Bad WFH habits

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 20:50

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

Weirdly though I'm still finding that I'm getting all my work done (and we are still busy).

I think it's because I can pack it all into one period. So in the office you kind of have to be working all the time. But at home, I can work my absolute tits off for a few hours and then wind it down for a bit afterwards.

Crinkle77 · 08/10/2020 21:58

Slouching on the couch with the laptop. Love it! I'm a naturally lazy person so WFH is ideal for me.

coronafiona · 08/10/2020 21:58

I have got SO fat! Trying to address it now but omg it's hard

Mercedes519 · 08/10/2020 21:58

Just realised I didn’t clean my teeth this morning Blush

I’ve figured out I can crochet and be on video at the same time. It looks like I’m taking notes.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 08/10/2020 21:59

McDonald's breakfast on Fridays.
American Horror Story inbetween jobs.
Working in my pyjamas

I'm just as efficient, if not more so. I'm less knackered with no commute, no distractions, etc. I have alerts on my phone for any emails so work gets done almost instantly. I can just watch telly inbetween jobs now Grin

RHOBHfan · 08/10/2020 21:59

God... my WFH experience is light years away from these descriptions...

VioletCharlotte · 08/10/2020 22:00

On a good day, I get up early and go swimming or for a walk before I start, but this is happening less and less!

The bad habits I'm developing include -

Getting up only 30 minutes before I'm due to start.
Daily croissant/ pain au chocolat with my coffee
Scrolling on my phone during meetings
Camera off and on mute, zoning out during dull meetings
Too much online shopping

Roominmyhouse · 08/10/2020 22:00

Getting up at the last minute (although not really a change!), not drying my hair and definitely no make up. Generally wearing leggings and a big jumper.

Watching awful daytime tv while working!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/10/2020 22:00

When we were doing lockdown learning provision, our whole county was told not to provide live lessons so I did have some of the above bad habits.

Lying in bed until 5 mins to 9, checking on my phone that all the assignments had rolled out properly to the kids. Having my phone with me in the garden to talk to my colleagues about the work we were setting or to field parental or pupil questions, then getting up and about. Otherwise chilling between emails and doing housework or sitting in the garden - I'm browner this year than ever before.

Sitting on my bum far more than I ever do at school. Having a nap over my lunch hour. Definitely another tab open on the browser while doing zoom management meetings.

And then not having a work-life balance in other areas. Afternoon spent being lazy meant an evening of giving work feedback and Sunday eve spent setting all the work online for the week ahead. Not great time management.

I'm so much happier now I'm back at work with the actual kids!

@Dawnlassie

Basically most of the countries productivity has gone down the shitter.
Mine's gone up, despite all the netflix
GnomeDePlume · 08/10/2020 22:02

Not moving for hours on end.

I have a kettle in my office and dont even need to stand up to make a cup of coffee. When I do eventually move my feet have swollen up.

This was worse when my assistant was furloughed and I was doing his job as well as my own. Then I would sit down to work at 7am and not get out of my chair until rushing to shovel some lunch into my face before getting back to my chair and carrying on.

minou123 · 08/10/2020 22:02

Wearing the same clothes for days until either:

  • I need to go out or
  • I start to smell a bit ripe

Which ever one comes first.
I do live alone Grin, but my washing has gone from twice a week, to once every 2 weeks.

I’m working harder than before, just with greasy hair and sometimes in my dressing gown so what does it matter?

Mrslafayette · 08/10/2020 22:04

Am I the only one who has to do the school run!! Have to be dressed and clean teeth although have come home afterwards and put PJ bottoms back on!

Keratinsmooth · 08/10/2020 22:06

Honestly, a lot of flicking the bean. It’s become as regular as making coffee.

Dawnlassie · 08/10/2020 22:06

Getting up only 30 minutes before I'm due to start

30 minutes? Try 30 seconds

Alarm clock goes off walk downstairs into the "office" to sign in. Walk straight back out again into the kitchen for breakfast and coffee.

MabelFurball · 08/10/2020 22:06

Not being able to find a gap for brushing my teeth as I am troughing solidly throughout the day. Shock.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 08/10/2020 22:07

Exactly this.

Actually still have a childminder despite working from home so that I can drop DD early and crack on, but really it's so I can wander round the corner in my pyjamas and drop her off, avoiding the school run entirely.

I do need to keep the space, and I want to keep paying my childminder, so not entirely selfish, but I do love the days when I don't have the long trek to school.

SpikeyBaby · 08/10/2020 22:08

Definitely not showering or brushing my teeth first thing (no point until I've finished my third cup of black coffee after all!)

Only wash my hair about once a week now but I'm not so sure that's really a bad habit, it's probably better for it.

Very rarely wear anything other than yoga pants and moth-eaten jumpers. And have started wearing slippers to drive in (hard-soled Mahabis, quite safe Grin)

But I have developed some good habits as well! Don't switch the tv on until DH gets home at 7pm. I do much more yoga because I'm not rushing out the house first thing or exhausted from the commute in the evenings. And I am not snacking at all during the day [polishes halo]

I still get all of my work done, I'm just in a dressing gown now 🤷🏽‍♀️

Instead of chatting to Sue from accountants for 10 mins in the kitchen when I make a brew, I run the hoover around.

This is bloody brilliant - I'm self employed so my meetings are generally quite interesting but the next networking that goes dull, I'm getting my crochet hooks out Grin

Exactly this.

How well I do my job (very well, actually) has fuck all to do with what I'm wearing or whether I've brushed my teeth fgs.

And a solid 25% of the Teams meetings I am forced to attend don't deserve my attention anyway

I love the idea that people aren’t working as hard because they haven’t showered or brushed their teeth! If anything I waste less time at home than I do in the office and I’m definitely getting the same amount of work if not more done.

Redcrayons · 08/10/2020 22:16

I had to stop pretending not to know how to get the video to work after tech support offered to do the thing when they take over your screen. Strangely thAt last reboot did the trick.

‘My WiFi has just dropped out’, is the new ‘the traffic was shocking this morning’.
