demands and I kick myself when I do "just one thing" before I ask her and she has an accident but onwards and upwards!
Good luck to those starting this weekend!

Girlsville · 01/06/2012 13:47

Cuggles thanks. Today is day 6and we have taken a big step backwards after a goodish day 5 with only a couple of accidents. Dd1 was in a horrible mood this morning she had three bad wee accidents but did then ask to go to the toilet with a poo so at least one success. I do feel we have been making progress every day until today's big regression. Feeling quite downhearted but assume I shouldn't give up? I also have dd2 who just turned one and often get distracted from the potty trying to rescue her from crawling into danger ahhhh!
Also, has anyone's dc become difficult behaviour wise since starting potty trAining? Dd1 has been very bad tempered this we,! Q out of sorts and I wondered if it's connected?

MoragG · 01/06/2012 14:14

Started this morning (DD is 2.4). Nothing all morning despite half hourly sitting on the potty, and then three sets of wet pants/trousers within about an hour and one poo (which I just managed to catch in the potty!). So far she doesn't seem to know in time that she needs to go :-( Have to go out this afternoon to the doctors, which is not ideal but can't be avoided. Think DD is more interested in the chocolate buttons promised than what she has to do to get them! Am hoping she gets the idea a bit better tomorrow...

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/06/2012 08:45

Morag, sounds like us this morning! 2 hours into potty training and we have had a wee on the toilet, wee on the potty ( novelty of the situation I think!) and 3 wee accidents Hmm
That boy can wee! Still, at least the last accident he told me half way through, so he does have some awareness! Grin
Wish me better luck for the next 10 hours until bedtime!!

hawthers · 02/06/2012 09:03

Good luck wow fwiw we had much more initial success with ds when he wasn't wearing any pants or trousers. He got the hang of that then we added them later.

Another poo in the pj trousers today, less well contained than doing it in his pants. And he'd been sat on the potty 30s beforehand. No improvement in 2 weeks and I'm getting totally annoyed. I know I shouldn't and I'm trying not to show it but I don't see how it is ever going to improve.

can I join, starting DS (2.9) today for the second time. So far no hits all misses and five wet pants so far. Can the washing maching cope? The really frustrating thing is that I missed an opportunity for a wee on the potty when I was chasing after 1yo DD. DP is elsewhere. He is sitting on the potty now because I have put it on the favourite TV watching seat - will stay on it all day if I keep Thomas on! Am really stressed about ths - don;t know why as I am usually pretty laid back about parenting things but this has me a bit flummoxed. DP wants to stop after one accident as well so I have to keep convincng him that accidents are par for the course.

RalphGnu · 02/06/2012 09:48

Hi there, can I join? DS (2.5) started potty training last weekend. He took his nappy off and announced he wanted to use his potty. Has been mostly successful, apart from kicking over the potty in excitement when he does a big wee.

Today he did his first poo and then threw up a bit at the smell. Grin

He hasn't mastered pulling his pants down yet so he's still going bottomless. Have bought LOTS of undies in anticipation of the next step. Am going to try taking him out nappy-less today...wish me luck!

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/06/2012 11:18

That sounds just like me, trixie, I am normally mega relaxed but this has been the first thing that has really got me stressed! So, we are nearly halfway through the day and he has done 5 wees on potty and maybe 8 or 9 accidents. I am completely flabbergasted at how much wee one small child can produce! These are not little dribbles either, but massive wees! All wees on the potty have been because I put him there, not because he asks Sad He is starting to smell of wee. I am a little fed up!
Ralph, sounds like it is going really well for you Smile
Grin at being sick from the smell of poo, I cannot wait until I have nothing to do with the bowel habits of the dc!

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/06/2012 11:18

Forgot to say, on the bright side, at least I don't have to worry that he's dehydrated Grin
