Not meant in the spirit of nastiness or taste-bashing but, I don't get why people get even vaguely hot under the collar about...

Coldplay
REM
U2
Pink Floyd
Belle & Sebastian

(oh and Genesis, but shurely no-one likes them anyway )

What are your enigmatic over-raters?

listen to this rem song please don't write them off

Sidge · 23/05/2008 23:32

And I know I'll get shot down for this but I really don't understand what was so amazing about the Beatles.

The odd song is good but on the whole I just think - huh??

southeastastra · 23/05/2008 23:35

the beatles were bloody great yes you should be ashamed sidge

Tinker · 24/05/2008 00:03

I can't take anyone seriously who doesn't get the Beatles. If they can't see how they devloped in such a short period of time and how much influence they still have on so many bands, then their knowledge of music is really questionable.

Agree about teh Eurythmics though. Cannot stand Annie Lennox - I know she can "sing" etc but, god, she leaves me cold because her humourlessness and taking herself oh so seriously shines through.

Sidge · 24/05/2008 09:35

Let me rephrase myself - I can see why they were so adored in their time and the influence they had on the music industry and pop culture. But their music wasn't as amazing as some bands.

Old Beatles stuff but Paul Mccartney can feckoff and stick his banjo up his arse and get that stupid mooney look off his face.
Love Artic Monkeys - lyrics so clever
REM are a bit like Annie Lennox - totally humourless.

Doors

Elvis
The Who

and then almost anything new which all just sounds like something which has been done before to my geriatric ears, only this time with more self conscious hairstyles.

hubarbspong · 02/06/2008 20:52

Beatles
Radiohead
U2
Coldplay
Nirvana

....if I could I'd add Led Zep as well

TheArmadillo · 02/06/2008 20:56

The Beatles - I really hate The Beatles, I can't see their appeal at all.
U2
Coldplay
Black Sabbath
Travis - and basically all indie bands that started around that time and most of them since. Indie used to be great.

TheArmadillo · 02/06/2008 20:58

Oh and can I have DIdo as an extra as she ain't a band.

Makes my ears bleed - my idea of torture would be being forced to listen to her music. Absolutely unbearable.
