Not meant in the spirit of nastiness or taste-bashing but, I don't get why people get even vaguely hot under the collar about...

Coldplay
REM
U2
Pink Floyd
Belle & Sebastian

(oh and Genesis, but shurely no-one likes them anyway )

What are your enigmatic over-raters?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 23/05/2008 22:43

op you can't have rem it's not allowed

paddingtonbear1 · 23/05/2008 22:43

the beatles
U2
Oasis
Travis

I like some Genesis, I don't care, I will admit that.
and some REM!

TsarChasm · 23/05/2008 22:45

Coldplay (put a sock in it)
Guns n Roses (why)
U2 (call it a day)
James Whingey Blunt ()
Anything to do with Bob Geldof (zzzzzz)

queen2shoes · 23/05/2008 22:45

harpomarx will this change your mind

sunflowervalley · 23/05/2008 22:49

The Beatles
The Smiths
Abba
Oasis
Duran Duran

Marina · 23/05/2008 22:51

Coldplay
The derivative and rather pathetic Fratelli Brothers
Definitely Belle and fecking Sebastian
Led Zeppelin
The Grateful Dead

southeastastra · 23/05/2008 22:52

the grateful dead marina!

and led zep

why don't you like the dead?

harpomarx · 23/05/2008 22:53

nice link queen (though where did they get that hilariously deadpan crowd from? or were people just like that in the sixties?)

I'm back with you!

Twinklemegan · 23/05/2008 22:54

The Beatles
Rolling Stones
U2
Led Zeppelin
The Who

Many, many others (most of DH's CD collection?)

However, I have been converted to:
Pink Floyd
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple (ish)

SirJimmySeville · 23/05/2008 22:54

REM were much looved when I was a stooodent and I heard too much, I think it was the Automatic For The People's 10 singles that finally did for me. And you would think it would be that dreadful rap on the album before...

I bought a new stereo in '93 and swore that REM would never be played again by me. I've stuck to my guns.

OP posts:
Marina · 23/05/2008 22:55

They're so boring SEA to me, anyway
I know millions think otherwise...

southeastastra · 23/05/2008 22:55

eurythmics

fishie · 23/05/2008 22:55

i love led zep
and acdc

geezabreak · 23/05/2008 22:56

oasis
coldplay
jimi hendrix

Marina · 23/05/2008 22:56

Now you see I think Annie Lennox has a wonderful voice you keep Jerry and I'll have Annie, although Dave Stewart is a sad scrote and no mistake

southeastastra · 23/05/2008 22:56

lol twinkle you like blacksabbath but hate the stones

fishie · 23/05/2008 22:57

ah marina. have you heard rem's latest? much like monster, i do like it.

Marina · 23/05/2008 22:59

Yes, it is excellent isn't it fishie. Belated return to old form. I do love REM as she remembers how they thrashed their way through What's the Frequency, Kenneth in Huddersfield on the Monster Tour

Sidge · 23/05/2008 23:02

Coldplay

Sting. Possibly the most awful solo artist ever.

fishie · 23/05/2008 23:03

i think our rem is not what others hear. they can be unbearably drippy (rem not others)

[dead jealous re seeing]

hifi · 23/05/2008 23:07

agree sidge, sting is crapolla, went to see him years ago with a bf, couldn't wait for him to finish. so self indulgent.

Marina · 23/05/2008 23:09

For a lot of people REM = Losing My Religion, not Crush with Eyeliner or Bang and Blame, sadly
I did have to sit through The Beautiful South first fishie

ladymariner · 23/05/2008 23:10

my dh is a massive rem fan, i always thought they were music to hang yourself to but then I heard their new album and i have to say it is fantastic!!! Defy anyone not to jig about to Man-Sizes Wreath!

Anyway, back to the post:
coldplay
radiohead
kylie
phil collins
police

ladymariner · 23/05/2008 23:11

sized, not sizes

Twinklemegan · 23/05/2008 23:12

I just don't really like the Stone's music, or at least I don't think it deserves the meteoric status it has.

I like the early Black Sabbath stuff, before Ozzy left. I like the rhythmic guitar riffs and the long Tony Iomi (sp?) solos.
