Need some hand holding and problem solving as can't get my head around how it is supposed to work.

PenguinArmy Perhaps she goes and then decides not to finish, and it's just a continuation of the last wee? DS sometimes decides to go and for whatever reason changes his mind and holds it all in. On the second day of potty training at the weekend, DS didn't wee or poo in 5.5 hours!

hawthers · 07/06/2012 14:37

penguin three days? Who told you that Tosh?! I've heard weeks to months before its all sorted.

Three more poos in pants si far today. He seems to get stage fright si even if I catch him starting he stops and doesn't finish on the potty. Then gets up and 10s later we have pooey pants....

SWMNBN has a book on potty training in three days doesn't she? I'd certainly heard that before, I wasn't expecting 3 days solid of no success and lots of puddles.

We are on day 6, 2 accidents today. Dd has asked for the potty twice this morning which is a bit of progress but then I put a pull up on dd to venture out and now dd won't take it off again. I need to bite the bullet and take her out in pants I think.

We are using stickers as a reward, I made a chart with 25 spaces, she gets a shiny sticker for poos or wees in potty/ toilet and 2 chocolate buttons for every 5 stickers. The problem is that we have nearly finished the chart and are nowhere near finished training. My next step is going to be a sticker for dry pants all day, then when she has say 10 stickers she can choose a small toy as a present.

hawthers · 07/06/2012 15:38

We've got SWMNBN potty training book in a week. Sadly doesn't tackle poo withholding or any problems with it all....

We've done smarties for wees and after about a week he started to forget to ask for one every time and I think he'll just phase it out himself. Our nursery were happy to do this as well.

thanks, I feel a bit better.

It is more confusing than I thought, I naively thought they either seem to be getting or not. She'll have periods of being great and then periods of nothing.

I think what doesn't help the frequent small wees is me asking every 10mins does she need the potty Blush but I am trying not to. That said, we observed this pattern on the very first day before our intervention.

hawthers · 07/06/2012 20:08

After going through four pairs of poo pants we finally at 7pm got a big fat massive on purpose poo in the potty. That is the first one ever. Woop woop. Did the whole praise dancing around ringing gps and I nearly took a picture of it (poo obsessed much me?).

Tomorrow is another day though...

I've been following the mn potty training rules which seen to have worked on wees more or less in a week.

BuntingBeGone · 08/06/2012 16:37

We had a disappointing start to the week (see above) having started on Saturday but Wed/Thurs caught first 2 wees in toilet and today have had only 1 accident (so far...) and she is MUCH keener to go to the toilet now and try might be the addition of choc button to the trying part so things are getting better.

Hang in there everyone!

PenguinArmy · 08/06/2012 19:38

well today once I was up, I didn't have any accidents with DD HOWEVER we went out a lot so there were frequent scheduled potty's and no playgroups or friends round i.e. she didn't get engrossed in a activity. plus she had done her daily morning poo in her nappy when we got her up.

BuntingBeGone · 08/06/2012 19:43

Nice work PenguinArmyDD!

blackteaplease · 08/06/2012 20:16

Sounds good PenguinArmy, we still haven't ventured out in pants yet.

Today was a bit of a cop out as we went swimming and then to soft play with friends so dd was in a pull up from 9.30 until about 2pm. 2 accidents and 2 wees on the potty this afternoon. She is giving signs when she needs a wee, but if you aren't watching for them you miss it and then there is an accident.

Oh well, we will keep plodding along.

hawthers · 08/06/2012 20:18

We got another huge poo in the potty this evening. Without any pre poos in the pants either. I'm amazed. Dare I hope that this is the beginning of DS1 getting the hang of poos. Oh shit I've just jinxed it right there haven't I...

hawthers · 08/06/2012 20:23

Good one penguin dd and hang in there blacktea. I think most of our success is down to DS1's seemingly bladder of steel and our improved ability to spot when he is holding his willy/bum the signs. Hopefully the weekend will be better with back up from DPs

Good work on the poo Hawthers, hopefully your ds has realised that it's not too bad pooing on the potty and will continue to do so.

I'm hoping that a return to nursery next week will help dd, they have mini toilets in their bathroom and she's very keen to be like the bigger girls.

seabuckthorn · 08/06/2012 20:50

Hi all,
How are we all?
How is your DS doing Kate? Tractor pants, I need to get some more interesting pants for DS I think.

Today has been really good! We had one accident but I think it was more my fault as I popped upstairs for 5 minutes and perhaps should have made him sit on the potty before hand!
He had a pull up on for going out this morning, came home and it was dry! It was dry after his nap as well. I'm hoping this wasn't coincidence!
I do take him to the potty every hour but he brings it to me when he wants to go at other times. Haven't quite got the hang of pulling pants up and down yet, anyone got any tips on this one?
DS still isn't keen on pooing on the potty but will on the toilet, he isn't as regular as he was in nappies but I'm hoping that will come! I get very PFB about his bowel movements.

Hope the weekend goes well for us all.

trixie123 · 08/06/2012 23:13

wow, encouraging poo stories here, well done to you guys. Glad I am not the only one resorting to a pull up for soft play. Am using normal pants for other outings (and changing his clothes a lot) but just feel that its not fair on other people at soft play. He will have an accident at this point and I don't want to not take him. Friend gave me grief for it but I think everyone has to sort of feel their own way with it. Am hoping next week with CM and nursery also on the case we might make some poo progress Smile. Good luck everyone!

KatMumsnet · 09/06/2012 20:04

Looks like we're all still hanging in there.

DS is doing well with wees, he lets us know and we literally have to run and get his pants down before he wets himself. He knows how to pull down his pants/trousers and sit down on the potty by himself, but chooses not to Hmm Poos are okay, hit and miss really. We've had more poo in pants than potty lately..

Has anyone sent their DCs into nursery whilst potty training? DS went to nursery twice last week and he's wet/pooed himself each time he needed to go Sad I guess they're not quick on picking up his signals, either that or he's just choosing not to tell them..

blackteaplease · 09/06/2012 21:57

Dd has been asking for the .potty today but she gives you about 30 seconds notice! She will be at nursery for three days next week. I was going to phone them to see if they had a potty to use in the garden as there is no way she will make it back inside in time to use the toilet.

I do think she will have more accidents than at home as us not 1 to 1 care and she'll be engrossed in playing

PenguinArmy · 09/06/2012 22:50

like blackoftea, I think it is to be expected as less 1:1 and they haven't learnt the signals.

I think I have accepted that everybody has, at times, very different definitions of potty training and especially us younger British have very high standards. DD was again fine with me today, but has accidents with DH, I imagine playgroups will also be accident prone next week.

Our challenge is the ILs visiting tomorrow. They would have had her potty trained at 1 if they could. They even tried to potty train her when they were last here. I came in the room to find them holding her over the potty, nappy off etc. I don't suppose there is a way to not tell them Hmm

Msinterpret · 10/06/2012 20:54

(Namechanged back from BuntingBeGone Jubilee name)

Well done everyone!

We had our first 2 actual requests to go to the toilet today. Which resulted in wees, woohoo! So she seems to have outgrown the dislike.

Back to nursery tomorrow, hoping they will be able to ask her if she needs to go every hour or so.... Hmm as she had her only accident today while wacthing Charlie and Lola = too engrossed.

Great news hawthers! I read Poo Goes to Pooland tonight to DD after she did loads of farts but claimed she didn't need to poo, then wee'd/slight poo'd herself. Nice.

KatMumsnet · 12/06/2012 15:27

blackteaplease how did nursery go? And PenguinArmy how were the ILs?

DS had two wees in the potty at nursery yesterday! Grin Followed by two accidents in the afternoon... Progress nevertheless!

blackteaplease · 12/06/2012 17:16

Surprisingly dd only had 1accident at nursery, then another on the walk home. Not too bad a result really. Plus this morning she asked to go for a wee when she woke up which is definite progress as we have been having to prize her out of her night happy the past week.

PeanutButterOnly · 12/06/2012 20:11

Good luck everyone - we sent DS2 into nursery on day 3 of potty training just before half term! And took him out and about wearing his pants from day 1. Had to deal with a puddle in the Oxfam bookshop though! However I think for him transferring completely to pants and not going back to nappies/pull-ups at all worked and was less confusing. He was very resistant at first, with me completely depressed by the whole thing on day 2. He had to be bribed to sit on the potty with smarties. But then a sudden break-through around day 7 and has gone forward from there.

But it also depends on their personalities - DS2 was never anxious about it at all, unlike my DS1 a few years ago who ended up with constipation issues and still witholds wee and poo at 8yo Sad

PeanutButterOnly · 12/06/2012 20:18

Lol Hawthers - our DS seems to have a bladder of steel too. Having had 3 DCs, I go to the loo at least 3X as often as he does. It's quite a surprise really! Also agree that it's great sharing potty training with GPs or other people like nursery if you can. I went back to work for day 3, 4 and 5 of potty training and then day 8 DH and I went away to a party for the night. We were lucky to have support from my parents Grin. It just made the whole thing less intense.

Msinterpret · 12/06/2012 21:22

blackteaplease My DD woke me up this morning saying 'Mummy, I need a wee!' too Grin

Our first day back at nursery went well too - no accidents! - although one on the floor when we got home... No poos in the potty yet though and she seems really resistant. Well, Hawthers upthread showed it seems to be all about carrying on and hopefully they'll get it.

Any more advice for the poo side of things?
