Bad WFH habits

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 20:50

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

Weirdly I’ve been washing my hair MORE- it’s long and thick so it takes forever to dry but I can let it air dry now and I hate it feeling greasy- which is stupid, cos I know the frequent washing will make it greasier.

Some days my productivity is awful, other days I can sit at my desk for 12 hours without moving except to boil the kettle.

I dont think I’ll ever get through an in-person meeting without eye rolling, face pulling and furious sweaty whatsapping again though 😂

CJsGoldfish · 08/10/2020 22:33

I've discovered that online jigsaw puzzles are a thing and are perfect for boring zoom meetings

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/10/2020 22:37

I can’t decide if I like my new slovenly but actually very productive ways or if I hate myself a bit Grin

I was always so groomed in the office.

I can’t wait for the hallmark channel and Christmas 24 to start churning out their shite Christmas films.

RonaRossi · 08/10/2020 22:38

I put a plaster over the webcam if I'm in the bath though because I worry that it'll accidentally turn on somehow and my colleagues will see

I have a box of stickers...even when I’m just working normally at my desk my webcam is constantly covered unless needed.

I’m not generally a paranoid person but there’s something about having the work webcam in my face at home all day that makes me very uncomfortable...I imagine accidentally signing into a zoom and being unaware whilst people watch me pick my nose and scratch my armpit 🙈😂

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/10/2020 22:40

Ooh! And how nice will it be to wfh from the sofa with the Christmas lights on and a constant supply of coffee and mince pies!!!

Jenasaurus · 08/10/2020 22:42

I had an awful experience once on teams. I turned off the camera and laid down on my side, propped on the pillow, the meeting was in full swing and I was listening but hadnt noticed the camera light had switched on (must have knocked it while getting comfy) suddenly my manager started laughing and said "Are you alright Jenasaurus, you look like your slipping further and furtther down" so everyone then looks before I have time to turn it off....I was mortified. one to watch out for though, these things do happen, luckily my manager has a good sense of humour!

spookmeout · 08/10/2020 22:44

Biscuits!
Also showering less often (2-3 days).
Living in leggings!

MakeAPeaCry · 08/10/2020 22:46

Oh my bloody god. Now I cannot wait for December.
LakieLady · 08/10/2020 22:48

It's not just you, @Blanketseeker2020.

I was doing a PIP form over the phone with a client the other day, and let rip an absolute snorter. I thought they might have heard, and then started to get the giggles.

So unprofessional.

And swearing. My swearing has reached epic proportions.

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 22:48

I’ve been covering the camera lens bit on all my electronics for years, after watching a movie where hackers can turn on the camera even if the computer is off. I’m lucky my work says we don’t have to switch on our cameras if we don’t want to.

I wake up at 6:50 and am answering my email by 7. At some point I make sure I have a clean shirt on though some days it's just a zipped hoodie with nothing under as I can't be bothered to get dressed.
I'm normally still working when DH gets home around 5
I haven't worn bras, glasses/contacts, shoes or makeup for months
I joke I'm reverting to Kiwi as I've worn only shorts or trackies since March
Strangely not snacking much but my consumption of tea is epic

BaublesAndGlitter · 08/10/2020 22:53

@temproasted

My worst habit (and I'm ashamed to admit this) (and also gutted that no-one else has said it yet) is getting out of bed so late that I think 'right get logged on then back up for shower, clean teeth etc' and then getting breakfast and stuck into work and then realising at lunchtime Blush that the teeth didn't get cleaned. Surely it can't just be me... can it?
Was confused reading that as I thought I'd posted and forgot! That has definitely happened here on more than a few occasions Blush

Other bad habits include lots of snacking, working from bed and having a frantic face wash/hair brush/clear up of snack evidence 5 mins before DH is due home

Schoolisback1973 · 08/10/2020 22:57
  • Get up to 30 mns before am due to work
  • Used to wear make-up everyday but haven't put any on
  • listen to music or radio in the background
  • Only go out once a week

I am going to try the nap at lunch time. That's a great idea

cinnamonwhirl · 08/10/2020 23:00

I'm getting up later and later. This morning I woke up at 8.30 am and only just made it to start work at 9.00am. When I went to the office I was up and out earlier - a drive to work and walk to the car park to get to work by 8.30 am at the latest . I'm feeling less motivated. I miss my old life. I didn't speak to anyone today.

Hotelhelp · 08/10/2020 23:02

I just can’t concentrate! I’d rather do anything but work but I’m so determined not to take the piss I rack up all the hours I still need to do and I’m owing them loads.

There’s no doubt an hour at home is 200 times more productive than an hour at work. I’m appalled by how little I appear to have done when we were in the office but now I’m flying through work even though I’m barely working!

Doryhunky · 08/10/2020 23:02

“The traffic between my bedroom and living room is often quite bad so I'm 5/10 mins late in the morning“ love this

Africa2go · 08/10/2020 23:05

Bad habits - not separating work & home. Desk is within reach of bed. Checking emails as soon as I wake up, working all day and checking emails before bed. No demarcation between work and home - working far longer than when we were in the office.

My other bad habit is being a bit pretentious in all honesty, trying to find the best background in the house for Zoom meetings - actually that just means avoiding my bedroom with the dirty washing showing Smile

Am actually really surprised at anyone saying sex with their H during the day. My H and I have been working from home since the start, no date for that changing and I could bury him under the decking most days - we're driving each other crazy!!

And as @Iamthewombat says, an occasional episode of Judge Judy whilst I eat Blush

Ideasplease322 · 08/10/2020 23:08

Has anyone run out of conversation?

My WhatsApp groups were pinning away at the start of this, weekly soon chats with friends.

It’s all faded away. No one has any news, no gossip. I think I left my personality in the office😂. With my winter coat🙄

thaegumathteth · 08/10/2020 23:08

God DH is wfh and he never leaves his office. Pisses me off tbh. Felt rubbish last week and asked him to drop kids at school and honestly I may as well have asked him to run a marathon.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 08/10/2020 23:13

Snacking.
Exercise classes that take me over my hour-long lunch break to cancel out said snacking.
Spending the morning in my pyjamas.
Boring meetings = I am Lord of Catan.

Bunnyfuller · 08/10/2020 23:16

I did an interview recently in grown up top and leopard print fluffy pj bottoms.

Splendid

stovetopespresso · 08/10/2020 23:17

revenge vaping during zoom meetings with a really health-driven team

TheDuchessofMalfy · 08/10/2020 23:23

Yours sound completely fine op!

I’ve been doing the napping too. I find I can concentrate much better if I’ve had a nap.

I’ve been snacking a lot too which isn’t great. Also I’ve been sitting badly as I don’t have the space for a dedicated desk.

Dogwalks2 · 08/10/2020 23:26

I love this thread, I’ve not styled my hair for months. Have become the queen of a scarf to cover PJs or gym gear.

Find work completely not compatabile to working from home, but everyone else does?

Think I am at work at least living in the truemanshow .
Can’t speak out About how poor we are all performing because we all need to keep our jobs, feel so false and as I’m
Nearing the end of my career so sad.

NameChange84 · 08/10/2020 23:27

Also smart top for video calls whilst wearing pjs on the bottom half grin
The snacks have played a big part in needing to wear pjs/joggers

Shock Are you actually me?!
