Top 5 bands whose 'greatness' you totally fail to understand

Not meant in the spirit of nastiness or taste-bashing but, I don't get why people get even vaguely hot under the collar about...

Coldplay
REM
U2
Pink Floyd
Belle & Sebastian

(oh and Genesis, but shurely no-one likes them anyway )

What are your enigmatic over-raters?

Crikey Marina!!!I saw The Beautiful South and REM at Huddersfield footie ground (Galpharm Stadium I think it is called now). I bet we bumped into each other without even knowing it.

Bruce Springsteen
Meatloaf
Queen

(Will now read rest of thread to see if anyone agrees with me)

Sorry to offend choosyfloosy - I did wonder (pardon the pun) if it might be tad contraversial to suggest Steve Wonder was anything less than great but his voice drives me insane.

I admit I haven't listened to one of his albums but I really couldn't bear it.

Glad I'm not the only one to say The Beautiful South, though again probably not a Great band. They used to get good reviews though. IMO Travis could kick their arse.

niecie Stevie Wonder? I'm not dealing with that well. I guess if you don't like his stuff, you don't like his stuff, but have you listened to Talking Book? Tell me that's not an incredible album. [strokes chin]

Oh, and agree with custy that "greatness" is bening confused with popularity on this thread. Have skim-read it mostly but...

Oh god, just seen Duffy mentioned. She is awful! Shockingly derivative and manufactured.

The only ones I don't really agree with on this thread are Nirvana, Libertines/Babyshambles (two different bands with different sounds there, just the same lead singer), Oasis, Stone Roses, GnR and the Foo's.

I'm so pleased everyone has said Coldplay.

It's chris martins whiney droney voice, if only he'd let someone else sing.

Radiohead -Thom Yorke is a cunt, (this can also be read Radiohead changed to 'The Smiths, and thom yorke becoming'Morrissey').

Keane - Argghhhhhhhhhhh, please. just. go. away.

Elliot Smith - Not a great loss to the music world.

Pink Floyd - More whiney shit.

Beatles and Pink Floyd

Just had a look at our CD collection convinced DH had some awful dirge I can't bear to listen to (apart from Pink Floyd and too much Dylan) but was pleasantly surprised on the whole, at our good taste.

One little gem he does have that I can't stand though is Duffy - somebody tell her we live in the 21st century not the 1960's -boring

Oh and my pet hate, is Steve Wonder. Cannot understand what is so great about him.
