Bad WFH habits

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

Yep, guilty of so many of these. I get up as late as possible, quick shower, coffee ☕ and switch the pc on. I've started to eek out an extra day before washing hair and even then i leave it to dry all day. I only wear a touch of make up for our weekly teams meeting instead of full face every day. I've bought lots of warm comfy loungewear. Snacking I'm not too bad on but I love having a cooked lunch instead of a miserable ham sandwich. Not had a daytime nap unless I was under the weather.

Microsoft Team Meeting backgrounds are bliss, no way would my team know that my fake office background is actually me sitting propped up in bed with a top on by pj bottoms. I have got it down to a T, our meetings are always at 10, so I wake to the alarm at 8.45, log on and check my email while in bed, go down get myself a coffee and cornflakes, sit munching it in bed then brush my hair (use batiste dry shampoo as too lazy to wash it most days) then check my angle on the screen, adjust the lighting etc, so you cant see the many chins I have developed since March. I record the meeting (as note taker) but often claim my camera is broken go on mute and have a nap as I can catch up with the meeting later that I have recorded.

Its bad I know but I find as time goes on I am getting lazier and lazier, (also fatter)

UnaCorda · 08/10/2020 22:18

@Iamthewombat

Eating a Dime bar for ‘breakfast pudding’ after boiled eggs. Shameful. I stopped when my jeans got tight.

Having TV on in the background whilst working and getting too involved in Judge Judy.

Grin I love breakfast pudding. It's usually a biscuit for me, sometimes cake. Not much excuse when the "main course" (cereal) already has chocolate in it...

Staying in my dressing gown all day.

I work 8-6, 3 days a week. I get up at 6.45am and dh and I do the morning rush together getting the dc breakfasted and ready. Then dh disappears with the dc at 7.45am to do the school run and I sit at my desk with a coffee.

Very often I’m still in my dressing gown when the dc get home. I’ve consciously tried to turn over a new leaf several times but it slips back 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have no issue on the two days I’m not in work by 8 and have to do the school run.

thecatsthecats · 08/10/2020 22:18

@Amani

Waking up at 729am for a 730am start (freshen your during morning break though!)
Yep. I get screen breaks for migraines. My alarm goes off at 8am, I switch on my laptop at 8.01, take my first screen break immediately and get back to my desk at 8.07 with tea.

Mind you, I've been furiously productive. I don't subscribe to the idea that you have to be at your desk to be working.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/10/2020 22:18

I do have some standards, I still straighten my hair. Well the front bit that can be seen if I have to go on camera.

SpikeyBaby · 08/10/2020 22:19

The inventor of dry shampoo deserves a Nobel prize imo. It's amazing.

chefcarl · 08/10/2020 22:20

Officially gone to the dogs now. Stayed in pj's all day today.

Still v busy though.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/10/2020 22:20

I've never used dry shampoo, I appear to be missing out!

Oct18mummy · 08/10/2020 22:21

Painting my nails on conference calls and using my laptop fan to dry them

Becles · 08/10/2020 22:21

I adjusted my camera so I can't be seen below the neck - no bra unless I leave the house.
Teams on my phone so I can have meetings while hanging out the washing, over Bluetooth in the car or in bed.
Watching law and order or murder she wrote while writing reports. Churned through so many series of light stuff on streaming (discovered parks and rec, American housewife, downtown abbey)

Bad things
Not having lunch breaks or working till 8 or 9
Forgetting how to accessorise or clothes that match
My wardrobe shrank

Jenasaurus · 08/10/2020 22:21

On the minus side I often end up doing my work in the evening after hours. I am a night owl so probably more productive then

MintyMabel · 08/10/2020 22:21

Napping is not a bad habit. When I drove to work, I used to nip out at lunch to my car for a nap. It’s far more comfortable to do on the sofa, although I seem to not need it so much WFH, probably because I get up later.

Which brings me on to my bad habit - still being up at 1pm because I know I don’t have to get up with an alarm in the morning. Sometimes I’m still working til 11pm (because I spent the day not doing work...) but mostly it’s just still playing games on the iPad.

Other bad habits - I haven’t worn a bra since March.

And the snacking.

Lurkingforawhile · 08/10/2020 22:22

I have nothing to add that someone hasn’t already said. I just worry about how many amazon boxes I’ll have after another 6 months of this. Addicted to deliveries, they give me something to look forward to. Also far far too much mumsnet Hmm

Jenasaurus · 08/10/2020 22:23

The horrible realisation that I fit only comfy non-work clothes the day before I am asked to go in to the office to collect my new work laptop!

MintyMabel · 08/10/2020 22:23

Yes, I’m way more productive between 8 and 12 at night than I am between 8 and 12 during the day. But, my boss thinks I’m just dedicated because I send emails at 10pm.

SpikeyBaby · 08/10/2020 22:24

It makes me laugh when people moan about 'lack of productivity' when wfh.

I was far less productive schlepping into the office 5 days a week, getting sidetracked by colleagues constantly, embroiled in pointless small talk, being shattered all the time from the commute, wasting hours and hours in meetings.

Now I work longer, and harder, and more effectively. I just do it in yesterday's pants.

MakeAPeaCry · 08/10/2020 22:24

I really hope you lot are not exaggerating for comic effect. I literally and honestly do most of the things here and hope I am not alone.

Specifically:

Logging on then buggering off for 30mins coffee and a chat in the kitchen

Stopping for a mid afternoon snooze if tired.

Stopping to take a shower or have a bath, mobile on hand the check mail

Running all kinds of errands, eg taking the dog to the groomer.

Forgetting to brush my teeth until lunchtime ( or later Blush)

Watching TV

Online shopping and mn during meetings.

I really hope I never have to rediscover a proper work ethic!

Yes and having to put pants on to answer the door to the deliveries (often in my nightshirt untill midday)
GetRid · 08/10/2020 22:25

Agree, productivity has not gone down despite pj wearing and mid-morning yoga! If anything I'm more efficient and switched on WFH

Jenasaurus · 08/10/2020 22:26

Today a colleague that lives near me offered to bring me some masks. I spent 10 minutes panicking as I had to look like I hadnt just got out of bed.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 08/10/2020 22:28

@Blanketseeker2020 I’m so glad you said farting cos that’s it for me too 😳

doingmeheadin · 08/10/2020 22:30

Definitely the farting for me too! Grin Maybe that's why I'm not spending my days having extra sex with my husband...Blush

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 22:32

Basically most of the countries productivity has gone down the shitter.

I have only heard the opposite, productivity and motivation have increased. I am enjoying work now and get more done. Yes people are napping and having long baths but that’s because a lot us have all this extra time and we can multi task. No more wasted 2 hours on pointless meetings, no more 10 minute chit chats in the kitchen “ooh did you watch Bake Off?”

My afternoon snooze means I’m up quite late at night but that’s fine for me, I prefer working then. I love the stillness & quiet.
