Hey everyone. Haven't caught up properly, although I have seen that poor J has had a bump to the head. Hope he's ok star

to no1

So DD finally decided to arrive Smile She's totally worth the wait and the hard work though! Delivery suite was packed when we arrived on Thursday, they kept me waiting in the foyer having intense contractions every two minutes for over half an hour. Then they put me in triage on a monitor. Finally got to the pool room about 3ish, took a further half hour before a midwife managed to get to us. They were actually talking about closing the unit and turning away any new patients because they were so swamped!

Labour was much quicker than it was with S, but much MUCH harder. Pushing at the end was intense and uncontrollable, but she got a bit wedged. It seems that she had her arm up alongside her head and this was stopping her from getting all the way down. MW encorouged me to change position and we guess this made her move her arm, as she came down very quickly after this. She was born in the water, and I was the first person to touch her, picked her out the water and sat there cuddling until the placenta came out a few minutes later then they cut the cord. Felt incredibly weak and shaky after so it took me ages to get out the pool.

So I had about 4hrs established labour as I was 4cm at3pm and she was born at 7.09. She's gorgeous but so shockingly big! She has the most enormous cheeks I've ever seen on a baby. Can tell she had her arm up by her head as she had a ridge running down the side of her head and has a bruise on her hand where it got squished.

Anyway, going to stop waffling on now. Hope everyone is doing well today :)

Queen how fantastic you have her now and while obviously big babies bring their own problems in labour (voice of bitter experience due to ds2's massive size) it is so comforting in the newborn days to think how strong and robust they are. Sounds as if the early part of hos was pretty stressful, wtf were they going to do with new people starting labour if they shut down?? You sound very happy, hope ds takes to his new dsis and that you all enjoy a nice time at home together now. Really pleased for you Smile

Crispy you smartarse handcarved potato slice thanks for your tender words of wisdom. Grin Apart from that I do admit you are a legend (in ds1 parlance) and deserve a really treaty birthday (and sounds as if you are getting it!!). Hope dh in good/better form now and able to enjoy it with you. Send you both a hug Smile.

Your poor dad though, parents being ill is so distressing. dp's dad is ill at the mo so lots of sympathy from here. Winter is such a nightmare for older people with any kind of tendency to lung stuff, hopefully there will be some snowdrops around soon to give your pa a tiny glimpse of a warm spring on the way.

Have made Vic sponge for sister's birthday & peanut biscuits, trying to think of something interesting to do with a sandwich for birthday tea.

I didn't mean to draw unwarranted sympathy, when I said find it difficult to post at the moment I didn't mean due to emotional blockage more time constraints and the usual thing of having missed 3 days then feeling would be rude to contribute without having read back, not having time to do so, starting, getting called away, not finishing, blah blah and also any computer time I get I have to work. All rather dull.

Ursula DS1 can often be heard singing 'Big bad handsome man' from the other albumHmm. I wrote (or started) a few songs last month and realised they have been v influenced by Imelda May, though perhaps a bit more 40s swing/jazz. Still not managed to pin down DH to help me develop them (I've done the 10% inspiration bit, just can't face the 90% perspiration by myselfGrin.) Promise to share when there's more than just me singing into a phone.

Hopefully off for a family trip to the zoo (well, mahoosive wildlife park, nothing like cosy little Bristol) this avo as it seems relatively sunny. We got a promotional booklet from them with our new annual passes and inside is a stunning promotional pic of BIL & SIL from their wedding there 3yrs agoShock. Kids were totally confused LOL.

Ya'll are going to make me Goog le Imelda.Smile

Silky, it is strange to see folks you know on promo books. You'd think I get out a lot around here as I've would up on a one for a yearly kids fair and twice for our kids museum. Hmm

Blueberry did you notice my kids' attire for the event yesterday. DD1 fit herself into DD2's shirt. LOL! She was so excited I just let it go and put DD2 in her old shirt. DD2 kept following DD1 around saying, "MY SHIRT SIS! MY SHIRT!"Grin

We are bracing for snow. We could get as much as 8 inches.ShockHmm It will close schools.Hmm That's fine. I'm ready for a break. I've got so much going on tomorrow. The snow is working in my favor for once.

Can we talk strollers for a moment? I think I'm going to take one of my own to the kingdom. This gives me a reason to purchase a new one.Wink Or borrow one if I can. For our HUGE 2y olds, what ride is working best? She can stop the wheels with her feet in our Jo ovy. The cheap umbrella I bought when our good umbrell broke she can climb out of...actually she can walk with the stroller attached to her body.Shock I'm leaning away from renting a park strol ler for numerous reasons. Yesterday's test proved for me I need to have something she feels secure in, that I can LOCK HER IN, while we are vacationing.

Hello Smile

TS ds2 is in the Maclaren that I got when he was 6mo. Fits fine and he can't escape when strapped in.

star how's your brave little J with his war wound? Hope your booking in appt went ok?

Hi ursula and no1, we miss you both so come back soon!

I'm just taking the boys to a 'fun' session at swimming. Fun for whom though? Hmm Wish me luck.

Dissertation writing starts in earnest tomorrow. Just got to do the findings, analysis and conclusions. Have 2 weeks to do it....

hey again all.
Hi No1 good to see you again :)

urs we asked the mws there about what happens to the people turned away. Apparently first course of action is that all community midwives get called in to check that women phoning up are actually in labour. The ones who are then have to go to the nearest hospital that has space for them. Some women in the past have had to go to LONDON even apparently! But they say it's just not safe past a certain point if there's women labouring/delivering in the corridors and not enough midwives to look after them and the babies.

S is being lovely with E thank goodness. E is soooo placid and calm. It really highlights what hard work S was! She just seems to take everything in her stride. Hoping this continues! :)

cece I have a friend training to be a social worker in Nottingham and she too has 2 weeks to finish her dissertation. She seems a lot more stressed than you are! I tip my hat to your Jedi cool.

TS we also have a Maclaren. Well, two actually - a Techno (bit more heavy duty but still v manageable) and a Volo (ultra lightweight, can carry over your shoulder but tips up easily...so probably not one to keep R suitably restrained Grin).

Def give Imelda May a google, she's good fun.

DS is doing fine after his incident :) The wound has been fully stuck together and seems not to bother him at all, and he's been in high spirits all weekend, very cute. We took him to see this this morning, his first experience of live theatre...he was utterly entranced and seemed quite lost in the story. The show was really good and just the right length. Now he is zoning out in front of Cars Blush while DH prepares for his five interviews next week and I roast a chicken.

Grrr big post lost!

TS I wouldn't take a new stroller to a theme park, it'll just get nicked or she'll decide she doesn't need one and you'll have to push it around, keeping an eagle eye on it all day.

Report
TwilightSurfer · 09/01/2011 18:51

Silks I'll have 65 days to "break it in." What's one or two stroller scratchs anyway. It's a utility piece of equipment. Bumps, scraps, spills...that's all par for the course. In the end I'll still be able to pass it on or sell it. If it makes life easier for us then it's worth it. I'm all about EASE. Wink

I'm actually totally excited now. I've just bargained my double stroller off. That will almost pay for the new stroller. If I can unload my jogger then the new stroller should be a wash. JOY!!

R and I are piled up under the covers enjoying our computers. She has T oy S tory 3 playing and I have a thousand browser screens open...chatting, shopping, researching, and so on. DH is taking DD1 to find a snow disc so they can play in the blizzard that should arrive late tonight. FUN!! I'm making a point to be happy and relax today. All work and no play make for a dull TS.Wink

What's everyone else up to today? Join me.Smile

We have just eaten an enormous roast dinner: chicken, potatoes, steamed veg, lashings of gravy. Was delicious. Once DH comes down from putting DS to bed, I'm going to make him sort out a steamed pudding and custard Blush This is one hungry baby I'm incubating here.
