Bad WFH habits

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 20:50

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

Watching Netflix as I work. (For some reason I only do this on Fridays)

I've been washing my hair twice a week, if that.

Pretending my camera isn't working when I CBA getting dressed for yet another pointless 'catch up'

Eating too much - well, I've had to stop this as the weight gain is now beyond a joke.

Gawping out of the window and having a good nosey at neighbours coming and going.

MissMogwai · 10/10/2020 09:06

Forgot this one: telling my teen daughter and still furloughed DP that I have a meeting call so don't come in to the study. When really I'm binge watching Netflix and eating my secret snacks.

That sounds mean but for the love of God, leave me alone 😩😂

Oysterbabe · 10/10/2020 09:12

I've been watching my crazy neighbour out the window a lot. He puts food out for the birds but hates pigeons with a passion. About 10 times a day he comes running out of his house in his dressing gown shouting and swearing to chase pigeons away.

something2say · 10/10/2020 09:14

Loving the fact that so few of us are wearing bras anymore. Maybe its because I too have put on a stone, but I literally hate them now.

Kandinsko · 10/10/2020 09:18

Hehe this is the sort of stuff freelancers have been talking about for ages. Welcome people. Grin

Oysterbabe · 10/10/2020 09:19

What's slightly terrifying is I'm getting into loads of these bad habits because in mind I'm in some kind of temporary situation because of the pandemic and I'll get back to normal one day. But actually my employer has got rid of our office and this is just my life now. I need to sort my shit out 😂

TiddleTaddleTat · 10/10/2020 09:21

Some great ideas !!
Wish I could nod off in team meetings but we are on camera so can't be done. I usually write draft emails to send later or so work scheduling/diary management at the same time so I at least look like I'm paying attention.
I need some bad habits - I'm working just as much from home as before and if anything it's harder and I'm working more intensely.

wingardium8 · 10/10/2020 09:25

Mouse jiggler - omg how did I not know about these?? Ebay is delivering next week! (Tried to autocorrect to “mouse juggler”. That might also be fun Grin)

Yeah, self-confessed soap dodger here too, plus only realising I haven’t cleaned my teeth when heading off for school pick up. I’m grim, but I’ve converted DH now so we are grim together. The DC don’t wash either, except teen DD whose beauty and hygiene routine is awe-inspiring. She (rightly) is disgusted by us all.

We fart a lot too. Except teen DD. Again, disgusted Grin

This made me laugh: mobile.twitter.com/scarletchappell/status/1274449215222136836?lang=en

My home office overlooks next doors garden so I end up idly watching her hang out the washing or play with the cat. Male neighbour has thankfully stopped coming out in his dressing gown and sitting outside man spreading Confused

murakamilove · 10/10/2020 10:20

Nothing - I’m at work more, and have been throughout lockdown - pity us you lucky lunchtime shagging, permanent snacking, dirty haired people!!!! Grin

Ratatcat · 10/10/2020 10:22

Bertyb7 Aren’t you a bit scared of dropping your laptop in the bath?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 10/10/2020 11:24

Classic nomination you say? Oh well okay then, we'll probably get round to it after our third breakfast.

Lazysundayafternoons · 10/10/2020 11:54

@JeanClaudeVanDammit

A steady stream of online shopping deliveries.
I actually feel ashamed now when I hear the postman coming as I end up with nearly daily deliveries Blush (he will be getting a tip this xmas for sure!)
SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 10/10/2020 11:56

This is a great thread. I feel there needs to be an alternate 'good habits' thread too.

Not anything judgey, just little things people have found they've started slotting into their WFH days that make things easier

Lazysundayafternoons · 10/10/2020 12:30

@Jenasaurus

The horrible realisation that I fit only comfy non-work clothes the day before I am asked to go in to the office to collect my new work laptop!
I've been living in leggings since March and dont know how much weight I have put on 🤦‍♀️ so this week I ordered 2 pairs of nice jeans in the next size up so at least I will (hopefully) have something that fits me if i need to go to the office or for Christmas etc.
Plussizejumpsuit · 10/10/2020 12:36

I used to get up at 6 then get to work about 20 miles away for 8am (Northumberland) I'm now lucky if I get up at 8am.

Working on the sofa and in bed. Although I've just got a second monitor so my new work set up is drawing me to my desk.

Eating all the time!

As a general rule I have a shower first thing so I'm doing the minimum of being clean. But that's it grooming wise.

I also watch too much ticktock, use insta and mumsnet in my 'screen breaks' Grin

Plussizejumpsuit · 10/10/2020 12:37

Omg yes the deliveries! It's endless Blush

popsiclesforbreakfast · 10/10/2020 12:43

I am loving this thread! I have found my people.
Does anyone else find though that no matter who they speak to at work everyone says "oh I'm busier than ever" "I do more work from home" "I am doing X hours extra per week I just don't switch off"... I don't buy it in most cases!!! I accept in some occasions you can run over time but I think most people pretend they're busier when in fact they're not! Grin

Lazysundayafternoons · 10/10/2020 12:55

Amazon are the worst as everything comes separately boxed.

A few weeks ago I did my Santa shopping. I bought some items from smyths, some from littlewoods and the rest from Amazon.

The smyths items came in one big box, the littlewoods were split between 3 different boxes which wasnt too bad.... but Amazon had about 15 different boxes which arrived over a couple of days Blush. I was absolutely mortified when the postman arrived with boxes piled high, especially knowing he would be returning the following day with more.

Plussizejumpsuit · 10/10/2020 13:37

I've just been to the tip and it was mainly cardboard. Ver occasionally amazon will group things but very rarely. Also I hate the smell of the paper they use insude the boxes. It smells like vomit to me!

VicSynix · 10/10/2020 13:43

I've just started a new job and my particular bug-bear is online training. Half way through a three hour session last week, I realised my line manager was using the time to catch up on his emails (he was sending some of them to me) and then my camera somehow stopped working and I've never been happier. Though I had to keep reminding myself to talk just so they knew I was still there.

hollyandkit · 10/10/2020 14:05

Listening to Popmaster everyday on Radio 2 and shouting abuse at the people who get low scores (except when I get a low score too, then it's because the questions are ridiculously hard that day, obvs)

Figmentofimagination · 10/10/2020 14:10

I'm so excited. My Disney store order that I placed on Monday whilst in a meeting is arriving today. As well as Christmas presents it includes another mug for me. You can never have too many mugs when working at home. And no fear of anyone at work using it.

Auldspinster · 10/10/2020 14:22

I'm back in an office and have a 45min commute each way. Am missing lunchtime naps and commuting from the sofa to my desk.

Lazysundayafternoons · 10/10/2020 14:23

My recycling bin cant cope with the boxes - my ds birthday in Sept followed by my Christmas shopping sent it over the edge.

O Skype registers you as 'do not disturb' when on a call. We have twice daily team calls so if I'm not rushed off my feet I'll sit outside for the call and get some fresh air and a break from the screen.
