Need some hand holding and problem solving as can't get my head around how it is supposed to work.

Really, the pull-ups had nothing to derail [frustrated emoticon]

Day 5 and the only success has been half a wee in the toilet when I plonked her there mid-flow from the floor.

How's everyone else doing?

WhispersOfWickedness · 20/06/2012 14:28

Frustrated here too! After at least half an hour sat on the potty/toilet this morning because I knew he needed a poo, he did one in his pants while we were out Angry
Anybody else got some words of wisdom?! We have Pooland, he is very interested, yesterday he asked me to make up a wee story as well Hmm Wees are fine, no accidents as long as i take him every hour or so, but still not asking to go. I just want to go to sleep and wake up in a few months years when it'll all be over and sorted!

hawthers · 20/06/2012 14:53

Sorry whispers no words of advice but DS1 just suddenly got it last week. Bo idea what changed but since then he's only had one poo on the pants. Think it takes longer for boys to get the poo thing. I found leaving him on the potty while I popped to get a sweetie reward ready worked. Hang on in there - ifypu have wees sorted then the poo will follow I'm sure.

Gah! Things have been going really well, wee-wise, with hardly any accidents. But poos are a bit different. The last two days he's been jiggling about, asking for the potty, not doing anything, not even a wee, then finally doing a gigantic poo at 9 o'clock at night, after getting up umpteen times.

And today, he had god knows how many false potty trips, only to then do TWO poos in his pants. I get so cross, and am probably not great at hiding it.

Maybe bribing him to stay put long enough for a poo to emerge is the way forward.

hawthers · 20/06/2012 19:15

I got truly pissed off about the poos shortly before he finally did one in the potty. DS1 said sorry mummy sorry - I felt like a totally shit mum [:(]

Hmm think I spoke too soon. Another poo in the pants at nursery today...

We are still having poo issues here too, dd pooed in her pants at nursery yesterday. She is either adamant she doesn't need one and does it in her pants, or I sit dd in front of the laptop for a peppa pig marathon which sometimes works.

Can anyone send me poo goes to pooland? I might give it a try.

We are almost there with wees but still having daily accidents at 3.5 weeks in. We have had two dry nappies first thing followed by a mega wee in the potty which is progress but I think dd is getting annoyed with me constantly asking, apparently at nursery she just takes herself off to the bathroom for a wee but at home she rarely asks for the potty. I ask her to get on the potty or loo when I see her holding herself, or jigging about. Maybe I should back off and see how she gets on.

trixie123 · 20/06/2012 21:44

I left DS by himself on the potty today and he did a poo Smile - he's been going off into private corners to do it in his nappy for months so I guess he just wants some privacy. Wees are very good when at home but he won't tell the CM or his key-worker at nursery he needs to go. CM still not being very supportive and if I have the story straight (from my DM who picked him up today) he'd pooed in his pull ups and CM had left him in them. Sad Mum had to change him when she got home, but she's not 100% sure it wasn't a 2nd poo in a clean pair, so don't want to get into a big row but CM seems very anti the whole dealing with poo thing, even though I have said she can throw away pants and I think she might be saying very negative things to DS about it being disgusting and horrible. DS used those words to describe that he'd done a poo Sad. This whole thing is hard enough without having to get loads of other people on board too! Sorry, rant over - hope everyone else is doing ok.

Tee2072 · 21/06/2012 07:28

Hold my hand. Son, 3.0, insisted on wearing his Fireman Sam pants today.

This is after only occasionally sitting on the potty when asked if he wanted to.

We have to go to the shops later by bus. Back in a pull up?!?!

herbaceous · 21/06/2012 11:12

Hey, Tee, I think we were on the same ante-natal thread! All those years ago.

Tee2072 · 21/06/2012 12:19

Hi herb, I think you're right!

herbaceous · 21/06/2012 15:11

I've got a long drive on Saturday, from London to Sheffield. While he can go hours between wees ? though as discussed poos are a bit more Russian Roulette ? his sudden need for the potty doesn't go well with the long gaps between service stations. And if there were multiple false alarms, I might have to kill him.

So, do I put a nappy on him? Or will this confuse things?

dicdicnurse · 21/06/2012 15:56

Yay! I've found you all! I'm not alone in the stressful world of the potty!
We are on day 5 with DD1 2.4. Have had mostly success with wee but rubbish with poos. I've been asking every 10 mins or so but trying not to harass her too much. Yesterday she asked for a nappy back and had a fair few accidents so I was ready to call it quits but this morning before nursery she hopped straight on potty and did a huge wee so im persevering to the weekend.
DD2 is 18 weeks do I'm struggling with managing everything at the moment.

hawthers · 21/06/2012 16:02

dicdic its bloody stressful isn't it. I'd got so used to knowing what was going on with DS1 that it was quite a shock to be back in the bad old world of having no idea.

Also started when DS2 was 21 weeks old si trying to juggle potties with bf is a nightmare. DS2 got popped on and off so often in the early days.

It will get better!

Herbaceous, can you compromise by sticking ds in a pull up and stopping for loo/potty breaks once an hour? You could always just use the potty in the car park rather than going into the services? This will make your journey long but will keep up the training.

I am in two minds about this wedding on Saturday, think I might also do pull up and regular loo breaks rather than pants. Really don't want any puddles in the hotel/ during the ceremony.

Trixie What on earth is your chilminder on about? Has she never had a potty training mindee before? That doesn't sound helpful at all.

herbaceous · 21/06/2012 16:08

It's impossible to get anything done, isn't it. As soon as I get in the shower, DS wants a wee. Refuses to just take his trousers and pants down and do it himself.

When out and about, I can't have a conversation of more than 30 seconds without a false-alarm potty call.

And when I get back, DS is tired and hungry, and needing a poo but not realising it, the cat's yowling, I get dinner on, DS poos pants, have to separate poo-ey pants from him, dispose of poo, dinner is burned, cat is kicked down stairs....

How anyone manages with a new baby I have no idea. Hats off to you!

hawthers · 21/06/2012 16:22

herb just as you describe but with the background noise of DS2 and me screeching

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 21/06/2012 16:38

Well, mostly success today although no sign if poo.

On advice of a mate, I put a pull up over his pants for shopping trip. He was fine until he fell asleep in the pushchair.

I have to work tonight so Daddy is encouraging poo in potty. I think he will poo as soon as his nighttime nappy is on.

Or in the tub Hmm.

herbaceous · 21/06/2012 16:42

DS refuses to poo in a nappy, hates it when it he does it in his pants accidentally, but doesn't seem to associate the 'one in the loading bay' feeling with 'help me mummy. there's a poo in my pants'. Sigh.

herbaceous · 21/06/2012 17:09

Sorry black tea - realise I didn't see your post. I might see how his two days (today and tomorrow) at nursery pan out. Your idea sounds a good compromise, though...

dicdicnurse · 21/06/2012 20:02

Thanks hawthers, its good to hear it gets easier. Dd2 is also being put down mid feed although I try to make sure DD1 has just been on the potty before I start.

Well today has been a different kettle of fish to yesterday. Granted, she has been in nursery most of the day but she came home in a dry pull up, put pants on and after several wees on the potty instigated by her she went to bed having had no accidents!
Has not had a poo today though which worries me a bit as usually she goes at least once a day.
Nursery suggested not using pull ups as they give the feeling of wearing a nappy but I'm petrified of going out without one. I'm worried she'll refuse to go on the potty when out and about plus I'll be having to lug DD2 around too so will struggle to carry everything!

I hope everyone else has had positive days?
I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

hawthers · 21/06/2012 20:13

We had two poos on the potty yey but then a wee on the floor... Not sure why but he used to be really good at wees and rubbish at poos and now it seems to have reversed. He hasn't told me when he needed a wee recently I've just been taking him with me when I know he needs one. Should I just leave him to tell me which may mean more accidents but might also mean success in the end...? What to do?

OP posts:
blackteaplease · 21/06/2012 20:15

I am still generally using a pull up for when I am out and about but in my defence I am 28 weeks pregnant with pgp and no car. Wherever we go we have to walk (very slowly), add into the mix that dd is a pushchair refuser and I can't be doing with hand carrying a potty round with me whenever I leave the house.

If dh is home and we have the car I leave dd in pants and put a mat on the car seat and a potty in the boot, it's so much easier.

Tee2072 · 21/06/2012 20:27

I'm out working tonight and husband sent me this text:

"Pants not 100% successful but will tell you more when you get back"

Hmm
herbaceous · 21/06/2012 22:21

Doesn't sound good Tee.

I have a small potty that handily fits into my general rucksack of shit that I have to take around anyway. So it's no great hardship carrying it around. It's a Becopotty, if anyone's interested!

Today, a thorough wetting incident at nursery, as he didn't want to forgo the car he was playing in by going to the loo. Quite understandable, I'm sure you'll agree. No poo. I'm already dreading tomorrow.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 22/06/2012 07:57

Still getting utterly nowhere, and DD is now begging to return to nappies.

I think we'll try again in a few weeks. What do people think?
