Not meant in the spirit of nastiness or taste-bashing but, I don't get why people get even vaguely hot under the collar about...

Coldplay
REM
U2
Pink Floyd
Belle & Sebastian

(oh and Genesis, but shurely no-one likes them anyway )

What are your enigmatic over-raters?

The thing with the Beatles is that even if you don't like their stuff they did change the whole state of the Pop music industry in the 60s, in a way than no group even has before , or since.

Elvis did the same thing. I can't personally stand his stuff, but I have to accept that he revolutionised pock and roll.

the beatles were the same

cocolepew · 02/06/2008 21:00

lol at pock and roll. I'm going to use that

Blandmum · 02/06/2008 21:01

good one even for me!

Martyr to acne he was, Elvis! What a guy.

Jailhouse Pock was one of his biggies!

cocolepew · 02/06/2008 21:04

I shouldn't laugh. On another thread someone was looking for fancy dress ideas for her DD, who's a wheelchair user. The topic was TOTP through the ages.

I suggested Thomas the Tank Engine and Postman Pat.

I even included pictures

pinkteddy · 02/06/2008 21:12

Have to agree with Tinker on the Beatles. Also how can anyone say Elvis if you don't like Jailhouse Rock, King Creole etc etc you gotta be dead from the waist down I'm sorry. Here's my five FWIW

Yes, beck absolutely. Never got him. Plays lots of instruments and may be talented but not a single song appeals to me.

And Coldplay.

Beatles like lots of people - their music doesn't appeal much to me, but like MB said earlier in thread, I can understand that they were massive at the time. It would have helped if we had been there!

Others for me: The Divine Comedy, Jamiroquai, Prince. Yuck to all of them.

aDad · 03/06/2008 17:18

mind you not sure if anyone would argue jamiroquai were great

aDad, I think it helps that i was there for the Beatles See how old I am!

They were revolutionary.

I listened to the album 1, prompted by this thread and it is astonishing to see how thier music and writing developed of the 6 year they were producing records.

16 number 1s in 6 years and none of the number ones were on albums

Kindersurprise · 03/06/2008 17:25
