To have not realised I have a professional vacuuming qualification that I didn't know about?

My dh was doing his version of the vacuuming today. It took 5 whole minutes!! He then told me I should hoover after him to get the edges, under furniture etc that he doesn't know how to get. I politely informed him that he could take the bulky head off and do it. His response, "I'm not a professional hooverer, you'll have to do it."

I cannot believe I have allowed him to touch a hoover when I am so skilled in this area. I of course hung my head in shame and set off for a 48 hour stint of grovelling. 🤣

So tell me. What professional skills have you all unknowingly acquired?

lighthearted he did manage to do it in the end.

I can fold and iron pesky fitted sheets.
In my airing cupboard they look lovely, all stacked up so neatly.

LunchBoxPolice · 04/03/2023 17:28

I am a professional washing machine operative. It’s incredibly tasking.

I could definitely do with a fitted sheet folding tutorial. I'm rubbish at it. Right now I do more of a scrunch and tuck.

Amazing dishwasher stacker here, among other things. Opening the dishwasher, pulling out the tray and stacking from the back is a particular skill

Such hard work. I hope you get a nice lie down after every load.

I should also mention putting in a new bin bag when the old one is overflowing. My eye is just right on that one

UpUpAndAwol · 04/03/2023 17:32

I’m a professional dishwasher stackerer. It’s an art form where nobody else seems to be qualified to know how to stack the plates so they actually wash 🤔

3LittleFishes · 04/03/2023 17:33

Well I am surprised at all of these qualifications.
I am so stealth like in my duties my husband believed in the cleaning fairy for a while.
He was swiftly told that notion was incorrect.

PuttingDownRoots · 04/03/2023 17:35

I'm.a PA. I keep track of wherever everyone is supposed to be...

Twiglets1 · 04/03/2023 17:35

I’m just amazing at noticing items that appear on the bottom step and need carrying upstairs.

WarningToTheCurious · 04/03/2023 17:35

I have a degree in reading instruction booklets. My thesis was entitled “Why reading the instructions is more effective than squinting at things, hitting them with a hammer and swearing lots.”

Expert Toilet Roll Replacer here. I bought the simplest holder possible but still it appears that I am the only person in the house who can operate it.

Enidcat5 · 04/03/2023 17:38

I have a master's in picking stuff up off the floor

Cyclistmumgrandma · 04/03/2023 17:40

DH is the professional dishwasher stacker here. If I do it he only rearranges the contents to his own exacting standards, so I've stopped doing it!

May I suggest taping written instructions above the toilet roll holder to make it easier, maybe with a diagram incase they're more visual learners.

Interesting as in this house, my OH owns the vacuum cleaners, owned the iron and ironing board before I freecycled both when we moved, and stacks the dishwasher, does the washing and gets it dry and folds it up and leaves it on the bed.

I'm obviously missing several quals when I bunked off school all those years ago. What a shame.

murasaki · 04/03/2023 17:41

A PG qualification in noticing the floor needs sweeping and cat litter tray maintenance studies.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/03/2023 17:42

I have a BA Hons in 'picking shit up that dh leaves lying around him in little piles'.

Moraxella · 04/03/2023 17:42

I know where everything is; even things that he has packed in his work bag! And I can recall it with such speed that it makes even trying to look for it pointless. 💁‍♀️

murasaki · 04/03/2023 17:43

I am also the household milk monitor. It was more fun at school when I was 6.

GlassBunion · 04/03/2023 17:43

I'm an expert botanist and I'm able to water plants just by dint of my incredible ability to fill a watering can and administer to the various plant life in our home.

I've also got a PhD in toilet shit stain management. AMA...🙄

Bunnyishotandcross · 04/03/2023 17:44

I am an actual professional cleaner. This prevents anyone but me operating cleaning products under our roof.

murasaki · 04/03/2023 17:46

Oh yes, and an MBA in reminding him to do his tax return and deal with his car tax and insurance ( not my car, I don't drive, and am PAYE).

666roses · 04/03/2023 17:47

I'm skilled in many areas, we are off on holiday today and DH asked how many pairs of boxer shorts does he need, then moaned as it would be easier if I packed for him (last time he forgot tshirts) I had to remind him im not his mother, then reminded him that was the only thing he had to do as I had packed the dogs things to go to the respective family members who are looking after them and done the housework while he was looking for his snorkeling mask.
I'm also an expert finder of things that I haven't mislaid.

Ihavedogs · 04/03/2023 17:48

I am not sure where to start, however DH has an equal amount of professional qualifications in other areas, so all in all, it works out pretty well. Sometimes we each let one of the amateurs or unqualified to have a field day as neither of us are very precious about our gained by experience ‘professional qualifications’ 😃
