Not meant in the spirit of nastiness or taste-bashing but, I don't get why people get even vaguely hot under the collar about...

Coldplay
REM
U2
Pink Floyd
Belle & Sebastian

(oh and Genesis, but shurely no-one likes them anyway )

What are your enigmatic over-raters?

The Smiths (yes, stick those gladioli up your arse before someone does it for you, you whining northern bellend)
Radiohead (oh shut UP you miserable twat)
Coldplay (What you need is a good shag and a cheeseburger)
The Stone Roses (Innovative my arse, you're just stoned and as boring as every other drug-addled fuckwits)
Pink Floyed (the original whiny bedwetting fucking bastards the minute Sid Barratt Housing left).

'Coldplay (What you need is a good shag and a cheeseburger)'

LMFAO!

How true!

meridian · 06/06/2008 14:58

coldplay... i just don't get it...
the majority of prog rock.. I really don't get it

queen... aside from a rather embarassing obsession with the Higlander film soundtrack

abba... DH likes em.. I can't stand it..

travis... god I hate whingy whiney music

oasis... perhaps its a British thing and being american I just don't get it..

robby williams... not great but I really don't get it

later U2 stuff

i'm sure there are a ton more thats all I can think of right now... will troll through rest of the thread now

BigGitDad · 06/06/2008 14:58

I always thought The Darkness were a poor imitation of Queen. They did nowt for me.

2shoes · 06/06/2008 15:00

I can't believe I forgot cold play well I can really. what drivel.

meridian · 06/06/2008 15:05

BigGitDad-- oh god I loath the Darkness... totally fricken annoying

PrimulaVeris · 06/06/2008 15:12

I quite like Coldplay actually

On occasions, I even quite fancy Chris Martin

And I haven't even touched the Friday afternoon wine yet ...

Tortington · 06/06/2008 15:13

"greatness" i understand is subjective.

but i think it is being mistaken for POPULAR here.

not in anylife time would westlife and take that be considered.

nor for that matter 'The Darkness'

BigGitDad · 06/06/2008 15:18

Custardo, since when have posters paid attention to the thread title when putting their opinions on them??

Ecmo · 06/06/2008 15:20

Bros

or does noone else remember them

are we supposed to be doing current bands? am I a bit out of touch?

SirJimmySeville · 06/06/2008 15:23

Yes Custard, there's a whole world of difference between

"Lifted by the Lighthouse Family is a great song"

and

"I worship at the altar of Bono"

Disclaimer: neither of these are my opinions

OP posts:
margoandjerry · 06/06/2008 15:32

I know this heretical but I really don't like the Clash. I think their songs are so-so. And I'm a Londoner and a music fan so I am obliged by law to love them.

totalmisfit · 06/06/2008 15:47

U2

Muse

The Who

Kaiser Chiefs

Coldplay

totalmisfit · 06/06/2008 15:49

mademez - and re your Stone Roses comments. Their music is orgasmically good.

harleyd · 06/06/2008 15:52

oh lol @ the darkness
they really amused me when i saw them play the tennants festival..im unsure though if they could be considered as one of the greats

harleyd · 06/06/2008 15:54

pink floyd are amazing

Niecie · 06/06/2008 16:36

Beatles and Pink Floyd

Just had a look at our CD collection convinced DH had some awful dirge I can't bear to listen to (apart from Pink Floyd and too much Dylan) but was pleasantly surprised on the whole, at our good taste.

One little gem he does have that I can't stand though is Duffy - somebody tell her we live in the 21st century not the 1960's -boring

Oh and my pet hate, is Steve Wonder. Cannot understand what is so great about him.

CrushWithEyeliner · 06/06/2008 16:39

Westloife

The Beatles

Miami Sound Machine

PSML at the Lighhouse family I forgot about them, made a ridiculous amount of cash

bluefox · 06/06/2008 16:41

How can anyone not like Muse?

madamez · 06/06/2008 17:26

I don't like Bob Marley, either. And agree totally with Margo about the Clash: SHould I Stay Or SHould I Go was Ok, the rest of it is just 'meh'.

bogie · 06/06/2008 17:29

Coldplay
the beatles
maddona
kylie

donnie · 06/06/2008 17:34

James Blunt - makes me want to chew razorblades

Maroon 5 - see above comments

Madonna - 50 year old legs hoisted into a size 8 leotard is NOT a good look

Queen - why????

Sting - just piss off back to your mansion with that stuck up servant beating wife of yours!!!

VictorianSqualor · 06/06/2008 17:40

I'm so pleased everyone has said Coldplay.

It's chris martins whiney droney voice, if only he'd let someone else sing.

Radiohead -Thom Yorke is a cunt, (this can also be read Radiohead changed to 'The Smiths, and thom yorke becoming'Morrissey').

Keane - Argghhhhhhhhhhh, please. just. go. away.

Elliot Smith - Not a great loss to the music world.

Pink Floyd - More whiney shit.

VictorianSqualor · 06/06/2008 17:44

The only ones I don't really agree with on this thread are Nirvana, Libertines/Babyshambles (two different bands with different sounds there, just the same lead singer), Oasis, Stone Roses, GnR and the Foo's.
