Need some hand holding and problem solving as can't get my head around how it is supposed to work.

We've finally had a poo at nursery and he seems to have got the idea of what a poo feels like before it comes so I'm hopeful we'll have a bit more success. He's been doing it for just over 3 weeks and it is all.finally clicking. Hang on in there

How is everyone getting on? We have had a good day today, no accidents at all at nursery but a cheeky poo in the pants at some point this evening that I missed.

Does anyone know how to get wee out of wellies? I thought I had cleaned dd's yesterday but they are very whiffy today.

trixie123 · 13/06/2012 20:46

how about talcum powder for the wellies? Doing ok with wees here, in fact have been very impressed with him starting to ask to go, but slightly Sad about the CM attitude - after one day with him she said she's not sure he's ready as he didn't tell her he needed to go, or make a big fuss when he had an accident(but he only had one wee accident and went each of the three times she did put him on the potty). I've said she can throw away pooey pants but am slightly concerned that she just would rather not have the hassle and wants us to do it over the summer when she won't see him for 6 weeks (we're teachers). No success with poo but only been about 12 days since we began. Am generally reasonably encouraged with progress (desperately searches for some wood to touch)!

blackteaplease · 13/06/2012 21:00

That's really bad of your childminder given that you are 12 days in and it was the first day back. One accident is not too bad IMO.

Can you have a word with her? You can't put it off until the summer holidays now that you have started.

trixie123 · 14/06/2012 09:53

Oh I will be. Assuming he does continue to do well at home and with us generally I am going to say we want to her to continue. She only has him 3 days out of five and two of those mornings he is at nursery so she won't have to deal with much before the holidays start anyway. I may say ok to pull ups as when we have out him in those he doesn't seem to just revert to just weeing in them and still asks for the potty.

herbaceous · 14/06/2012 10:51

Hello

Can I join in? I started potty training our DS (2.11) on Monday, and things haven't been too bad. The first day there were a lot more wees in trousers than in the potty, but by Tuesday the ratio was much better: potty 10, pants 4, and one poo in the potty!

But this is weird: yesterday we went out for a walk with friends, to a cafe, etc, and even though he kept asking to do a wee, and I'd produce the potty, he then wouldn't do anything. He ended up not doing a wee (in trousers or anywhere) between 9am and 4pm! Even when he fell asleep in the car. He then had a massive one when he got home. Hope this doesn't mean some kind of dislike of weeing in strange places, as it could make life difficult!

Also, he's only done two (small) poos since Monday, and he's usually a two-a-day man. Another thing to worry about...

hawthers · 14/06/2012 13:14

Now I was going post to say that we've got lots of poos in the potty and the wees have been consistently good for ages BUT we had 2 wee accidents and a poo on the pants in the last 24 hrs arse

Welcome herbaceous, hope it goes well for you. Dd seems to be either constipated or witholding poo since commencing potty training. Must try to get more fruit in her and see if that helps.

2 accidents at nursery today, including wee in the shoes. I did buy some jelly sandals for potty training but thanks to the weather they are defunct!

herbaceous · 14/06/2012 19:47

Well, he came back from nursery having been dry all day! He objected to using a potty other than his own for a bit, but soon got over that one.

However, he hasn't done a poo all day. When he got home, he kept saying 'I've done a poo in my bottom', and he did seem desperate, but then wouldn't do it on the potty. In the end, I put a nappy on him in the hope that would entice it out, but no dice. Getting a bit worried now!

blackteaplease · 14/06/2012 20:51

Yesterday I resorted to sitting dd on the potty in front of endless peppa pig until she had done a poo. She kind of goes in a trance when peppa is on so you can do anything to her - cut nails, brush hair etc.

Obviously this wouldn't work as a long term solution.

WhispersOfWickedness · 15/06/2012 08:45

Hi all, I have been lurking, good to hear of all the successes Smile
Well, we gave up and then restarted accidentally! What happened was that we got back late from somewhere one evening and I didn't want to 'waste' a nappy for only an hour before bed, so I asked him if he wanted pants on. Now he refuses a nappy during the day altogether, so we've not got much choice but to carry on!! He is a lot better than before though, he can wait a lot longer between accidents, and will at least admit to needing it if pressed even if he's not asking himself. We've kind of ditched the potty as well, just going to the toilet, he seems a lot happier with that Smile Poos still not really happening, he did manage to do his first little bit yesterday but was followed a couple of hours later by one in the pants, so that's a bit frustrating. Oh well, I do feel like we have turned a corner Smile
Hope everyone remains dry and poo free today Grin

KatMumsnet · 15/06/2012 20:39

blackteaplease We sometimes do exactly that with DS.. Though with Thomas the Tank Engine pre-recorded on Sky+ Blush

herbaceous · 16/06/2012 10:49

We have success! He got home from nursery yesterday, having been dry all day, and did the mother of all poos on the potty. Followed by a few more.

Though must say, I can't wait for him to start using the loo. Carrying a potty full of poo up the stairs, being hindered helped by DS and emptying it into the loo is for some reason much more foul than changing a nappy.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 16/06/2012 17:16

May I join in? Day one here with DD (2.8). I've established that she'd prefer to sit on the toilet than the potty and managed at least to get her sitting there every hour or so, but as yet she has done nothing in the toilet. So far there have been four wees and two poos on the floor. Argh. But she loves her noew knickers, at least. Deeeeeeep breath.

blackteaplease · 16/06/2012 17:56

Breastmilk, we had 3 days of wees on the floor before dd did anything in the toilet and I went nuts with praise when she finally did.

We are now two weeks in and I think wees are cracked but we have taken a backwards step with poos. Dd is no longer witholding but is instead pooing in her pants whilst being adamant she doesn't need a poo. Grrr, very annoying.

We have a wedding to go to next Saturday starting at midday, I'm a bit nervous that she will do a massive poo during the ceremony.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 16/06/2012 18:59

Three days... eeek that must have required patience.

hawthers · 16/06/2012 21:37

blacktea we had right issues with poo but seem to have cracked it. No idea how but did poo goes to pooland and talked about it loads which actually put him off. In the end I backed off massively and then when he said poo I put him on the potty, told him I was off to get marshmallows and sweetie as a reward and came back to a steaming pile of poo! He manages best when we pop out if the room think he needs his privacy.

well the ILs were horrible but OK on the potty front.

things have been going well here, most poo's are in the potty. The ones that haven't been are when she's already gone twice and it's like the last little bit and she doesn't always seem to know she's even done it.

She goes mostly in the potty but is OK with the toilet too.

A few accidents at playgroups but I think as to be expected. We also sometimes have accidents if it is close to nap/bed time.

She is still has a high frequency of wee's so sometimes it seems a like a few accidents a day, but if you look at the ratio of success:accident I think it is quite good. We have a fair few accident free days in the week though. I think we are lucky with the poo is the sense she tends to go at the same time each day.

same here, three days of wees and then something seemed to click. Took her a while to work out the signal that meant she needed to go. Our next step is moving the potty further away as I think half the problem at playgroup is that the toilets are not immediately accessible.

herbaceous · 17/06/2012 18:21

No accidents again today! Without wanting to tempt fate, it seems he's pretty much cracked it within a week.

Is anyone else finding their trainee is especially clingy at the moment? He wants to sit on my lap and have cuddles all the time, which he never used to before. It's lovely, but what with that and constant potty requests it's hard to get anything done!

blackteaplease · 17/06/2012 18:38

that's good news herbaceous, we haven't had a accident free day yet. Dd is very cling all the time so I haven't noticed a change in behaviour arising from potty training.

I had high hopes for today, we went on a father's day outing from 09.30-14.30 with a 45 minute drive each way and decided to brave pants all day. Dd was a star and went to the toilet several times, but once we were home she had two massive wee accidents and I have had to wash two pairs of wellies.

It may have have something to do with the fact that she didn't drink much when we were out and knocked back several drinks when we got back to the house.

trixie123 · 17/06/2012 20:20

sounds like we're all mostly making progress. We got a bit of poo in the toilet today (though found more on the living room floor after Sad) but it was the first time he actually actively pushed out poo in the place I wanted him to so yay! He is quite clingy with me at the moment and wants me around all the time - is being worse than usual when dropped at CM or pre-school. Doing pretty well with wees but needs reminding.

Msinterpret · 17/06/2012 21:45

Hawthers - maybe you are onto something with the privacy thing - I will try that idea of going off to get a treat while she does it, since we've definitely got wees sorted out now (now wee accidents for at least this weekend and we were away too), for the most part but as others have said, she REFUSES to poo on toilet but then does it within next 5mins in her pants.

Otherwise it's a Peppa Pig marathon on the loo here too... Grin

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 18/06/2012 18:12

Getting thoroughly nowhere here. Day 3 and nothing resembling a wee or poo anywhere other than floor, pants or sofa. Any words of wisdom or motivation? DD is at the CM in pull-ups tomorrow... will that derail everything yet further?

herbaceous · 18/06/2012 18:40

Anyone got the constant requests for the potty, a brief sit down, then pants straight up again? It's driving me MENTAL. We were out today, and I spent more time in public toilets than talking to my long-lost friend.

I suspect it's actually him needing a poo, but not recognising it as such, especially as he did two small poos in his pants today in between one of his uber-frequent potty requests.

I need a valium

Msinterpret · 18/06/2012 22:19

breastmilk hope the pull ups don't derail things. I'm no expert but keep at it a couple more days - we found there was a breakthrough then. if not, maybe give it while and try again in a month or so? Confused

Still no poo today in potty, came in nappy this morn but at least a try and a fart Grin so she's getting the idea...
